CZW returned to the ECW Arena last night before a crowd of 300 in one of its two lead-up shows to Cage of Death 8. The show was a mixed bag, with some really good, and some well, not as really good.

  • The new tag team of Brodie Lee/Cheech defeated the Olsen Twins and a Canadian team whose name name I couldn't make out.

  • Sabian defeated Cloudy with a Double Stomp. Sabian with his "Black Jesus" got lots of hilarity at various spoints during the match, including "baptizing" Cloudy and two different fans at one point.

  • Jon Dahmer/Danny Demanto defeated CJ O'Doyle/Ryan McBride, which turned out to be one of the more entertaining matches of the night. CJ evidently ticked off someone, as he appeared to get buried, with Demanto cut a 10 minute promo on him.

Nick "Nicky Benz" Berk came out with the 3 CZW students from last month and did a REALLY long promo. Note to Nick: you're a decent wrestler. The Nicky Benz gimmick (yes, Nick, we know the name is a play on a porn actress's name) was funny once upon a time, but it's played out. Stick to wrestling, will you, please?

  • Ruckus defeated Human Tornado in a ladder match. These two didn't have one of their better matches, and the match itself started after a really long series of promos that could easily have been done in half the time. Tornado climbed the ladder to get the belts, but the referee was, um....busy getting a faceful of Chrissy Rivera's stuff. BLKOUT then jumped Human Tornado, with Ruckus grabbed the belts and won. Going to intermission, all assembled (with some fans joining the fun) did a Soul Train dance to Thriller.

It probably didn't help the reaction to this match among some fans when the match result was pretty much given away, given that it got out from fans with cell phones that Human Tornado had been named to next month's ECWA Super 8 lineup (with Jerry Lynn, Tornado, and M-Dogg being the only names). The Super 8 runs head-to-head with CZW next month, thus...

  • Niles Young and Derek Frazier (with Noel Harlow) defeated Team AnDrew with a rollup to win the CZW Tag Team Titles. Young and Harlow got a ton of abuse (think X-Pac heat) from the crowd. Security tried to kill some of the fun, keeping certain fans from throwing string cheese into the ring for Harlow (get it...cheese...rat?). Note to CZW: if you're going to book an unpopular team as heel champions, let people have their fun and let your heel champions get their heat. It worked for Jimmy Rave in Ring of Honor with the toilet paper.

  • Sabian defeated Danny Havoc to win the CZW Junior Heavyweight Title with a predictable finish, when Havoc had the match won, but Maven Bentley's MBA came out and destroyed him and put Sabian on top. MBA beat down Havoc, including a sickening bumb where Havoc was tied down to a stretcher and thrown over into a construction sign propped up on two chairs. Necrobutcher and Toby Klein made the save and segued into the next match.

  • DJ Hyde/Brain Damage defeated Necrobutcher and Toby Klein in your bloodfest of the night, as Brain Damage looked like the remains of a Killadelphia weekend shotgun victim. After all the blood, gore and general violence, the match was won with a rollup.

  • In what seemed like weird show formatting/placement (although logical given the apparent choosing of the sides for Cage of Death, post-main event), Naptown Dragons over Drake Younger/JC Bailey (who got a great pop for his return) with...another rollup, but with the old school touch of powder in the eyes. The match would have been fine anywhere else on the card, but following a hardcore match, it had a difficult time getting real crowd reaction. With the post-match, though, I could understand the scheduling on the card.

Team MBA then cleaned house (see a pattern here yet, readers?) until Necrobutcher and Toby Klein made the save with Lobo doing an "us against them" promo. This match appeared to set up the main event for Cage of Death with Team Lobo (Necrobutcher/Toby Klein/Drake Younger/JC Bailey vs. Brodie Lee/Brain Damage/DJ/Hyde/Scotty Vortekz at Cage of Death.

CZW returns to the ECW Arena for the go-home show before Cage of Death on November 10.
