Pro's from the Palace (#209) - Does the WWE REALLY need Cyber Sunday?

When I read a while back that WWE took out December to Dismember and New Year's Revolution from its pay per view schedule, I wasn't at all surprised. What I am surprised about, and kind of disappointed about, is that it didn't take out Cyber Sunday. When push comes to shove, ladies and gentlemen, I think all of us, as educated wrestling fans, know already what's going to be the stipulations and choices made for this pay per view, and doesn't that fact pretty much kill the entire point of this gimmick? I mean, instead of doing the proper slow burn to matches for Survivor Series, one of the supposed major pay per views, we're forced this one down our throats with little to no surprises in store. At least, from my point of view.

I know I've said I'm the one who loves the gimmick match and everything, but this one is just plain silly in its predictability. Let me try and illustrate.

Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay in either a stretcher match, a (insert Finlay's weapon here) on a pole match, or a no disqualification match

First off, if you think I can spell whatever it is Finlay takes to the ring, well, then, you oughta enter the national spelling bee, because I can't do it no chance in hell. Second, who else thinks this pole match is a virtual lock. I do. And it's sad, because I wouldn't mind seeing Finlay and Rey battle in a stretcher match and see if Rey can go hardcore the way Finlay can. But, its a virtual lock because of the issues between the two that the weapon on a pole match is going to be the stip, and from there, it's pretty much basic, both will get their shots, and whoever gets the last shot wins. No DQ is so damn obvious and simple that it'd never be the match for a PPV like this. You would see no dq matches almost weekly, if they could do it without people getting killed. Weapon matches are definitely PPV matches, which means its either the stretcher or the pole match. And I don't think WWE is dumb enough to put Mysterio in a stretcher match with Finlay, although frankly, I'd love to see it.

MVP vs. Matt Hardy in either a boxing match, a wrestling match, or an MMA match

Ok, if anyone in their right mind can tell me why these two would go in an MMA match, email me. I want to see that reasoning. Because frankly, I can't see WWE even DIVING toe first in to that field of battle, because it'd be ridiculed beyond belief by the smarks and the MMA guys. Which leaves boxing or wrestling. Boxing? Done and done. Nobody wants to see it again. WWE figured to do the stips here to try and keep this feud hot, and eventually give Hardy a shot at the US title. This one is the most predictable out of all the stips, because I don't see WWE repeating a boxing match here, an MMA match is NEVER going to happen, and it's about time that these two go at it for the US title, and if this is the beginning to that road finally being travelled, well, so be it.

Triple H vs. Umaga in either a street fight, a first blood match, or a steel cage match

Here we can use economics. Putting up a cage and not having it used is ridiculous and silly. You can still get the brutality out of these two monsters in a street fight, and not have to worry about building a cage. Yeah, it may be a miniscule amount in the eyes of WWE, but it makes sense. Also, seeing the Game's article on .com about wanting a street fight, if that doesn't prove to the average joe that the stip has already been decided, well, I challenge you to tell me otherwise.

CM Punk vs. Big Daddy V, The Miz, or John Morrison for the ECW Championship

Ok, here we can use the process of elimination. Miz has shown ZERO reason for being involved in the ECW title chase, Big Daddy V, although definitely deserving, has a program beginning with Kane, and I think somewhere that's going to find a way to get on to the card, and Morrison has not had a rematch for the title, which means frankly, Morrison is due. It scares me to death to say this, but I think Morrison is going to win this one, it's a little less predictable with V in the mix, but Morrison is due for the rematch, and like previous reports said, and I hope they're wrong, Morrison is due to WIN BACK the title once he returned from suspension. I'm not going to say that's what I want to see, because it's not, and this isn't a pick column, but this one is almost as predictable as the others.

Batista vs. the Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship with the ref either being JBL, Stone Cold, or Mick Foley

Originally, I thought this was a lock to be Austin to help promote the Condemned on DVD, and perhaps begin this pseudo-program with Santino Marella trying to get Marella over. But last week's Smackdown has put some doubt in my mind, and the possibility of JBL coming out of retirement for whatever reason now looms. It would disgust me to no end because JBL has become probably the best color man in the business, and I don't want to see him back in the ring, but the recent spots he has been taking leads me to believe he may be returning to active competition. The response he made from last week, and the subsequent response from Batista could lead me to believe that there's a program in the near future between the two. With Austin nowhere in sight recently, it's more possible now than ever. I would say for certain this is the most unpredictable out of all the votes, but, the thing that bothers me out of this whole deal is, there's no shot in hell of it being Mick Foley, and that's just sad. Why bring people's names in to the mix if there's no chance in hell they're going to be used?

Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy, Ken Kennedy, or Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship

Um, hello? Obvious choice here? This one has the writing on the wall so bad it's pathetic. Kennedy and Hardy have had the slow burn to a program for months now, and the fact that Michaels and Orton have unfininished business is just so damn prevalent here it's not even funny. Whether or not HBK wins the title I won't say here, but there's no way, and I mean no way in hell that Kennedy or Jeff are getting this shot. If they do, I swear, I'll be stunned.

Here's the deal, peoples. You drop me a line and debate these reasonings, and whether or not you'd like to see Cyber Sunday continue or dropped. Depending on response, I'll either print them on the blog, or set up a whole new column with them.

Personally, this PPV has all the markings of garbage, and I think it oughta be scrapped. I'd rather see the slow burn to Survivor Series, and hit a home run out of there, but we have to continue making money while the wrestlers continue dropping like flies due to an inhuman schedule.

Oops, sorry, I'll step down off my soap box now.
