Second report of Friday Night Smackdown tapings - Long Island
On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 1:20 AM EST The Fonz sent this report in from the Smackdown/ECW tapings in Long Island, NY on Tuesday:
I just got back from the Halloween eve Smackdown/ECW tapings a few moments ago. The crowd were mostly very hot tonight during the first two hours of Smackdown, but after a hell of a main event the arena was basically gassed out and dead for ECW.
-The night started out with Batista coming out to a massive ovation. The Animal spoke briefly about defending his championship at Cyber Sunday against the Undertaker, and was soon interrupted by the dead man himself. Taker was bat shit over all night, and his first appearance was near deafening.
The two giants have a momentary stare down before a rematch is proposed by The Undertaker, Batista doesn’t hesitant to accept. Then Taker drops the bombshell of the night. Taker/Tisa V is to take place within the Hell in A Cell.
Just after the major announcement Mark Henry and Khali come out to the stage and we're informed of the night's main event. Khali & Henry vs Batista & Undertaker.
-In the first bout of the night Festus defeats Domino. Nothing really notable here except the surprisingly strong crowd reaction for Jesse & Festus.
-Next up is Rey Mysterio taking on Jamie Noble. Before things get underway Finlay makes his way out to the ring and takes a seat at ringside. Nice little match up here, Rey's high flying arsenal really pumped up the crowd and after reversing a tiger bomb to get the win Finlay confronts the victorious Mysterio challenging him to a match next week.
-Next up is a Cyber Sunday rematch between MVP and "The Big Red Machine" Kane. Unfortunately the crowd were DEAD during the entire first half of this match, but eventually they came back hot when the duo began to take it home.
Near the end Big Daddy V emerges from the tunnel making a B-Line to the ring which almost distracts Kane enough for MVP to squeak out a cheap win, but Kane would not be denied and quickly recaptured control of the bout and slammed MVP with a thunderous chokeslam for the win. After the match DBV takes out Kane with a Samoan drop.
-Quick video hyping CM Punk to make an appearance on Smackdown next week. The crowd was wild for this.
-Another big shock as Mick Foley comes out to the ring to a great reaction. Next out is Coach and we're set for a Foley/Coach match when we suddenly find out Hornswoggle is to be the special guest referee.
Great comedy break here that the crowd totally ate up. Foley was really over, but surprisingly Hornswoggle's reaction was noticeably one of the strongest of the entire night. After a few double teams on Coach Foley pins him after a "Tadpole Splash" from the little bastard.
-Chuck Paulumbo defeats Kenny Dykstra. Nothing worth mentioning here.
-Main event time, and as all four men come out to the ring the roof is nearly blown off the arena. Very fun match here with the audience really adding a ton of excitement.
In the end Batista makes a hot tag to Taker who cleans house for a few minutes. With The Animal and The Dead Man both in firm control they both go for their finishers when JBL suddenly runs into the ring and takes both men out with a low blow and clothesline from hell. Very loud mixed reaction for JBL here, mostly heat but a noticeable amount of people popped for him too.
With the match ending on a DQ Khali and Henry continue to put a beating on their two opponents and Smackdown draws to a close with Taker in the "Khali Vise Grip" and Batista in the bear hug.
