Pro's from the Palace (#218) - Picks & thoughts for TNA Turning Point PPV
On Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 11:54 PM EST Truth be told, I feel rotten as hell, but I am due for this, so let's try and be as positive as I can to do the last PPV pick column of the year for TNA. It's my attempt to stay over .500 with my record, currently at 44 wins, and 44 losses going in to Turning Point. Let's get to work.
ANGELINA LOVE & VELVET SKY Angel Williams & Talia Madison vs. ODB & ROXXI LAVEAUX
Thrilled as can be that Talia (I Will NOT CALL her Velvet) has a PPV match. Although I haven't had the pleasure of seeing her live, I have followed her career through the 'net, and I believe she can go with the best of them. I am interested to see how Talia and ODB brawl, because I think it will be a brawl. Angel Williams, the only time I saw her was when she was smothered by Awesome Kong, and that's just not fair, because two of Williams doesn't even match up to Kong's size. The best wrestler in this group is Roxxi Laveaux, and if she would be allowed to dump the dumb voodoo queen outfit, this match would be nothing short of something I'd be interested to watch from bell to bell. I would think this match would outdo almost anything put out there by the WWE women's division. All four women need pushes. Question is, who gets it, and who gets knocked by down the ladder, because personally, nobody's safe in this type of match. They all need the push from a win. It screams no contest, but I think we will have a winner. As much as I would like to pick Talia, I can't. Roxxi's too good, and ODB's too damn tough.
WINNERS: ODB & Roxxi Laveaux
BOOKER T. & KAZ vs. ROBERT ROODE & CHRISTIAN CAGE
Can you smell the irony here? Can you smell what the Book is cookin'? Cause right now, he ain't cookin' with gas.
Booker T goes from main eventing Summerslam in the return match of Triple H to being in a midcard tag team joke with a WWE castoff before he even got off the ground against a wanna be Ted DiBiase/JBL clone, and the 2 time former NWA World Champion. Forgive me for saying so, but where's the upwards push for Booker with his new digs? This sure as hell ain't it.
Anyway, to the nuts and bolts of this match, I don't think that Roode & Cage have a shot only because it's Booker's first PPV match. If Booker had been on site for some time, and they booked this, I would pick Roode & Cage 9 times out of 10. Unfortunately, this is time #10. Booker and Kaz pick up the win. Kaz has to be getting a main event push, and there's no way a debuting competitor loses.
WINNERS: Booker T. & Kaz
ERIC YOUNG vs. Cowboy JAMES STORM
I don't like either of these two talents gimmicks. However, they are both talented combatants, and I think they will provide some good entertainment for their match. However, picking this match is easy. Young losing would not damage his stature within the company. Storm losing would damage his stature. Simple response to the rest of this.
WINNER: James Storm
TNA Women's Championship
GAIL KIM vs. AWESOME KONG
David vs. Goliath, female form. This, on paper, should be a squash for Kong. But Kim is an accomplished combatant, and will make this competitive. I think Kim will eventually lose the title to Kong, but maybe not here. I would suspect they'd try and lengthen this, as currently, Kong and Kim are TNA's most proven female talents. For now, I'll say Kim defends the belt, but she's gonna hurt bad for it.
WINNER: Gail KIm
Match of 10,0000 Tacks
RHINO & ABYSS vs. BLACK REIGN & RELLIK
I don't know how to cmment on this match. I am not sure of the rules, no. 1, and no.2 I have an idea about these types of matches within TNA, but if I go in to it, I am going to sound like a contradicting idiot. So, let's just pick the match. Rellik has been already put in midcard status with a loss out of the gate in TNA, and Black Reign's push has seemingly stalled, for all intensive purposes. Maybe I'm wrong, but what else has Reign done since his initial win over Chris Harris? I think Abyss and Rhino win this. And truth be told, it's just a full blown guess. No theory to try and back it up.
WINNERS: Abyss & Rhino
Six Man Tag Team Tables Match
TEAM 3D & JOHNNY DEVINE vs. ALEX SHELLEY, CHRIS SABIN & JAY LETHAL
I don't have an opinion here. 3D vs. the Machine guns in any type of match intrigues me. I don't know the reason for adding Devine and Lethal to the match, unless they're trying to set up a challenger for Jay Lethal's X Division title. I know 3D took the title hostage, I don't know if it has been returned, and I suspect if it hasn't, it will be following this match. Part of me thinks 3D wins the match due to politics, but I am going to pick with my heart, and hope the Machine Guns & Lethal win the match, because they beating Team 3D and anyone is a major win in their pockets.
WINNERS: Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, & Jay Lethal
Main Event
SAMOA JOE, SCOTT HALL & KEVIN NASH vs. KURT ANGLE, TOMKO & AJ STYLES
I really think this match is ridiculous. Nash can't move, I don't know how much Hall has left, Tomko's status is uinknown after going through "emergency surgery" as reported by New Japan. It leaves Joe vs. Angle and AJ. I HAVE to believe there's something here more than meets the eye, because on paper, Hall, Nash, and Joe should get killed. However, I doubt it. I haven't a clue what TNA's plans are after this match, and I don't know what would happen, win lose or draw for either side. With that being said, I am going to pick the Outsiders and Joe for ro other reason that we cannot confirm that a member of the Angle Alliance is even going to compete.
Based solely on that piece of info, I'll make my pick.
WINNERS: Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash, & Scott Hall

Thanks for reading. I tried my best with this one. It was a struggle.
