talkIMPACTradio sent this recap in:
J.J Dillon joined one of the fastest rising internet radio shows out there today, talkIMPACTradio, in what was a very interesting and educational interview.
Indy and WhoBetta were there, with SBR sitting in for Coolkdog.
The interview kicked off with Indy asking J.J how did the wrestling bug bite him, J.J enlightened by telling us that it was over 50 years ago. He originally came across wrestling by flipping through the television dial and got hooked on pro wrestling, Eventually he started going to the shows and got to the point where he was bringing back the ring jackets, One night there was cold weather but enough wrestlers had made it to still do the show. The referees of the commission had failed to make it, so someone asked J.J if he could do it and he happily obliged. The snowball slowly ran down the mountain and became the monster that was his passion for wrestling.
Dillon talks about his stint in WWE as a referee and then talked about how he and McMahon had a difference of beliefs so Dillon left. That's when he went to WCW.
Dillon talks about how the Horseman started as a completely random TV Segment where all the champions were put behind the mic to hype up their upcoming matches. Arn said that the fans were looking at the Four Horseman of Wrestling and it took off from there.
J.J tackled a few more questions until Indy started taking phone calls from listeners.
J.J said he doesn't like the current state of wrestling at all. The high risks of everyday wrestling are causing too many injuries. J.J said their are more injuries today then back when he wrestled, which sometimes was 7 days a week.
J.J also was asked about the Benoit saga and he commented briefly on it and agree'd it was tragic.
One caller quoted Wikipedia stating that on J.J Dillon's profile, it notes that he was a major part in bringing Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera into WCW. Dillon admitted that to be true and told the story of how he and Vince Russo had a meeting that was under wraps, He said at the time Russo had all the right answers and was excited to bring him in.
Dillon then quickly confessed that what Vince Russo was doing in WCW was horrible. Run ins in every match, Matches with no endings, All story.. J.J said he told Russo that he needs to pull back, slow it down. He said Russo pretty much said that it was either his way or the highway.
A few more calls were knocked out..
One caller asked J.J if the WWE called him and asked him to come back for Flair's comeback storyline would he. J.J says he seriously doubts WWE would ever call him. He speaks highly of Flair, but doesn't know what he'd say. J.J mentioned the last involvement he had with WWE for the production of the WWE Four Horseman DVD. He speaks highly of the DVD.
Indy asked J.J to share some road stories about his favorite ribs. J.J shared two funny ribs that brought laughter to the crew.
J.J was asked about his time in ROH and J.J said it was pleasant. He was amazed at the fact that the ROH audience was split in half, One half loved the old school wrestling and the other loved the modern aspects. He had kind words for ROH.
Indy then asked about his involvement in the early days of TNA. J.J told us how he and Jerry Jarrett go way back and Jerry, favoring J.J, asked him to come to TNA. J.J obliged despite being really reluctant seeing how Vince Russo was there. J.J said he did about 2 shows and realized it was the same Russo stuff that killed WCW, so he stepped away from it.
J.J is currently in rehabilitation from a total knee replacement. He plugs his book a few times in the show as do the TI hosts slating that few people have the experiene that J.J Dillon does. He's been a wrestler, referee, manager, office worker-- anything and everything. And someone with such involvement in the industry must have an unbelievable book.
J.J also mentions the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in New York and says he'll be at the next induction in May.
Indy asked if the WWE asked him to be apart of their Hall of Fame would he, J.J said he doesn't know what he'd say.
There was alot more to the interview, J.J spoke real intelligently and was a definite class act.
