Welcome to the Armpit wrestling quiz for the week of January 7, 2008. We took the last two weeks of for the holidays, and I hope you all have a great new year. 2008 promises a lot of excitement whether you're a wrestling fan or MMA fan.

Part of that excitement is the annual Royal Rumble. Lots of you reading this, like myself, have been watching this event since the very first one. For those of you who haven't, and for those of you who have and want to test your memory, we're going to quiz you all month on Royal Rumbles of the past.

Here now is "Remembering the Rumbles - Part 1." Let's do it.

Answers from last time:

-At Starrcade ’95, Jushin Liger wrestled Chris Benoit.

-At Starrcade ’96, Akira Hokuto was crowned the first WCW women’s champion.

-Bret Hart referee’d the Zbysko-Bischoff match at Starrcade ’97.

-At Starrcade ’98, Scott Hall used a taser on Bill Godberg, leading to Kevin Nash getting the win.

-Bret Hart would like to forget Starrcade ’99, because it was a stiff kick to the head by Goldberg that began Hart’s downward spiral, which ended up with Hart suffering a stroke. It wasn’t the kick itself that did it, but Bret came back too soon and took lots of blows to the head in matches in early 2000, and later he suffered a bad fall on his bike. Given what he has been through, Bret has made a remarkable recovery.

-Of the listed valets, the only one not to work Starrcade ’00 was the late Sherri Martel.

Here are this week's questions. Remember, the new rules are that you no longer need to submit your questions, and no winners will be declared. We're just doing this for fun and to honor the forgotten world of wrestling history.

1. Rumble '88 was won by Jim Duggan, as you all saw in the clips on Raw last week. Behind the scenes, things were more interesting. This Rumble didn't air on PPV, but for free on the USA network. A gesture of good will by the WWF? Hardly. Rumble '88 was put on the air for free to combat what NWA PPV that was airing the same night?

2. Rumble '89 was typical late 80s WWF fare. Slow, prodding, and very well booked. The Ultimate Warrior and Rick Rude went head to head that night, but not in a wrestling match. What was it, and how did it end?

3. In a sad stat, seven of the 30 participants in Rumble '90 are no longer with us today. Name 5 of them.

4. Rumble '91 was a great show. To start things off, the Rockers had a hot match with Pat Tanaka and Kato. Later, Sgt. Slaughter won the WWF title by defeating the Ultimate Warrior in a very well booked match. Savage helped Slaughter win the belt when he hit the Warrior with what?

5. A favorite Rumble of many is the one from 1992, which of course featured the one-man show of Ric Flair. Bobby Heenan was also tremendously entertaining as the color commentator that night, since he was managing Flair at the time. The post-match promo by Flair is also an all-time classic. Sid Justice and Hogan had a war of words leading toward the finish, and to the surprise of many, the crowd was totally behind Sid. Hogan was obviously hurt by the boos from the crowd in Albany. But the following Saturday on WWF Superstars, history was changed. What did the WWF do to the crowd noise when they replayed that clip of Sid and Hogan arguing?

Answers will be posted next week.
