NOTES

We received news this morning that Bob Rogers, a fan of more than fifty years, passed away early this morning. He had been attending Southern Extreme Championship Wrestling cards in the west Georgia area of late, but had been hospitalized. On December 30, SECW held a card to help with medical costs. Personally, I never met Bob, but there is little doubt he witnessed quite a bit of history dating back to the 1950s. I sure would have liked to have picked his brain a bit for some of his memories. On behalf of everyone at GWH, the Rogers family has our most sincere condolences. (Rich Tate)

Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas’ band, the Luchagors, will be playing at the Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta, GA, on February 1. Check your local directories or the band’s site for more info. (Rich Tate)

GWH wishes a happy birthday to Giant Gonzales, who turns 42 today.

The original Dutch Mantell died on this day in 1941, when cancer claimed him at 59.

Giant Baba also succumbed to cancer nine years ago today. He was 61.

NOSTALGIA

1933: Jack Zarnas defeated Ralph DeLeon two falls to one in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber. Jim Clinstock was scheduled to wrestle Whitey Hewitt, but Clinstock failed to appear, prompting Atlanta City Boxing Commission Chairman John A. White to suspend Clinstock indefinitely. As a result, Weber asked that anyone bringing a ticket stub from this card would be admitted into the card on February 7, 1933. Of course, this is pro wrestling. Stay tuned.

1950: Red Dugan defeated Maurice Roberre in the main event in Dalton for promoter Fred Ward. Ward was not yet affiliated with Georgia Championship Wrestling. Nell Stewart & Cora Combs defeated Mae Young & Eva Lee in the semi-main event. It is unclear as to what venue was the site of this card.

1970: Georgia Television Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Joe Scarpa wrestled to a draw at the WQXI Studios in Atlanta for the “Atlanta TV Wrestling" television program hosted by Ed Capral. It was reported that the Assassins had purchased the contract of Paul DeMarco from Homer O’Dell, and were willing to allow DeMarco out of the contract and become a free agent if he agreed to pay them a fee to do so.

1973: Bob Armstrong defeated Hiro Matsuda to win the Columbus Heavyweight Title at the Columbus Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. PWS sent this in:

Pro Wrestling Syndicate kicks off 2008 with their Majestic Mayhem live pro wrestling event on Saturday night March 22 at The Yonkers PAL building on 127 North Broadway in Yonkers, New York with a 7:30pm bell time. Tickets are currently on sale at http://www.ProWrestlingSyndicate.com ranging from $10-25.

Fans in attendance will get to witness a one on one bout between two former multi time ECW Champions who also became stars in the WWE, as The Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death Defying Sabu collides with the Extreme Hardcore Icon, The Sandman!

If that's not enough classic nostalgia, Majestic Mayhem will also feature a battle of Wrestling Legends as former WWE superstars Tito Santana and "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala square off in singles action!

Plus, just announced - a women's matchup as TNA Knockout Angelina Love locks up with East Coast standout Alexa Thatcher!

Despite these three killer matches, a primary focus of this March 22 event is The Majestic Twelve Tournament. This tournament features 12 of the top indy wrestlers in the western hemisphere competing to be crowned the first ever Pro Wrestling Syndicate Champion. The structure of this tournament is a fresh concept in which combatants will compete round by round with each round being a different style of match. This is unlike most tournaments which feature 8 wrestlers and single match rounds. Full details of the tournament's layout as well as the brackets have not yet been released, however eleven of the twelve combatants competing for PWS gold has been announced.

The Majestic Twelve Tournament features arguably Canada's top two stars Teddy Hart and Kenny Omega, whom were both contracted by the WWE this past year. Ring Of Honor standouts "M-Dogg 20" Matt Cross, the 630 sensation Jack Evans, Davey Richards, and Blkout member Ruckus as seen on MTV's Wrestling Society X have also been chosen. Philadelphia wrestling standouts Devon Moore and the "International Superstar" Trent Acid are also on board. Rounding out The Majestic 12 are "The Cold Hearted Player" Danny Demanto, former WWE developmental standout "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews, arguably the top hardcore wrestler in the country, the PWS Commissioner, Necro Butcher, and a mystery entrant! No details have come to light just yet as to who this mystery entrant will be.

Plus fans in attendance will have the opportunity to meet some very special guests as Wrestling Legends Captain Lou Albano and Ox Baker will be in the house to sign autographs and take photographs with fans. Former WWE Hearthrob Romeo Roselli and former ECW+TNA star Julio Dinero are also confirmed to make an appearance at the event. A handful of PWS stars including The Sandman, Tito Santana, Kamala, and Danny Demanto will also be on hand to sign autographs for fans during intermission at the event.

And for everyone that likes good looking women and/or free stuff; Majestic Mayhem will mark the debut of The Syndicate Girls!

Tickets for this event can be purchased directly at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/26657 or charge by phone by calling 1-800-838-3006. Limited front row seats remain for just $25, floor seats (rows 2-10) are on sale for $20, and General Admission tickets (bleachers or standing room) are available for just ten bucks.

For fans who want to catch up on past Pro Wrestling Syndicate action, dvd's of past events are currently available in the Merchandise section of www.ProWrestlingSyndicate.com

PWS #1 REVELATION - $8 - featuring Samoa Joe, Trent Acid, Human Tornado, Justin Credible, Koko B Ware, Abyss, Alex Shelley, and more.

PWS #2 BLITZKRIEG - $8 - featuring Sabu, Black Machismo, Lanny Poffo, Low Ki, Commissioner Necro Butcher, Justin Credible, Crowbar, Kenny Omega, and more.

and coming soon to dvd will be PWS #3 FIRESTORM - a double dvd release featuring Teddy Hart, Sabu, Ruckus, Jay Lethal, Human Tornado, Dr Death Steve Williams, Commissioner Necro Butcher, Kenny Omega, Trent Acid, Justin Credible, Rocksha 337, Devon Moore, Danny Demanto, Davey Richards, Drake Younger, and lots more

Pro Wrestling Syndicate will also be unleashing a FREE internet tv show next month.

Stay tuned for more and keep up with http://www.ProWrestlingSyndicate.com and http://www.Myspace.com/ProWrestlingSyndicate for the latest in all things PWS.
