GEORGIA WRESTLING NEWS, NOTES, AND NOSTALGIA: 04/04/2008
NEWS
On April 5 at 11:00 AM ET, Peach State Pandemonium will air a special two-hour episode in honor of Gary Hart. Crimson Mask and I will host this episode with the legendary Hart, whose impact on the business is often overlooked. Despite being perhaps the most compelling manager of his era, he was very instrumental behind the scenes not only in Georgia, but also Florida, Texas, and many other areas during his career. Bill Watts, Jack Brisco, Bill Irwin, James Beard, Skandor Akbar, George Steele, Abdullah the Butcher, Michael Hayes, and Kevin Sullivan are scheduled to appear. In conjunction with K&S Wrestlefest, there will be a DVD giveaway of a Q&A featuring Hart, Irwin, and Akbar, done on March 15, one day before Gary’s passing. (Rich Tate)
The House of Representative voted down SB 413, the bill designed to revamp regulation of pro wrestling in Georgia and remove World Wrestling Entertainment's exemption from regulation, by a vote of 105-57 during the final session of this year's General Assembly. The defeat places regulation of Georgia pro wrestling back in the hands of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. In November 2007, the GAEC attempted to implement strict new rules and encounted stiff opposition from independent promoters and wrestlers across the state. In February, the Commission announced a hold on further action pending the outcome of SB 413. (Larry Goodman)
Independent Wrestling Network will debut in Columbus, GA, tonight at the Fishcrow Arena, formerly the GCW Arena. The big surprise is an advertised match featuring Jason Cross versus A.J. Steele. Cross has been away from wrestling since Dropkick Pro shut down in Macon. Also advertised: Mr. Hughes versus Rob Adonis, the Wrestler versus Scottie Blaze, the Southside Trash versus Frankie Valentine & Adrian Hawkins, and "The Shooter" Vordell Walker versus Austin Creed. (Larry Goodman)

Boxer Versus Wrestler Match To Headline Pro Wrestling Event In New Rochelle, NY
The battle lines have been drawn and the participants in the “Boxer vs. Wrestler” match are set. Professional wrestler “Sweet ‘n’ Sour” Larry Sweeney’s open contract to any professional athlete was signed by former professional boxer, Larry Barnes of Mount Vernon (44-3-0, 17 knockout’s) for the New York State Wrestling Federation’s (NYSWF) return on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in New Rochelle, NY at New Rochelle High School.
Sweeney has made it known amongst his contemporaries in the wrestling industry that he expects to slow down Barnes and take him off his feet to his advantage thus turning the match into a one sided wrestling tutorial.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I expect a former boxer to sign the contract,” said Sweeney, who currently performs for Ring of Honor Wrestling. “I am just going to have to show Barnes that he is walking into my ring on April 5. If he had any respect for the wrestling business, he’d buy a ticket and sit in the front row. He’s making a huge mistake stepping into a wrestling ring with me.”
Barnes is content in knocking out Sweeney early on, but is preparing for the match should Sweeney decide to take the contest to the ground.
“If I have to body slam Mr. Sweeney than that’s what I’ll do, but I’m going for a knockout,” said Barnes, who boxed against the likes of Felix Trinidad Jr. during his boxing career.
In addition to that spectacular match, Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) Wrestling Superstars, Team 3D will showcase their tag-team style. Team 3D is comprised of Brother Devon & Brother Ray and were formerly known as the Dudley Boyz when they wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Collectively, the tandem are 20-time former World Tag Team Champions for the WWE, TNA, ECW and other wrestling promotions throughout the word.
Team 3D’s main event match versus Monsta Mack & Havok will serve as a homecoming for Brother Devon, who played varsity football at New Rochelle High School before joining the ranks of professional wrestling.
Former New Rochelle City Councilman and current President of New Rochelle’s Youth Tackle League, Joe Fosina has been signed to serve as the special guest referee for the ladies match scheduled pitting Daizee Haze vs. Alexa Thatcher for April 5.
This wrestling spectacular is being sponsored locally by LA Boxing’s locations in Mamaroneck, NY and Secaucus, NJ.
Ticket information for the NYSWF Professional Wrestling is available at http://www.nyswfwrestling.com, http://www.myspace.com/nyswfwrestling or by calling (914) 235-4676. Prices range from $50 to $20 and will be subject to a service charge if purchased online.
