Pro's from the Palace (#243) - Imagine recreating the Four Horsemen now

It's been far too long since I have tried to dive in to the recesses of my mind and come up with some obscure, wacked out idea, and brought it out for you to parouse and rip to shreds.

Well, I got one, and I can't take credit for it. I gotta give props to my fellow insane in the membrane brother in arms, Andrew up north, not too far north, but north of me, for this idea.

Let's say this before I even continue. I have no proof of this ever happening. It's simply me trying to think like someone in WWE creative. Whether or not it happens is total coincidence, and nothing more than that. THIS IS JUST IMAGINATION and opinion. Ok? Cool.

This idea that I got is not original, but I think I can make it such that either you'll think, or wanna throw your computers through the internet and aim them straight at my skull.

It was tough to get started with this tonight. I'm busy trying to figure out how to succeed in GM Mode of Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 for PSP. I'm 21% complete, but riddled with injuries, and I can't get fan support to save my life. God, what a cornball I am. Ok, back to business.

Ready?

Here we go.

Ric Flair returns in his non-wrestling role, and begins to compile a stable, ala the Original Four Horsemen, calling it whatever you like, Horsemen 2010, or whatever. Question would be, if this were to happen, who would be viable candidates to follow the suit of the original, the elite men who made faction warfare a fashion statement, Ole & Arn, Tully & Ric. One caveat to think about. If this were to go down, the one qualifiying condition would be, nobody from the former Evolution would be involved.

Let's run through a couple of names.

First obvious choice for the "Flair" persona would be Edge. I can't take credit for this choice, as my buddy Andrew gave it out, but I agree. Edge has shown the cunning, the bravado, and the technical ability in the ring to emulate him as the leader of this wanna - be faction. I'm not talking about his "familiga" now with Chavo, Vickie, and the former Majors, I am talking about a legit group, what you have there currently is nothing more than a cluster-bomb waiting to explode. Edge is one of the major cogs of the future of the success of this business, and his strength, by far, is as a heel, and he's evolved in to a good stable leader with this group he has now. If he were to be folded in to this new formed Horsemen group, the possibilities could be endless.

Another possibility for this would be MVP. However, I don't think MVP can go hardcore like Edge has gone in the past, and to be the Man, you gotta be able to handle all types of situations. Yes, MVP has gone through fire, literally, but he hasn't done it regularly. With Edge's past through TLCs, and the hardcore feud with Foley a while back, Edge has shown he can technically kill you, and he can kill you, legitimately, a la the legendary "Naitch."

Now, though, things get a little tricky. I'll try and match a present day superstar to the role of Tully Blanchard. Here, MVP may be more fitting, but I still don't think so. I was saying to my buddy when we were debating this about the possibility of Chavo Guerrero, maybe more so because of the present situation, but after thinking about it further, I doubt it. A possibility that just popped in to my head, and this one's a doozie, could be Matt Striker. He hasn't got the resume a Blanchard had when he joined the Horsemen, but its possible to acquire it while in training, and Striker has the charisma to be the bad guy that'll need to be paramount if this imaginary group is going to succeed.

Who else could fit the "Blanchard" role? Mr. Kennedy? Possibly. What he has that Striker doesn't is championship experience. Striker's lack of wrestling all together would probably hurt him if this deal were to go down. Who else? Out of the current crop, it's difficult to put a name to this type of role. Is it possible to dip down to developmental, and pull someone like Ted DiBiase, Jr., Matt Sydal, or Colt Cabana? Cabana's more a comedy wrestler, so it'd be difficult there, DiBiase has the genes to be able to fit in to a stable like this, and Sydal would be a difficult heel to sell from his boyish good looks, (no comments there), but if you attire him correctly, the chances are there.

While it's difficult to go down the role of finding someone to fit the "Tully Blanchard" style role of this new fangled Horsemen stable we're dreaming up, it's even more tough to find a tag team worthy of being compared to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew. Now, I got a name I could put in to the role for the Enforcer, Arn Anderson, but I'll get to that in a little bit. The question here is, which tag team would be viable to be a member of this new Horsemen group?

Going back to the earlier debate that I had with my pal, he said Miz and Morrison. I can't dispute it, although I don't like it. Why? Simple. Ole and Arn can be bowling shoe ugly when they need to be, and Miz & Morrison have not shown the ability to get down and dirty when they have to. Yes, they are probably the most dominant tag team in WWE at the present time, and yes, they have the gold to make them viable candidates to join our dream group, but I need a tag team with more dirt behind their nails, and the ability to drop a few kendo sticks and steel chairs across people's skulls. While Miz and Morrison will use every short cut in the book, I don't see them as "hardcore" as I think the team in this group would need to be.

A developmental idea for the tag team, which is feasible, but highly doubtful due to one member's current status within WWE, is the Second CIty Saints of Colt Cabana and CM Punk Why? Simple. Punk and Cabana can be re-packaged to fit the Horsemen style, gimmick wise, and Punk and Cabana have had the experience, whether it be here or ROH, to get the job done in any way possible, whether its wrestling, or weapons. I think they would be the closest fit to the Anderson tag team, if we're gonna try and mold this new group in the style of the Original Four Horsemen.

I did mention I had one possibility as a subsitute for Arn Anderson himself, and that is, of course, Hardcore Holly. It'd be well deserving of Holly to get some good run with a group like this for his loyalty and dedication to the company, and if anyone currently has the same mentality as Double A did back in the day, its Holly. It's tough to go with Holly and his partner, the current World Tag champs, because a Rhodes in a Flair led stable would be something difficult to swallow, and Rhodes is still too green to do a run like this, but Holly as the Enforcer would definitely be a winner.

Is this going to happen? Doubtful. Could it? If WWE has some gumption, it's possible. The fun part here, is trying to come up with some viable candidates as members of this elite dream group that could run roughshod over three brands of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Hopefully, it may spark some interesting debates as to how this could be formed. If you'd like, drop me a dime, and the more creative ideas I get, I'll put them up on my blog.
