GEORGIA WRESTLING NEWS, NOTES, AND NOSTALGIA: 04/23/2008

NEWS

In another odd twist as it pertains to Georgia Wrestling Promotions, Loco Motive contacted GWH to note he had not only not agreed to appear on the April 27 GWP event in Woodstock, GA, but has not even been contacted. He learned of his being advertised on the card by reading about it at GWH. This is the same way several wrestlers who had been booked on the Night of Legends event for GWP, including Dennis Condrey and Brad Armstrong, had discovered that event had been cancelled. (Rich Tate)

NOTES

In Your Head will feature Dean Visk, a/k/a Dean Jablonski, on its show tonight at 7:00 PM ET. (Rich Tate)

K&S Wrestlefest has released a DVD shot this past weekend during a signing event, featuring Al Snow and Luke Williams. Shot in a roundtable format, the disk is hosted by K&S’ Kenneth Pulvidente and Steve Johnson, author of several wrestling books. Clocking in a two hours, the DVD can be ordered through the K&S website. For more information, you can call (516) 473-4944. (Rich Tate)

GWH wishes a happy birthday to Tony Atlas (64) and John Cena (31).

CHIKARA sent this in:

CHIKARA makes its Massachusetts debut in May!

In the month of May, CHIKARA is hosting a total of 4 live events - two here in our home state of Pennsylvania, and two up in New England! We return to Wallingford, CT, and make our Massachusetts debut the weekend of May 23rd and 24th. With these events just about a month away, we're got a quartet of matches to announce today as the cards start to take shape:

~IN HELLERTOWN on MAY 17~
CHIKARA's own Icarus takes on ROH underdog Pelle Primeau!
Chuck Taylor & Gran Akuma look to pick up a point against Mike Quackenbush & Shane Storm!

~IN PHILLY on MAY 18~
Pelle Primeau will test the mettle of Brodie Lee!
Sara Del Rey & Bobby Dempsey team up for mixed tag action with Daizee Haze & Chuck Taylor!

~IN FRAMINGHAM on MAY 23~
Claudio Castagnoli joins forces with Incoherence to meet the Fabulous Two & Brodie Lee!
Jimmy Olsen goes one-on-one with Icarus!

~IN WALLINGFORD on MAY 24~
Cheech & Cloudy meet the challenge of the Super Smash Bros!
Mike Quackenbush & Shane Storm take on The Osirian Portal!

Next month, we're going to gather up 8 of the world's finest high-flying wrestlers, and put them together in a mini-tournament we call "Rey de Voladores" (that's Spanish for "King of Flyers")! Earlier this week we confirmed our own Lince Dorado as the first official entry into RdV. Dorado made it to the finals of last year's tournament, where he met defeat at the hands of Chuck Taylor. Considering his strong showing at this year's King of Trios tournament, maybe the title "King of Flyers" is the next accolade the young luchador will earn. Also confirmed for the mini-tournament is our own Young Lions Cup champ, Helios.

"Rey de Voladores" matches will take place at our first two events in the month of May - that's May 17 in Hellertown and May 18 in Philadelphia. Fans attending our May 18 card will have the option to stay at the Alhambra to watch WWE pay-per-view event "Judgment Day" immediately following our live event, and we'll announce more details as we get them from our pals at the New Alhambra.

Advance tickets for our next 7 live events, including Young Lions Cup VI are on sale right now! Visit our online store and pick up your copy of the first issue of the CHIKARA comic book (Season 7, Volume 1)!

We are pleased to confirm that the former WWE Tag Team champion will be appearing on all three shows in May. These shows take place in Exmouth, Bournemouth and Portsmouth between the dates of May the 26th, 27th and 28th. VPW and our new friend look forward to seeing you there.

This is the first big name to be confirmed, be sure to return to the VPW website frequently as another will be confirmed soon. A big announcement will be made at these shows, one you won't want to miss!
