Pro's from the Palace (#246) - Picks & Thoughts for WWE Backlash PPV
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com
» On Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

Time to get right down to business and pick Backlash tomorrow night. I have some pressing issues, so time is essential.

Big Show vs. The Great Khali
I give Big show a lot of credit. He's gone from dealing with someone who has never wrestled in a match in the biggest stage of the entire year, to the guy who is supposed to know, but doesn't know how to wrestle worth a damn at Backlash. This will be worse than bowling shoe ugly, it'll be disgusting to endure. It should be impactful, and down right intense, but I don't suspect that it's going to be very effective when it comes to a pay per view match. I think it should have been dragged out a little bit further and maybe gone down the pay per view road next month. Either which way, its a pick em match. I think that the Big Show will take the win for the simple reason that I doubt WWE would want to have an angered Big Show after having to job for two straight months on PPV since returning to the company. Khali has shown little in the form of his "domination" that he's supposed to be wreaking with the exception of last week, and that can be blown off as a fluke. This one goes to the Larget Athlete in the World over the clumsiest.

Winner: The Big Show

12 Divas Tag Team Match
Mickie James, Maria, Ashley, Michelle McCool, Cherry & Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian Hall, Layla, Victoria, & Natalya Neidhart
On sheer talent, the heels of Beth Phoenix and her crew have the edge in a major way. Melina, Victoria, Natalya, and Beth are major league players in the woman's division on sheer talent and strength. James has the momentum with her upset win of the women's title, and the storyline with McCool & Cherry vs. Victoria & Natalya does provide a little bit of a backdrop storyline to this match. Personally, I think it could have been done differently, but hey, twelve divas on television isn't a terrible thing because frankly, they're just too damn good looking not to stare at. :)

Ok, Ok, I know, for the purist, that's just wrong. But hey, who said I was a purist?

Winners: Beth Phoenix, Melina, Jillian Hall, Layla, Victoria & Natalya Neidhart

By the way, nice work for Natalya. Her '2nd match' on Smackdown is on Pay per view. Not a bad jump from the developmentals. Too bad Teddy couldn't have kept his mouth shut, it would have been really enjoyable to see a 2nd generation Hart Foundation.

Special Referee: Chris Jericho
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista
Ok, I gotta preface this by saying this. This feud has been done BEAUTIFULLY, if it stops here. We have to get a clean winner, one way or another. Then it can go to the next level, and we can continue if need be, or both men can move on. What I don't want to see is what they did with the tragedy of Eddie, and other "departure" storylines, I don't want to see them drag Ric Flair's name through the mud and the muk throughout this storyline. It takes the value of Ric Flair's name, and trashes it immensely. What has to happen here, to keep Flair's name as viable as it is currently, and to take this feud to the next level is an absolute clean win. Personally, I'm curious to see who wins here as both of these men's egos are the size of Montana. I'll be very curious to see who from the suits can get a winner done here. I'm going to go with my gut, and go with the guy I dislike the least out of the two. In simpler words, I'm not a huge fan of both, but I'll pick the one I like more than the other.

Winner: Shawn Michaels

I don't think Batista can do a PPV win two days after losing a title match to the Undertaker. It's just not good booking, I would think. Also, Jericho's prowress in the match will be a wild card, but I suspect maybe we may get a Batista/Jericho inter-promotional feud out of this. Or at least, I hope so. It'd be nice to see.

WWE United States Championship
MVP vs. Matt Hardy
Is this finally the day? I have to say that this feud, even with the break due to Hardy's injury, has been tremendous. But, is this finally going to be the day? Judgment Day is approaching, making MVP a one year long champion. Will they wait till they can eclipse the year as champion with Porter, or is Hardy going to break the glass ceiling now? It's a tough question to answer, as I suspect both men could come out victorious here. It's one of the good qualities of this PPV, there's not a lot of real "predictable" matches here. This time out, I'm gonna say MVP figures out a way to slither the title away from Matt. It may be a wild idea, but what about Matt continues the feud with MVP, and finally wins it when his brother comes back to the company, and debuts on Smackdown, to reunite the Hardys, so Jeff can continue his career and keep himself out of trouble under the watchful eye of his brother. It's a wild idea, but it's feasible, and it would be a hell of an idea to take this feud to the next level.

By the way, MVP is quickly becoming one of my favorite heels. He's tremendous.

Winner: M.V.P.

ECW Championship
Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero
Is the faction going to be able to take the Big Red Monster? It's a tough question. It's obvious of one thing, Bam Neely and Kane have a collision course waiting to happen, and the only question will be whether or not its for the ECW title. I would pray and hope that WWE is smart enough to keep the BoD with titles on their waists, as the uniqueness of the champions being "brothers" is something that can still be manipulated. I think Kane will figure out a way to outsmart the "familiga", and keep the belt, but it will be hard as hell to do so. I suspect one bruised and battered Guerrero come the end of Backlash.

Winner: Kane

WWE Championship
Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Bradshaw Layfield vs. John Cena
The "Age of Orton" sounds awfully too similar to the "Age of the Fall" from ROH, but that's just my own opinion, not an ROHbot's thought. Anyway, I still wanna know how JBL has a shot at the title. I don't think he's gotten enough done to be vying for the WWE title. Anyway, this oughta be really fun. One question though is, is Cena spreading himself too thin with the movie, and fighting for the title, especially with the time off for the overseas trip that WWE took? Could ring rust be a problem, or could there be a possibility of a re-injury due to the split focus that the WWE's most marketable talent is enduring at this time? It is obvious of one thing, John Cena is NOT winning the WWE title here. Personally, I think its Triple H's time. Out of this match, could be the feud that I would love to see before the Game goes heel, and that's Triple H vs. JBL. Hopefully, that'll blossom here. Anyway, I don't think I'm gonna lose here twice. I picked Triple H last month, and I don't think lightning is going to strike twice. No champion can make it through a triple threat at Wrestlemania, and then a fatal four way the next month. It's too much.

Winner: Triple H

World Heavyweight Championship
The Undertaker vs. Edge
Question 1. Will Batista play a role in this match? Question 2. How much role will Edge's cronies play? Question 3. Will there be any surprise rule changes to the match done by Vickie Guerrero before the bell rings? Any which way you slice it, the Dead Man retains. No way in hell are they gonna cut this reign short, as it's been a year in the making. Is the feud over? Doubtful, but there's pretty much a 98 - 2 chance that the Undertaker will retain in some way, shape, or form, and lead up to a stip match at Judgment Day. Can you say Hell in a Cell?

Winner: The Undertaker

Ok, like I said, time is money right now, and I have pressing issues. I'll see you all soon.
