WWE Conference Call Highlights: PPV buys, TV ratings and Mayweather
On Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 4:55 PM EST Here are some highlights from today's WWE conference call earlier today courtesy of PWInsider:
- WrestleMania was the highest grossing live event in WWE history.
- They put over the increase in PPV buys for the Royal Rumble and No Way Out this year versus last, adding that "streamlining" their PPV schedule has helped buys increase overall (by dropping New Year's Revolution and December to Dismember).
- In regards to a drop in TV ratings, it was stated that USA Network is still thrilled with what WWE is giving them and that Vince McMahon is happy with the creative direction and talent roster.
- A third of the PPV buys for WrestleMania 24 came internationally and was on par with last year.
- It was stated that Floyd Mayweather was not paid $20 million for WrestleMania. However, the exact amount Mayweather was given was not made clear.
- In regards to a 6% drop in web traffic and drop in e-commerce, it was stated that they made changes to WWE.com and are targeting "lesser known wrestling sites that are existing on our back and divert those users back to WWE.com."
- WWE plans to do 80 international events this year as opposed to 75 last year. There are hopes of a tour in China next year.
