The Sun in the UK has an interview up with TNA World Tag Team Champion LAX members Homicide, Hernandez and Salinas. Here are some highlights:
On how LAX was formed in TNA:
Homicide: "It was put together by TNA and started when they told Konnan to go out and get two Latin wrestlers. We had wrestled each other in Puerto Rico and he loved my style and told the office: “We’ve got to bring in Homicide”. After Hernandez came into the picture we dominated the tag team scene, not only TNA but the whole business. Because you had cats in the WWE looking at us too."
Hernandez: "I was with the company briefly in 2003 and 2004 and then I went to Mexico to do Lucha Libre for three years. My contact details changed but then a friend called as he’d been e-mailed that TNA was interested in having me back. I was a little wary at first and it was a little slow at the beginning but once they let us start having matches it went crazy."
On the addition of Salinas to LAX:
Homicide: "F***ing smokin’! One day someone, I forget who as I was too drunk on Tequila but I think was Terry Taylor, came to us and said ‘We need a girl for your team.’ That’s when Shelly Martinez, we call her Salinas, came in the picture. She’s from LA, from the West Coast and like me and Konnan always said – LAX has to be like a real gang. I represent New York City and Puerto Rico, Hernandez represents Texas and Mexico. Salinas represents Los Angeles and Mexico."
Salinas: "I have so much fun with them, joke around and play little jokes on each other, it’s all good. And they’re teaching me to wrestle too. We get in there and roll around. We all grew up on the street and that makes it work. A lot of people don’t know that about me because they’re so stuck on my old character I used to play. My real family, this is how they are."
On what happened to LAX in TNA:
Homicide: "There was a little personal problem going on, I feel that the company wasn’t confident in us that we could be on the top of our game. In the ghetto, in the hood, we say ‘They sleeping on us’. I’m not sure how popular that phrase is in the UK but it means they are not watching us very well. But now they’ve started waking up and saying ‘My God, people really like LAX!’ But the people have always liked us. Even when we were bad guys. Even when we burned the American flag we had a few Gringos cheering for us."
On Konnan's departure from TNA:
Homicide: "To be honest with you, I really don’t know what’s going on with that situation. That’s down to him. I’m still friends with Konnan but when it comes to business everybody here has to feed their kids. I’m not saying that I’m not down with Konnan but I work for the money. I am a single dad. I’m working with TNA so I’m down with the company. Business is business. I’m appreciative of what Konnan did for us, especially for me because nobody gave me a chance due to my size and my background, and he gave me the opportunity to come to TNA to show my stuff. But now I’m with TNA and it’s a great company. Konnan’s got a little side job going. He’s already a legend, he’s already made his name. Now it’s our turn."
On pro wrestling fans in America:
Homicide: "America is a joke when it comes to wrestling fans. I’m going to say it out loud. We got good wrestling fans and we got smart marks who are bunch of idiots and dorks sitting at a computer and thinking they are better than a wrestler or a booker."
