More on the Vince McMahon angle on Raw last night, media outlets, info
On Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 6:17 PM EST As many have probably assumed at this point, the angle at the ending of Raw last night involving Vince McMahon was done to put an end to the Million Dollar Mania giveaway contest. I've had more than a handful of people e-mail me and express disgust that WWE did this angle just weeks after a TNA crew member was killed at the hands of staging equipment collapsing.
Several media outlets in Texas reported last night that McMahon was rushed to the hospital after a "freak accident" on Raw and was "crushed by a large electric sign that fell from the AT&T Center." This happened last year for the limo explosion angle when the media treated it as legit, although this time around things were done differently.
WWE issued the following press release today about the angle:
RAW® DRAMA
STAMFORD, Conn., June 24, 2008 – One of the most dramatic scenes in the history of Monday Night RAW took place live last night on USA Network’s ratings winner. After legitimately giving away $1 million dollars for the 3rd week in a row, an “accident” occurred burying Mr. McMahon® in over a ton of rubble.
Last week, Monday Night RAW ratings defeated all other television programming on broadcast and cable in the coveted male 18-49 demographic. Last night’s shocking twist will no doubt add even more intrigue to the most watched regularly scheduled show on cable.
