Another live report from Smackdown - ECW TV tapings in Moline
» Reported by Adam Martin of WrestleView.com
» On Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 2:15 AM EST

Ryan Howard sent this report in:

I saw you guys already had the live results, but I thought I would add some notes from the matches and reactions from the crowd during the matches.

Tons of upperdeck seats were blocked off. I had a seat in 216, but it was tarped off. The security lady gave me a different ticket and I got to sit in 109 right in the middle, so a definite upgrade from my 20 dollar cheap seat to the 42 dollar ticket I ended up getting for no additional charge.

Takeshi Morishima beat Jamie Noble via Back Drop Driver
- Tony Atlas was in Morishima's corner, which made absolutely zero sense, as he didn't get involved at all. Morishima got absolutely no reaction from the crowd, except for the 4 people around me (myself included) who popped BIG when he got announced. Noble got a pop after the match.

John Morrison, The Miz & Chavo Guererro beat Tommy Dreamer, Super Crazy & Evan Bourne
- This was the official opener of the night, and crowd was really big on Dreamer. Big pop for Bourne's moonsault off the top. I honestly forgot Super Crazy was drafted to ECW until tonight. I sure hope they continue to push Evan Bourne.

Ricky Ortiz beat Gavin Spears
- Boy, Ortiz sure does have the look, but again, crowd was dead during his match. Gavin Spears I think was FCW talent Shawn Spears.

Mark Henry beat Matt Hardy
- I can't stand to watch Mark Henry, so no notes here.

SMACKDOWN
- Vickie confused the hell out of the audience by explaining the Championship Scramble concept. She made it seem like the Scramble would take place live on Smackdown. Anyways, so much for the Scramble being an "Adamle Original."

Maria vs Natalya - No decision
- Good Lord is Maria hotter in person. Funny sign to note, a guy about 4 rows behind me had a sign that read "Maria I've Seen You Naked." I found that awesome. Big pop for Michelle to make the save from the Maryse and Natalya attack. I was bummed I didn't see a Natalya Sharpshooter.

10 Man Battle Royal Championship Chase Match
Armando Estrada, Funaki, Super Crazy, Scotty Goldman, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, Jimmy Wang Yang, Vladimir Kozlov, THE Brian Kendrick, and it was KEVIN THORN.
- you guys had listed a "unkown wrestler" in the results, but from the looks of it, I think it was Kevin Thorn. It looked exactly like him, and he had his hair grown out to Gothic Thorn length again. Scotty Goldman got a pop from our section, becuase, well, he's Colt Cabana.
- The Brian Kendrick winning was awesome, because his cheering section was the row I was in. So glad Kendrick is getting a main event match at Unforgiven. His dancing is friggin brilliant as well.

No response from the crowd for the R-Truth Ron Killings promo.

MVP beat Festus by countout
- Wow, this match was really really dull. Very slow match with MVP working on the arm for most of the match. Ending was lame and cheesy, but with the Festus character, it's not surprising. After the match, MVP just looked at Festus and gave him a boot with Festus not moving or anything to block it.

Shelton Benjamin beat Finlay
- Shelton had a pre match promo, saying it was hard to live up to the Gold Standard with people like, and I quote, "MARK PHELPS" at the Olympics. Boy if Shelton said Mark Phelps instead of Michael Phelps on purpose, then Bravo, because I bought it.
- Mike Knox got the biggest heel reaction since he was pulling Kelly down off the stage from stripping in the early WWECW days.

Jeff Hardy beat Great Khali
- Nothing too much to mention here, other than a guy next to me started a Great Khali chant. Most likely the first time that's ever been done.

- Triple H's promo botch was awesome, and it will no doubt be edited out, but the fact he laughed it off was cool. He talked about every participant in the Championship Scramble. Including "not just Brian Kendrick, THE Brian Kendrick." Kenny coming out was funny, as was the DX Suck It sign HHH gave him post pedigree.

- During a commercial break, they had a Vickie Guerrero video of her talking on the TitanTron, but it had no audio. They faded to black 4 times, and all 4 times it had no audio.

- You can feel the heat from the fire when Undertaker came out to the ring.

POST MATCH MAIN EVENT
Triple H beat The Great Khali to retain the WWE Championship in a Street Fight in about 4 minutes. HHH won via Sledgehammer shot to the head and got the pin. Boy Khali screwed up selling a HHH knee. After the match, HHH walked all around the ring and gave high fives and hugs to the crowd.

Biggest Pops
1. Undertaker
2. Triple H
3. Jeff Hardy
4. Matt Hardy
5. Big Show

Biggest Heat
1. Vickie Guerrero
2. Mike Knox (boy he had heat after he attacked Finlay, it's amazing)
3. MVP (he even had an autograph signing earlier in the day, so I was surprised fans didn't at least cheer him a little)
4. Shelton Benjamin
5. THE Brian Kendrick (when HHH mentioned his name during his promo)

Overall far from being a sellout. WWE hasn't been there in 6 years with Smackdown. So it was a nice change of pace to see this instead of Raw. I was told Harley Race was there tonight, but never saw him. A few signs were taken away from people, but I was unable to see what they read before they were confiscated.
