The Boogeyman v. Matt Striker (w/ Big Daddy V)

Any night with our teacher is great.

Striker came out and said he knew he was going to be victorious because he was ‘omniscient’ which meant… um.. Anyways ‘omnipotent’ means all powerful and that can also mean Big Daddy V.

Striker circled the frothed mouth one before V made his way up onto the apron. Striker jumped Boogey before Boogey caught him with a pair of lariats. Striker flailed all about and went back out to the outside of the ring and hid behind his protégé.

Striker made his way back in the ring and tossed a kick in Boogeyman’s direction before it was caught and Striker was body slammed twice then clotheslined out of the ring. Striker took a breather and goaded Boogey to the apron where he grabbed his boot and dragged him to the outside of the ring.

His fortune was short-lived however, and soon found himself getting Boogey splashed out of the ring. Striker was screaming like nuts running from Boogey, who came around the corner and ran face first into a brutal Big Daddy V lariat to end the match.

Winner: Boogeyman via DQ

After the match, Big Daddy V continued the fun and Fall away slammed Boogey on the concrete floor. It looked pretty rough.

ECW GM Alejandro Estrada approached CM Punk in the back and said he couldn’t wait for the title match tonight. Estrada said he had a major announcement for Punk. Tonight was his last chance to win the ECW championship and wished Punk luck. Punk said that luck was for losers and walked off.

Balls Mahoney v. The Miz (w/ Extreme Expose)

The two locked horns and Miz backed Mahoney into the corner. The two opened up the action a little bit and Miz hit a clothesline for a two count. Miz clubbed away at Balls before hitting a nice scoop slam for another two count. Miz slapped on the good old rear chin lock looking to wear the big man down.

Eventually Balls caught Miz with a back elbow and was able to hit a shoulder block and gets some stuff going. Mahoney hit the balls punches and a nasty back drop driver for a two count. Mahoney looked for a back body drop but Miz caught him with the reality check out of nowhere for the win.

Winner: The Miz via pin fall

Miz got on the stick after the match and said the announcer should announce Balls as the loser of the match. Kelley Kelly attended to him, as he looked like he was a real mess. The Expose and Miz made fun of her calling Mahoney disgusting before leaving the ring.

Morrison is in the back cutting a promo about how incredible he was. He cut a wildly good promo. I mean seriously great. Go on You Tube and find this while the getting’s good.

A video recap aired putting over the McMahon family angle last night on Raw.

Elijah Burke & Kevin Thorn v. Steven Richards & Tommy Dreamer

Thorn decked Richards with a right hand and opened up on him in the corner to start things off. Richards hit a hip toss and some kicks before tagging in Tommy Dreamer. He and Dreamer hit a cool drop toe hold-elbow combo for a two count.

Thorn quickly overwhelmed Tommy, hitting him with a body slam and a shoulder tackle. Elijah Burke came in but missed a catapult, and Tommy Dreamer took the right to him. Thorn decked Dreamer in the back, allowing Burke to hit a lariat to floor Dreamer before tagging the big man back in.

Thorn kept on clubbing away at Dreamer in the corner, keeping him isolated. Dreamer tried to wiggle out, but Thorn snared him in a pseudo-rear naked choke. The crowd rallied Dreamer who fought back and was able to trip up Thorn in the corner just long enough to get the tag.

Richards came in and it’s Stevie time. Richards cleaned house before hitting a Stevie kick to the gut. Kevin Thorn popped back up and tossed him into the ring post but Dreamer took out Thorn to leave just Burke and Richards in the ring along. Burke came sailing across the ring and hit the Elijah express and that’s all he needed.

Winners: Elijah Burke & Kevin Thorn via pin fall

ECW World Championship
CM Punk v. John Morrison

The two locked horns and Punk desperately tried to pry Morrison off him. Punk squirmed out and hit a front face lock before Morrison traded that in for a hammer lock. Punk wiggled out of the hold and we’ve got some more mat wrestling fun before we’ve got a stand off.

The two locked up again and Punk grabbed a side headlock. Morrison sent him off the ropes only to eat a shoulder block and a hip toss. Punk went for a cover but only got a one count. Punk controlled the arm and slapped on an arm bar but Morrison was able to yank him back by the hair and put the boots to him.

Morrison clubbed away at the challenger in the corner before gathering him and whipping him to the opposite buckles. Punk caught him on the way in though and then hit a sling shot back elbow for a near fall. Punk hit a body slam and a leg drop and again went for the cover for a two count.

Punk hit a nasty kick to the chest of Morrison and then a nasty knee to the chest. Punker kept on striking away on Morrison before sending him crashing into the turnbuckles on an Irish whip. Punk hit a nice snap suplex and went for a cover for quick two count.

Morrison hit a jawbreaker to buy himself some time before stomping away on Punk on the apron. The two duked it out briefly on the apron before Morrison flipped over the top of Punk and looked for a power bomb. Punk blocked it though and hit a thrust kick before sending himself off the ropes and into the waiting champion on the floor.

We came back to Morrison working over Punk’s arm, only for him to fight out of the hold and grab a roll up for a near fall. Punk whipped Morrison and looked for the springboard lariat, but Morrison caught him by the hair in mid air and slammed him to the mat for a two count.

Morrison continued to stomp away on Punk before choking him out on the apron. Morrison draped his chest over the side of the ring and went to the outside for some nice field goal style kicks. Morrison hit a nice pommel horse leg drop knocking Punk to the floor. He gathered Punk and tossed him back into the ring for a two count before going back to the trusty rear chin lock.

Punk fought out of the hold, but Morrison caught him in a back breaker. Punk caught a roll up out of nowhere only for Morrison to kill him with a knee to the face. Morrison kept on hammering away at Punk’s face with punches before trying to catch another pin.

Back to the rear chin lock we go and again, Punk uses the crowd to get back to his feet. Morrison cuts him off this time by yanking him by the hair to the mat. Morrison went for his cork screw thing off the top rope, but Punk caught him and superplexed him to the mat.

Punk hit a back thrust kick and some right hands to Morrison’s face. He connected with some lariats and a nice spinning back kick for a huge near fall. Punk kept up the pressure and hit the knee-bulldog combo for another huge two count. Punk hit some muy thai knees and looked for welcome to Chicago but Morrison picked him off and hit a Pele kick.

Morrison hit a corkscrew moonsault but Punk kicked out to a huge crowd pop. Morrison went for the neck breaker but Punk avoided him and almost grabbed a roll up. Punk went for Go 2 Sleep but Morrison wiggled out and went for a dirty roll up but the official caught him. Punk almost caught HIM in a roll up while Morrison was arguing with the ref.

The kick out happened and both traded crashes before Punk was able to catch Morrison in Go 2 Sleep and we have a new world champ.

Winner and NEW ECW World Champion: CM Punk via pin fall

ECW Round Up

Show Thoughts-- I’ve got to say, for my money, this was the best hour of wrestling ECW’s ever put together. All the under card matches had some sort of point or hook to them and while they weren’t pulling out nine million moves, everything was super solid.

The Miz-Balls program has just been awesome and to be honest, I almost wish they’d put it on Pay per view. It’s a well booked feud with two guys who are PERFECT for their roles. Neither is Ric Flair in the ring or anything, but they’re entertaining on some level and this storyline’s been helpful to them both. Give these guys a reward.

I love Stevie Richards and Tommy Dreamer as the old stalwarts almost as much as I like watching the slow growth of Kevin Thorn and how he’s working his way up the card one person at a time. A good tag match tonight from all involved parties and shockingly, it looks like the Black Pope is off of jobber duty. Thank god for that.

And of course the big title change and I’m sure at this point the IWC is in full celebration. I wrote a column on Randy Orton a few weeks ago and what it was sort of like to grow up with him through the years, but I’d say that’s been even more so the case with CM Punk, whom I watched put on crap-tacular matches in IWA to his growth as a worker and character in ROH, to that incredibly awesome title run in 2005 to his debut and rise to the top of his brand in the WWE. Punk is a testament to the fact that muscles and looks don’t always mean instant success and that skinny, doofy looking guys like half the folks that read this site can still live the dream. Congrats to him.

Easily the best show of the year from ECW, which is becoming one of the most fun wrestling shows out there.

ECW World Champion: CM Punk 11-5, 19 pts. (Last Week: 2) -- Another really strong baby face performance for CM Punk, whose obviously getting over pretty big with the crowd. He’s got a lofty task ahead of him, but from the looks of things, a lot of heels are being moved into place to challenge him in the coming months.

1. Big Daddy V 5-2, 12pts. (Last Week: 1)-- Once the Boogeyman stuff is over, I can’t imagine that Big Daddy V ISN’T the #1 contender for the belt. However, I’d shy away from a program with Punk right now, as I think it’s probably an appropriate first “he might lose the belt program’ possibly best saved for Survivor Series or late October. Still, V’s the man.

2. John Morrison 9-5, 24pts. (Last Week: ECW World Champion)-- It’s a shame Morrison had to get himself caught up in all this exterior hullabaloo, but he’ll be back and when he does pop back up, I’ve no doubt he’ll probably be plunged right into a program with Punk for the title. That promo tonight was probably the best promo I’ve heard all year from anyone, anywhere at anytime. Amazing what happens when you stop trying too hard.

3. The Miz 6-2 11pts. (Last Week: 5)-- I’m really beginning to dig this Balls Mahoney program, which has just been booked so well with the two perfect guys for the respective roles. I think Miz is a total greenhorn, but they’re playing to his strengths and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him get a program with Punk before the year’s out.

4. The Boogeyman 6-2, 11pts. (Last Week: 4) -- Not a heck of a lot this week, but a win’s a win, even if you eat V-fat in the process.

5. Elijah Burke 4-7, 7 pts (Last Week: NR) -- Burke sneaks onto the list over Kevin Thorne this week. He’s on a bit of a hot streak again, and has pinned Balls Mahoney and Stevie Richards in two weeks. Things seem to be looking up for the Black Pope.
