A brief recap of Big Daddy V’s demolition of CM Punk at this past Sunday’s No Mercy pay per view aired. Wow, John Morrison is back and he’ll be taking on CM Punk later tonight in the main event. Big Daddy V’s music hit and he made his way down to the ring to squash some bitches.

Big Daddy V v. Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer got bum rushed by V who began tossing him around the ring like a rag doll. V began frantically head butting and stomping on Dreamer and plopped him in the corner so we could get some standing on the chest action.

V tossed Dreamer out of the corner and hit a nasty belly to belly suplex on the ECW original. V walked all over Dreamer before giving him a couple of chops up against the ropes. Dreamer attempted to retreat to the outside for a respite, but V chased him out and choppy him silly some more.

Dreamer fought back on the way into the ring and went for a drop kick, but V shoved him flat on his back as he sailed off the top rope. V hit the avalanche in the corner before connecting with a monster fall away slam. He dropped the big power elbow and that’s all she wrote.

Winner: Big Daddy V via pin fall

Kevin Thorn v. Jake Curtis

Thorn locked horns with Curtis and quickly began clubbing him across the back with forearms before being pulled off Curtis by the official. Curtis did the vanilla baby face might have a chance stuff with a missile drop kick for a one count, but Thorn murdered him with a big, nasty lariat shortly thereafter.

Thorn continued to hammer away on Curtis before hitting a suplex and settling in to a rear chin lock. Thorn broke the hold himself and choked out poor Curtis on the ropes. Thorn got even nastier, chucking Curtis like a sack of potatoes into the ring post not once, but twice.

Curtis began to fight back rather meekly before Thorn resumed slapping him like the woman he is. Curtis ate some back elbows before avoiding Thorn’s elbow in the corner and going to town on him a bit. He looked for ten punches to the noggin’, but Thorn went for the crucifix bomb. The move got botched big time so they moved to finish #2 as Thorn connected with original sin for the win.

Winner: Kevin Thorn via pin fall

The Miz was in the back with Kelly Kelly. He made fun of Balls for a little while before informing her that she’d be in his corner for the match tonight. Kelly doesn’t look to excited.

The Miz v. Balls Mahoney

Miz started off with fists of fury before Balls came back with a whip and a few stiff right hands to the face. Miz spiked Balls’ head into the top buckle before recovering and hitting some bully-like cross faces to Balls’ grill. A snap mare later and Miz is going for a cover.

Miz slapped on a CREVAT~ as the crowd rallied behind Mahoney. Balls tossed him off before cutting off the charge in the corner with a few clotheslines of his own. Balls hit the B A L L S punches for a two count. Balls hit a body slam before he headed to the top rope and dedicated the move to Kelly.

The sentimental moment was stopped short though as Miz drop kicked him face first into the table. Balls is out on the floor and the ref made the ten count.

Winner: The Miz via count out

Kelly tended to Balls on the outside while Miz celebrated on the inside of the ring. Miz grabbed the bear after noticing Kelly with Balls. He teased giving it to her before kicking it into the crowd right in her face. Kelly looks super upset. Excellent angle.

John Morrison v. ECW Champion CM Punk

Morrison went right to Punk’s ribs, hitting a quick boot to the gut and then stomping all over them. Morrison hit some knees before clubbering away at the back of Punk’s ribs. Morrison went for the big pommel horse leg drop but Punk avoided him and hit a nifty back breaker for a two count.

Morrison quickly came back with a kick to the back of Punk’s head before slapping on the dreaded abdominal stretch of doom. Punk countered out with the monkey flip before dumping Morrison to the outside with a clothesline. Punk missed the plancha, before catching Morrison and going for a suplex on the ring steps.

Morrison countered though, and dumped Punk ribs-first onto the steel steps leaving the champion in agony.

We came back to Morrison in complete control, holding Punk on the mat with a bow and arrow, still working over the ribs. Punk fought back some but was mauled with a back breaker. Morrison went for a back drop but Punk tried a sunset flip that ended up being unsuccessful.

Morrison pressed his advantage, relentlessly attacking Punk’s midsection with a plethora of kicks and punches before dumping him out to the ringside area. Morrison kicked away at Punk’s ribs on the outside while Punk kept showing his pluckiness by fighting back.

Back in the ring, Morrison slapped on an STF while Punk fought to his feet. Morrison quickly cut off the comeback though, bum rushing Punk to the corner and connecting with some shoulder thrusts. He slapped Punk across the face before backing up and missing a charged in the corner.

Punk fought back with a springboard drop kick that bought him some time. He fought with Morrison on the apron before Morrison thrusted forward and got kicked in the teeth. Punk hit a hip toss into the ring before hitting some back elbows and a scoop slam. Punk began laying in the kicks to the chest before hitting his back heel kick.

Punk went for a cover and got a two count. Punk hit the bulldog-knee combo out of the corner for another near fall. Morrison came back out of nowhere though and hit a brutal kick to Punk’s face for a two count of his own.

Morrison continued with kicks to the ribs before hitting the spring board kick for a two count. Punk’s in control now looking for something off the top rope before Morrison caught him and hit a reverse superplex that planted Punk right on his ribs.

Winner: John Morrison via pin fall

ECW Round Up

Show Thoughts-- Another pretty solid, but seemingly ‘off’ episode of ECW this week.

I guess my biggest problem is that they just sorta plodded along from segment to segment without really moving anything anywhere. Save for the Balls-Miz-Kelly stuff, which btw is awesome, the rest of the show was entirely just ‘there’. There were A TON of these shows early in the year that just sucked so if you want to take something positive out of tonight, this was a ‘there’ show that was actually ok. The brand’s improved a lot in 10 months.

Fortunately for all of you folks, it leaves me with not a whole heck of a lot to say.

The one thing I WILL comment on though, is that I think the Punk-Morrison combination has to be the most hit-miss match up I’ve seen in the WWE in a while. They’ve had some good stuff (title change match, first encounter on TV), but also some really bad stuff (both pay per view matches). Tonight’s match was bad. Take away the finish, the match really dragged. Punk’s selling was good and Morrison looked good workin’ those ribs but neither guy really brought any energy to this tonight, which considering they’re the top two guys on the brand, you’d hope they would do that.

Overall though, a pretty bleh show by ECW standards, but at least that bleh isn’t a bad bleh anymore.

Overall Grade: C

ECW World Champion: CM Punk 15-6, 31 pts. (Last Week: ECW World Champion) -- I’m going to be the first to say it and that’s that Punker ain’t ready for this spot. I haven’t dug a single thing he’s done since becoming champ and he’s been garnering ZERO reaction from the crowd. I think the net hype has worn off and now Punk’s gotta put up the goods. He hasn’t thus far and I think people are beginning to see him as just another guy.

1. Big Daddy V 8-3, 18pts. (Last Week: 1)-- After killing the champion on the pay per view on Sunday, you’d figure they’d have done something to follow up on that momentum but alas, all we get is an awesome squash of Tommy Dreamer. I guess I’m just spoiled.

2. John Morrison 10-5, 26pts. (Last Week: 4)-- A clean win over the champion in your first night back is a pretty good way to boost yourself up the ladder. We have officially re-entered the palace of wisdom.

3. The Miz 9-2 17pts. (Last Week: 3)-- Miz’s character work gets better every week and tonight he REALLY had the high school pretty boy bully thing down pat. The bear kick was a great way to get a little more heat too. Miz’s work has been made a little better by Kelly NOT sucking and actually being pretty awesome in the acting department in this feud.

4. Elijah Burke 6-10, 11 pts (Last Week: 2)-- Not in action tonight.

5. Kevin Thorn 5-5, 9 pts. (Last Week: NR) -- Trades spots with Balls again tonight thanks to his winning and Balls losing. Thorne’s Mr. .500.
