Welcome to tonight’s election night coverage of ECW on Sci-Fi!

Matt Hardy v. Bam Neely

The two start to lock up and Bam definitely has the size and strength advantage tonight. Bam is whipped into the ropes and sends Matt down with a shoulder block but Hardy gets up and bounces off the ropes to hit a clothesline of his own. Matt Hardy briefly locks in a side headlock but Bam gets out. Neely is really aggressive now with two scoop slams on Hardy and a pin attempt. It fails and he hits a leg drop followed by another failed pin attempt. Matt Hardy gets up to the second turnbuckle and attempts a splash but gets caught and driven down to the mat. Bam attempts a vertical suplex but Matt counters it into a neckbreaker. Matt follows this up with a swinging neckbreaker but the pin attempt fails. He goes to the second rope and hits his EPIC elbow.

Matt Hardy hits the Side-Effect but Bam is able to kick out. Hardy goes up to the second rope and hits a very nice looking spinning DDT. Now Matt is making his way all the way up to the tope rope and hits a superplex on Hardy! Matt somehow kicks out! Bam lifts him up and tries to set Matt on the turnbuckle but Hardy turns it into a Twist of Fate!

Winner via Twist of Fate: Matt Hardy

Finlay’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring as we head to commercial.

We come back and Finlay is in the ring asking Matt for a one on one match for the ECW Title. Before Hardy can respond, Henry accompanied by Atlas, makes his way out to the ramp. Henry and Finlay start sounding off on each other but before they come to fisticuffs, Teddy Long hits the ramp. He announces that next week, Matt Hardy will defend his Title against the winner of tonight’s main event: Finlay v. Henry!

Ricky Ortiz v. Jon Davis

Ricky starts it right off with some punches and a nice shoulder block. Jon is in the corner but dodges a spear attempt. Davis tries a suplex but Ortiz is able to block it and hit a suplex of his own. Ricky hits a slam right away to follow up. The crowd attempts a lets go Davis chant. Ortiz goes to the second rope and hits a flying shoulder block. Ricky hits The Big O and this match is over.

Winner via The Big O: Ricky Ortiz

Jack Swagger makes his way down to the ring and has a mic. In the ring with him is a table with an assortment of items. He grabs the mic and begins to talk about Dreamer being in the business for 19 years. He goes through all the items which include a kendo stick, a trashcan, and the old ECW belt. He basically mocks Tommy Dreamer’s entire career. Swagger says Dreamer’s kids will be failures, you know that kind of thing. Well Tommy can’t take it anymore and runs down to the ring. He dodges a trash can and hits Jack with a kendo stick!

#1 Contender Match
Finlay w/ Hornswoggle v. Mark Henry w/ Tony Atlas

Finlay tries to lock up with Henry twice, and twice gets thrown down to the ring. Finlay uses his speed to get behind Mark and hit him in the back of the head. Mark sends Finlay to the mat with a head butt. Finlay is backed into the corner but slaps Henry in the face. Mark throws him down to the ground again. Finlay’s cheek looks to have been busted open and he is bleeding. Finlay tries to get in a few punches but ends up back in the corner. Henry hits him with a knee to the gut followed by a couple of chops. Henry blocks a punch and lays Finlay out.

We come back and Henry is holding Finlay up in the middle of the ring with a neck lock of sorts. Henry stands on Finlay’s arm and puts all of his weight on it to inflict damage. Finlay hits an eye rake to try and take Henry out for a second, but Henry follows it up with a headbutt and Finlay is down on the mat again. Henry goes for a pin but Finlay kicks out. Henry applies a submission to Finlay’s arm and it looks painful to be sure. Finlay is able to get out and bounces off the rope but Henry levels him with a shoulder block.

Henry tries to bounce off the second rope and attempts to land on Finlay but Finlay manages to dodge out of the way. Finlay is hitting dropkick after kick to try and take out Henry’s legs. Finlay is thrown out of the ring and Tony Atlas starts to stare him down. Finlay takes him out with a strong punch to the skull. Finlay is on the apron now and brings Henry’s throat down onto the rope. ‘Swoggle leaps onto Henry but Henry catches him in the air. Finlay takes out Henry’s legs and goes for the cover but Henry kicks out.

Mark Henry sees that Hornswoggle is in the ring and slips out of the ring after him and chasing him. Finlay tries to leap and take him out, but Henry catches Finlay and slams him into the steel post! Henry sees ‘swoggle and watches him slide back into the ring. Both Finlay and ‘swoggle are lying in the ring and Horn tries to cover Finlay’s body to protect him. Henry goes for a splash on the two but misses! Finlay picks up the Irish Foreign Object and nails the top of Henry’s skull. Finlay goes for the cover and gets the win!

Winner via IFO: Finlay

ECW Thoughts:

Let’s just cover this main event picture really quick here. I really am not a fan of the fact that Finlay keeps winning week after week by using illegal methods. Even the fans in the audience tonight seemed a bit put off by it.

Personally, I feel that it makes Finlay look weak. This entire match looked as though he was being demolished by Henry and the only way he was able to win was by cheating. Not exactly the way to convince me that he deserves the Title shot against Hardy.

While it really is a shame that Evan Bourne is injured, it seemed destined to happen. His reckless style was contrary to the WWE’s and for good reason. It isn’t a safe way to wrestle. As angry as I am that Paul London had to change his style once he got signed, this is exactly why. I wish Bourne the fastest recovery possible, and I look forward to his return.
