This week’s show quickly got started off with Ron “The Truth” Killings in the face of TNA announcer, Mike Tenay. Killings and the rest of 4 Live Kru demanded that Mike Tenay enter the ring with a microphone because they had a little something to say to the fans and Director of Authority, Vince Russo. Russo quickly realized what was taking place and ran down to the ring to stop 3LK from interrupting the show.
Russo told 3LK that last weeks decision will stick and that AJ Styles was still the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Konnan grabbed the microphone and asked how long Russo is going to keep screwing the 3 Live Kru. BG James told Russo that he couldn’t change the past, but he can change the future and give Killings a rematch with AJ Styles for the title. All of a sudden, The Alpha Male, Monty Brown, made his way to the ring and asked why they mentioned him, which no of them did.
Brown told Russo that he holds the title of “The Alpha Male” and that TNA was his hunting ground. B-Gizzle asked Brown who the hell he thought he was coming out and demanding a shot at the title. Soon after, 3 Live Kru attacked Brown until security had to come in and separate them. Russo was furious and told the Krew that he had enough with them and that they have 30 minutes to get out of the building.
The camera then turned to the back where Scott Hudson was standing by with Raven. Raven said that he would fulfill his destiny tonight by winning the NWA World Heavyweight Title. He told AJ that is was a short trip with a bad landing and to quote the Raven, Nevermore!
Sonjay Dutt vs. Amazing Red (First of 3 Matches)
The first of 3 matches started tonight between these two X Division competitors. Sonjay Dutt and Amazing Red share a mutual respect for one another, but tonight it was all business. The competitor who wins 2 out of the 3 matches in this series will get a shot at current X Division Champion, Frankie Kazarian for a chance at the title. Kazarian came out to the ramp with a chair to get a good look. Dutt gave up his spot on Team NWA for a shot at the X Division Title and was nonetheless ready to do whatever it takes to get that shot. It has almost been a year since Amazing Red won his first X title and he came into the match looking to gain back the prize he cherished so much.
Although both competitors are known for their high risk moves, neither seemed to try anything to risky as they both locked up in more of a technical wrestling match. Red and Dutt seemed to trade hold for hold in a match up that went back and forth. Neither competitor was able to put the other away. In the end, Dutt got a quick roll up for the pin, thus taking the series lead 1 – 0.
Attention then shifted to the back where Scott Hudson was standing by with former X Division Champion, Michael Shane. Hudson noticed that Shane was alone and asked where Traci was. Shane responded that he and Traci had parted ways and that he doesn’t need Traci or Shane Douglas to make it in this business. He told Hudson that he has to go take care of an old man.
Shane Douglas vs. Michael Shane
It was time for Teacher vs. Student as The New Franchise collided in a match with a lot to prove for both sides. Michael Shane entered the ring first and was shocked as The Franchise, Shane Douglas, made his way to the ring with Traci. Most of the early offense went to Michael Shane who began to work on Shane Douglas’ shoulder, a shoulder that was severely injured years ago in ECW with a match against Terry Funk. He even used Traci as a shield early on in the match.
Douglas managed to stop the assault on his week arm and got a triple set of suplexes on the young Shane. Just when it seemed that Douglas was going to put away his former pupil, Traci jumped up onto the apron where the referee cut her off. She then yelled for Michael Shane and attempted to throw him a chain. Douglas was too smart and too quick to fall for this one and intercepted the chain in midair. He then tied the chair around his fist and knocked Shane to the canvas floor and then got the 1 2 3 for the victory.
After realizing what Traci had done he grabbed her and began to spank her. Michael Shane was coming to his senses and Douglas stopped what he was doing. Traci then cracked him in the skull with her cast. She then grabbed a belt and began to choke the Franchise with it. Shane then got a superkick on Douglas right in the face as Traci was chocking him with the belt.
Camera’s shifted to the back where Scott Hudson was standing by with Scott D’Amore and Team Canada who was ready to do battle with Team NWA. D’Amore said that he had a new look team and that Team NWA was going to run out of luck when they face their neighbors to the North. 3 Live Kru then interrupted the Canadian crew to tell Hudson that they were leaving.
Team NWA vs. Team Canada (World X Cup Preview)
After a decisive win over Team AAA from Mexico last week, Team NWA, led by Jerry Lynn entered the ring to continue their winning streak against Team Canada. Scott D’Amore led his Canadian contingent to the ring with flag in hand and pride in his country. This match was simply AMAZING! Words can’t describe a match like this. In all my years of watching wrestling, I have never seen such a crazy match. If you happen to miss the show last night, I recommend you catch the replay of this one.
Showtime Eric Young, Johnny Divine, Petey Williams, Bobby Rude, Jerry Lynn, Elix Skipper, Christopher Daniels, and Chris Sabin put it all on the line in a match which saw great technical, high flying, out of this world action that will be tough to top. Scott D’Amore helped get the win for Team Canada after he broke a hockey stick over the back of Jerry Lynn that enabled Rude to get a quick roll up for the victory. Win or Lose, these 2 North American teams put on one heck of a match that would get anyone looking forward to the World X Cup!
Attention again shifted to the back where Hudson got a look at Vince Russo’s locker room which appeared to have been destroyed by someone. Hudson suspected as well as others, that this was the work of the 3 Live Kru. Kid Kash came in the room and told Scott that he is going to beat James Storm like a government mule. Storm then walked in and chased Kid Kash all the way back to the ring. Both traded blows until Dallas came in to help his tag team partner. Storm realized he was outnumbered and ducked out of the ring to avoid the double team.
Trinity vs. Desire
It was time for some women’s action as both Desire and Trinity were set to go one on one. It was Desire’s first singles match since returning from a broken back that she suffered nearly 1 year ago. The NYC (Gilberti and Swinger) accompanied their fellow New Yorker, Trinity, to the ring. Desire came to the squared circle with her own backup in the form of Sonny Siaki and Pat Kenney. The referee sensed that this could get ugly and sent all 4 men to the back.
Siaki was hesitant to leave Desire, but she waived him on and told him that she would be OK. Desire then when straight to work on Trinity. Trinity went for the back right away, knowing of the injury Desire sustained to that area. In the end, Trinity also managed to steal a win by using the referee to push into Desire. After the match was over, Trinity went for a chair and placed it on Desire’s back, looking to do more damage to that sensitive area, but Siaki ran in to make the save and stop Trinity from doing more damage.
Tenay got word that something was happening in the back outside and the cameras cut to the action going on in the parking lot. Both Glenn Gilberti and Johnny Swinger were beating the heck out of Pat Kenney. While an unconscious Kenney lay on the pavement, Swinger and Gilberti went so far as to pour Irish beer on him as well as 2 buckets of green paint.
Hudson was standing by with former Director of Authority, Erik Watts. Watts thanked TNA for giving him a job back and he warned Abyss that it wasn’t a good idea to get involved in a domestic dispute.
Erik Watts vs. Abyss
Erik Watts came to the ring as a man with nothing to lose. He lost his woman and everything he had. Knowing that he was going to face a monster in Abyss, he brought his bat to the ring with him and snuck up on him from behind to start the match. After getting in a couple shots that would make Barry Bonds proud, Abyss managed to grab the bat away from Watts. Fortunately for Erik, the referee snatched the bat from Abyss before he could do any harm with it.
Both of these titans battled for the next couple of minutes till Watts went back for his bat. Goldylocks realized what her old boyfriend was going to do and ran to the ring and grabbed the bat away from Watts. With all his attention on his ex, Abyss got the opportunity he needed to give Watts a Black Hole Slam for the win. After the match Watts went to chokeslam Goldylocks, but Abyss was there to make the save. The monster, Abyss then went for his chain and began to choke the life out of Watts with a pleased Goldylocks yelling on. TNA Security tried to break up the action, but Abyss manhandled them. Watts eventually made his way back to his feet and got the bat back for a couple more grand slam swings on Abyss.
Scott Hudson was standing by with a celebratory Armando Contero from AAA and La Parka. Both were excited about the upcoming World X Cup and the fact that today was Cinco de Mayo. Raven interrupted the two of them and said that nobody cared about La Parka or Cinco de Mayo. People cared more about his title shot tonight. He then attacked La Parka and began to stomp on him.
Raven vs. AJ Styles (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
It was time to see if Raven would fulfill his destiny or if AJ could successfully defend the NWA Heavyweight Championship 2 weeks in a row. AJ had proven that he is not afraid of a challenge and was ready to fight. Raven, on the other hand, is a 16 year veteran of the squared circle and was one step away from realizing his dream. It was the third week in a row that AJ was in a title match. Raven hoped this eventually would take its toll on the Phenomenal One and lead to a win, pitting Raven as the 5th NWA Champion in TNA’s 2 year history.
Both men fought incredibly hard and exchanged some viscous shots to the body. Raven thought he had a trick up his sleeve by pulling out a pill case full of powder. Fortunately for AJ, he got his hands on the powder first and tried throwing it in Raven’s face. Raven got a kick to AJ’s chin which sent the powder in both their faces. While Raven was trying to get his vision back, he mistakenly took the referee and Evenflowed him through a chair that was set in the middle of the ring.
Raven then used the chair to hit Styles and knocked him to the ground. The referee was still out and was unable count the 1 2 3 on Styles. La Parka then made his way to the ring and landed viscous DDT on Raven. This gave Styles the opportunity to put Raven in the Styles Clash which eventually got him the win.
After the commotion, Raven looked at La Parka in disbelief. La Parka then pulled his mask off revealing that it was actually Chris Harris. Harris then attacked Raven in a Fury and James Storm ran in to help him. The locker room emptied and everyone came down to the ring to separate the three of them. Russo came down and grabbed the microphone. He told Harris that he was out of line, but Harris didn’t care and demanded that he get a shot that he deserved 2 weeks ago against Jeff Jarrett. He wanted AJ in the ring next week for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. AJ told him that all he needed to do was ask and the Champ would have accepted. This set up next week’s main event for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. The fighting champion, AJ Styles vs. a very deserving Chris Harris. You don’t want to miss this one!
