NWA TNA PPV Results - 9/1/04 Location: Nashville, TN Commentators: Mike Tenay & Don West Report by: Chris “The Authority” Schultz of TNAwrestling.com
Tonight’s show started off with the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett, making his way down to the ring with just one week left before his title defense against Jeff Hardy. Jarrett stated that is was The Stroke vs. The Swanton, The King of the Mountain vs. The Charismatic Enigma, and the Figure 4 vs. ?. Jarrett went on to say how Jeff Hardy does not have an answer to that move. In closing, Jarrett went on to say that he is going to put TNA on Victory Road and left Hardy with just one piece of advice. Be very careful about who you can trust!
Cameras then shifted to the back where Scott Hudson was standing by with a very mean looking Kid Kash and Dallas. Kash told Hudson that he hated AJ Styles and that TNA better leave the straight jacket on him tonight. Dallas went on to add that when it was all said and done, they are going leave the Asylum with 2 pieces of dead meat.
Triple X vs. America’s Most Wanted vs. The Naturals for the NWA Tag Team Titles Tonight that NWA Tag Team Titles were on the line in a 3 Way Dance that was devised by NWA Championship Committee member, Larry Zbysko. Former tag team champions, AMW and Triple X would get a shot at winning back to gold from current champions, The Naturals. However, they would have to get past each other first. While both AMW and Triple X were out to prove that they are the best tag team in TNA history, Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens were trying to stay on top of TNA and keep the belts around their waist.
Chris Harris, James Storm, Christopher Daniels, and Elix Skipper wasted no time going after the champs, as all 4 of them went right to work on them before the bell even sounded. After regaining their composure, the Naturals took the early advantage and seemed to have things going their way. All it took was one moment that the Naturals could use to steal the victory. That moment came when the Fallen Angel hit his Angel’s Wings on James Storm. After seeing this, Douglas and Stevens knocked Daniels out of the way and made the cover to successfully hold on to their coveted tag team titles.
Back in the locker room area, Scott Hudson was standing by with Director of Authority, Vince Russo. Russo said he was excited about next week’s title match and the return of The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes. He even went on to say that he thinks Jeff Hardy will become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion after all is said and done. He said as far as the NWA Tag Team Titles go, the championship committee will have to decide who will get the next shot at the belts. He concluded by saying that Jeff Jarrett is the master manipulator.
Kazarian and Michael Shane vs. Amazing Red and Chris Sabin Lately, Michael Shane and Kazarian have been claiming that they are the best tag team in the X Division here in TNA. Having said this, Amazing Red and Chris Sabin were out to prove that this was a bunch of bull. Recently, Red and Sabin have been competing together in TNA and seem to have a great chemistry with each other and it was time to prove that they are better than the self proclaimed best tag team in the X Division. All 4 of the competitors in this match have held the X Division title at one time or another in their respective careers which made this a very unique matchup.
Although Chris Sabin and the 22 year old Red worked well together, it wouldn’t be their night. Traci became involved in the match towards the end and got the attention of Red for a split second, but that’s all it took. Michael Shane took this advantage to catch Red with his Superkick, thus giving him and Kazarian the victory.
Scott Hudson was standing by with Scott D’Amore and Team Canada. D’Amore told Russo that he bought himself one night of peace, but as soon as Dusty comes back, his trouble will start all over again. D’Amore also exclaimed that the captain of Team Canada, Petey Williams, is the best X Division Champion of all time. After getting the team fired up, they all left singing the Canadian National Anthem.
Sonjay Dutt vs. Petey Williams X Division Title Match After pulling of the huge victory over Sabin, Cross, and Mathews last week, The Original Playa from the Himalaya, got his chance to take on Canadian Petey Williams for the X Division Title. Dutt was ready to put his Hindu Press up against what might be the most destructive move in all of professional wrestling today, The Canadian Destroyer. The match got off to a fast paced start, with neither man able to take the edge.
Towards the end of the match, Sonjay Dutt came close many times to getting the 3 count and becoming champion, but Williams just kept kicking out. What might come as no shock to any of you, Scott D’Amore also became involved in the match by distracting the referee’s attention while Dutt seemed to have victory in his grasp. Williams then snuck up on a helpless Dutt and hit him with the Canadian Destroyer to retain his title and win the match.
Cameras then shifted again to the back where Hudson was standing by with BG James and Konnan of the 3 Live Kru. B Gizzle gave a shout out to their friend Dusty Rhodes who they wished were there tonight. K-Dawg then went nuts and said that tonight was the beginning of D’Amore’s American nightmare. He then went on to scream that Vince Russo will pay!
Team Canada vs. 3 Live Kru and Mystery Opponent While we knew that Team Canada consisted of Showtime Eric Young, Johnny Devine, and Bobby Roode, we didn’t know who the 3rd member of the 3 Live Kru would be going into this match. BG James got the microphone before the start of the match and revealed that their mystery partner was The Midnight Rider! Just then a person that had the size and build of Dusty Rhodes came out with a mask and a black cape. Russo was in the back and couldn’t believe what he was witnessing on the monitor.
D’Amore and Team Canada were furious, yelling to the referee and the announcers that it was Dusty Rhodes behind the mask, but the referee ordered the match to start. Scott D’Amore tried to get involved for the second time this evening in this match, but was cut off by the Midnight Rider with some elbows to the head. Then the Midnight Rider dropped a huge elbow on Devine to get the win! Russo then made his way to the ring to find out what was going on, but the Midnight Rider vanished through the crowd.
The always busy Scott Hudson then tracked down Goldylocks, who had just locked Sharkboy and D-Ray 3000 in a cage. She then noticed Abyss standing right next to her and she started praising him and telling him that he’s always been her favorite. Knowing that she needed the big man to take care of business tonight, she continued to share nice words with the monster from the deep. However, Baby Bear Alex Shelley wasn’t so kind to him and told Abyss not to screw up again tonight or he would answer to him.
Baby Bear Alex Shelley and Abyss vs. Erik Watts and Sonny Siaki w/ Desire This match was labeled as an Emancipation Match. Last week, Desire brought in La Park to try and free Sonny Siaki from Goldylock’s grasp. La Park got the victory and then pulled of his mask, where fans saw that La Park actually turned out to be Erik Watts, whose contract had just expired in early August with TNA. After freeing Siaki, Watts promised that he and The Ace in the Hole would free the rest of contracts that Goldylocks laid claim to.
D-Ray 3000 and Sharkboy had to be rooting on the former DOA and Siaki from whatever cage they were locked in from the back. Watts and Siaki seemed to be ready for the challenge and came out fired up taking the early advantage over Shelley and the Monster, Abyss. Goldylocks thought she would get involved again to save her little stable, but Desire ran in to pull her out of the ring. Desire then got sprayed in the eyes with a bottle of mace which Goldy used to blind her. Just as she was about to do the same to Siaki, Erik Watt’s wife came into the ring and got her piece of revenge on Goldylocks by beating her senseless in the middle of the ring. Sonny Siaki then got the pin on Alex Shelley, thus freeing D-Ray and Sharkboy of Goldylocks.
Scott Hudson was standing by with “The Alpha Male” Monty Brown. Brown told Hudson that he hunted alone. He said Jeff Jarrett is a liar, but he tells the truth when he said that I will get the next title shot. He then went on to tell Vince Russo that he is more than ready for the title to be around his waist and that DOA meant nothing but Dead on Arrival to him.
Dusty Rhodes was then shown coming through the crowd holding a ticket. Vince Russo came to ringside and confronted the American Dream. He asked Rhodes what he should do. Dusty said he wanted Scott D’Amore next week, one on one. Vince Russo said he would do that if both 3 Live Kru and Team Canada were barred from ringside and if Dusty Rhodes walks away from TNA in the event he loses to D’Amore. Dusty agreed and then Vince made it know that he would be the special guest referee in the match.
In Hudson’s final interview of the night, he stood by with AJ Styles and “The Truth” Ron Killings. Styles aid that once he was done with Kid Kash tonight, he is coming back for his X Title. He then told Petey Williams that he’s been warned. Killings went on to comment about next week’s title match and said that Jeff Hardy will become the next NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Kid Kash and Dallas vs. AJ Styles and The Truth in an Asylum Street Fight This match was not for the weak at heart as both teams pounded on each other all over the Asylum. There were chairs flying everywhere with bodies hitting concrete floors. Although Styles and Killings were former NWA World Champions, Kid Kash and Dallas seemed to have the edge, having worked with each other as a team many times previous to this encounter. The Notorious K-I-D got all the fans at ringside fired up as he continually put a beating on both Styles and Killings with the help of his family member, Dallas.
The match went back and forth, with each team trying to inflict more pain on the other till one breaks. It took an axe kick from the top rope by Killings on Kash to finally get the victory, but the celebration was short as Team Canada hit the ring and began to work on a helpless AJ and Truth. Kash and Dallas both got back to their feet to help in the beat down. Kid Kash sent AJ Styles crashing through a table on the outside using his famous hurricanrana. Then, from the back, Jeff Hardy emerged onto the scene with a steel chair and sent everyone crashing to the canvas floor after having a taste of steel. Jeff Jarrett came out to put an end to this and got Hardy in the figure four leg lock, which to everyone’s surprise, Hardy reversed. Next week, we will see these two go one on one for the most coveted prize in this sport, The NWA World Heavyweight Title! Don’t Miss It!
