Welcome to the last Raw before WM 20, where it all begins, again

Raw starts with ominous music playing and there is a casket in the middle of the ring, still covered in dirt and worms. Kane is watching on a monitor in the back and is disgusted and walks away. Flames shoot out of the ramp and here comes Kane walking to the ring. He cautiously walks into the ring with a kind of freaked out look on his face. As soon as he enters the ring, the spooky music starts up again. Kane walks up to the casket and knocks the casket over. The casket is opened and there is an urn lying inside. Kane goes ballistic and throws the casket over the top rope piece by piece. Kane now grabs a microphone and cuts a promo recapping the last few weeks with his messages from the Undertaker. Kane throws the urn towards the broken casket. Kane vows to end the Undertaker’s streak and career at WM 20. The lights go out and the old school Undertaker music plays. A corner of the ring is lifted off of the ground. The ring drops down and another corner rises. The ring is bouncing up and down like an impala, as another message on the big screen saying it all begins again and Kane has a scared look on his face

Commercial

JR and the King mention tonight’s “This is your life” segment that the Rock is going to do with Mick Foley tonight.

La Resistance and Jindrak and Cade are in the ring as it sets up tonight’s first match

8 man tag match
La Resistance & Jindrak and Cade vs. RVD & Booker T & Dudley Boys

Conway and Bubba Ray to start this match off tonight. Conway tags in Rene Dupree and after some light action, Bubba Ray tags in RVD. RVD is taking the young Dupree to school until Dupree takes control in the corner. Dupree tags in Garrison Cade and works over RVD’s shoulder. Cade tags in Jindrak and we see more work on the left shoulder of RVD. RVD breaks free after a while and tags in Booker T. He’s hitting everything that moves and he gets a two count on Jindrak. The heels break up the count and now everyone is fighting on the outside. Booker T is now in control and is set to hit the scissors kick but gets knocked in the back on the apron by Cade. Booker T turns around and Jindrak hits a flying forearm and gets the pinfall for the victory

Winners: La Resistance & Jindrak and Cade

Jericho is backstage and is talking to Trish on a cell phone and before he can tell Trish want he wants to say, he gets jumped from behind by Christian. Christian takes the phone and tells Trish that Jericho is now in the same position that Trish is used to, flat on her back. Christian throws the phone down at Jericho who is still in pain

Commercial

A promo for the WWE Title match at WM 20 is played with Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle.

We get to see a “during the break” recap of Christian leaving the building and into a waiting car and is seen driving away

JR and the King start to recap what happened in the last match but the King gets a pizza delivered to him. Apparently, the pizza boxes in the US have the WM logo on the box. (That’s kind of cool) Anyways, JR sends us to an interview with the tag champs

Booker T says that they will walk out of WM 20, now can you dig that sucka…..

We see a quick recap of the last this is your life segment

Rock is seen walking backstage and walks into the Hurricane and Rosey. Hurricane reminds the Rock that the last time they met, Hurricane won the match. They both do a little chit-chat and it turns out that Rosey and Hurricane saw Walking Tall and they both liked it. Actually, Rosey went to get snacks and got lost and walked into Confessions of a Drama queen or something like that. Rock wishes them luck in their handicap match against Evolution tonight. Coach walks up to the rock and accuses Rock of using the Coach look. Rock makes short work in making fun of Coach.

Commercial

Evolution is already in the ring as we come back from commercial (everyone except the world champ). Next out is the team of Hurricane and Rosey

Evolution (IC Champ Randy Orton, Batista, Ric Flair) vs. Rosey and Hurricane

Let’s just say that Flair and Hurricane started and after a quick tag to Orton then a quick tag to Batista, this match is over. Batista power bombed Hurricane to get the victory and then all 3 evolution members dispose of Rosey. Orton grabs the mic and starts to run down the Rock & Sock connection. Orton says that there’s no way to stop Evolution.

Winners: Evolution

Commercial

JR & the King intro a nice video package recapping last week’s events regarding HBK and Chris Benoit and their match with Evolution last week.

Whatever by OLP hits the speakers and out comes the #1 contender for the World Title, Chris Benoit.

Chris Benoit vs. Matt Hardy Version 1.0

Hardy gets in Benoit’s face, so Benoit knocks him on his ass. Benoit is now giving Hardy some suplexes for his troubles and Hardy rolls to the outside. Hardy mounts little offense before Benoit hits 3 successive German suplexes followed by the Crippler Cross face for the submission victory

Winner: Chris Benoit

The King dares JR to interview Benoit in the ring, JR agrees as we go to commercial

Commercial

JR is in the ring with microphone in hand and he asks Benoit what is going on inside his head. Benoit cuts a good, intense promo about his match at WM 20. Before Benoit can get going in his promo, out comes HBK Shawn Michaels. HBK respects Benoit and says that he has a 10 yr grudge and it will end with HBK winning the belt. HBK wishes Benoit good luck and they shake hands. Out comes HHH and he cuts a promo on both Benoit and HBK and the match next Sunday at WM 20. Nothing new here and this segment is dragging. HHH says that Benoit’s ego will not let HBK win and vice versa, I suppose he is planting the seeds of mistrust here

Commercial

Mick Foley walks down the hallway backstage and bumps into Spike Dudley. Mick admits to Spike that he is nervous but excited about the whole “this is your life” segment

Lita walks down the ring to set up our next match

Lita vs. Molly Holly

Molly is being very aggressive here in the early going using a lot of hair pulls and headlocks. Lita now in control and hits a nice reverse twist of fate for a 2 count. Molly uses a reverse rollup and grabs the rope for leverage to get the 3 count.

Winner: Molly Holly

Molly goes nuts on Lita after until Victoria runs down to make the save. JR and the King mention that Stone Cold is up next

Commercial

JR and King introduce a nice video package recapping the events between Lesnar/Goldberg/Austin starting at the Royal Rumble

The sound of glass breaks hits and here comes Austin walking out to the ring. Austin gets a beer and grabs the mic as well. Austin cuts a promo on both Lesnar and Goldberg and is going to open a can of you know what if they get in Austin’s face. Austin says that he is going to Smackdown this week to get his ATV back. Austin dares anyone on Smackdown to stop him; he also says that no one in the Raw locker room could stop him either. (Translation: Don’t get in Austin’s way)

Commercial

The countdown clock ticks down to zero and here comes Y2J for our next match

Y2J Chris Jericho vs. Steven Richards

Jericho is on the aggressive offensive making short work of Richards. Y2J loses the control as he goes shoulder first into the ring post. Y2J is now in a painful arm bar but fights his way out of it. Y2J looking like the lion heart of old as he tries to hit the lion-sault, but sees Richards roll out of the way so he lands on his feet. Y2J gets Richards in the Walls of Jericho when all of a sudden Trish’s music starts. Jericho puts down Richards and out comes Christian. Richards regroups and rolls up Y2J for the victory. Christian badmouths Y2J from the top of the ramp before he leaves. Y2J snaps and beats the crap out of Richards on the outside of the ring

Winner: Steven Richards

Hall of Fame package showing brief clips of the 11 members of the 2004 class

Commercial

A brief promo highlighting the Lesnar Goldberg match with Austin as the special guest referee plays

Here we go folks; The Rock is coming down to the ring. The ring has got the red carpet on it and this is the last segment of the night so anything can happen. Rock hits his “finally” line and the crowd loves it. He says that Evolution took away Foley’s smile and the Rock is going to get it back tonight. Foley comes out to the ring and here we go. Confetti starts to fall from the rafters. Our first clip is when Foley jumped off his roof in the mid-eighties. Our first guest is actually Mrs. Snyder, who is like at least in her eighties now. It was her house that Mick jumped off of. A two minute segment goes on about “pie” and it’s too funny to type here. The second clip is of Snuka’s infamous Cage match at MSG. Our second guest is none other than WWE Hall of Fame member, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. (One of my personal favourites as well) Mick actually invites Snuka to WM 20 and he accepts. Snuka and Mrs. Snyder stretch the “pie” joke, so they both leave.
The third clip is a photo of Mick’s first book. The third guest is the first person to critic “Have a nice day”. He apparently gave the book a terrible review. Rock explains that he brought him out to show that the critics are wrong. This is Mick’s life, and at WM 20, Evolution is going to get their ass kicked is you smell………and here comes Batista. Orton and Flair run out from the back. Evolution plays the numbers game and leaves the Rock and Sock Connection laying in confetti to end the show

Quick Results

La Resistance & Jindrak and Cade defeat RVD & Booker T & Dudley Boys by pinfall

Evolution (Randy Orton, Batista, Ric Flair) defeat Rosey and Hurricane by pinfall

Chris Benoit defeats Matt Hardy by Submission

Molly Holly defeats Lita by pinfall

Steven Richards defeats Y2J Chris Jericho by pinfall

Thoughts

It’s good to see RVD and Booker T come out together like champs.

Matches tonight were on the short side.

The promos were long and predictable.

All the Raw matches look decent.

I think Benoit’s theme music is the best WWE entrance.

WM 20 is going to be a great one.

Thoughts are always welcome at raw@wrestleview.com

Thanks for reading
