“Yes, sir, we promised you a great main event…” The WWE video leads us into the show.
We open the show up with a video recap of the World Heavyweight Championship Match at Night of Champions. If you haven’t heard by now, Jeff Hardy shocked the world and defeated CM Punk for the championship. This was a well done video package.
Justin Roberts now introduces the new World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy, who comes out to a tremendous applause. Jim Ross and Todd Grisham welcome us to the show. Tonight Jeff Hardy will make his first World Heavyweight Title defense against John Morrison. They show exclusive footage from after Night of Champions, when CM Punk shook the new champion’s hand as a sign of respect.
Hardy says if this is a dream then don’t wake him up because he’s just chillin’ in the imag-i-nation, kicking it Jeff Hardy style, the new World Heavyweight Champion. Hardy says he’s not dreaming. Hardy thanks all the outcasts, rejects, freaks, and all the people who stood with him through thick and thin, and always believed in what he stands for.
Hardy mentions that before Night of Champions, CM Punk said some pretty rotten things to him and the audience. Hardy says that we’re all with him in just saying “no” to being force fed his point of view. The fact is if everyone in the world was just like CM Punk, it’d be a boring world. They’re both different, and that’s why this life is cool. The only thing Hardy is high on is being World Heavyweight Champion for us. Hardy says he was born a free spirit and has beat to his own drum ever since. He’s human, we’re human, and we have the god given right to live life the way we choose, and be who we want to be.
Hardy says Teddy Long has given CM Punk his rematch anytime he wants it against whoever is the champion at that current time. The reason he brings that up is his opponent tonight is one of the most talented guys he’s ever been in the ring with. He shines like no other and that man is John Morrison. Hardy says last time his title reign was way too short and he doesn’t plan on that happening again. Hardy knows he’s in for a fight and warns Baltimore to be ready. Morrison has beaten CM Punk twice and we might be in for one of the most breathtaking, amazing, death-defying main events in Smackdown history! Hardy thanks the crowd.
Cryme Tyme’s music hits and they make their way down to the ring. They high five Jeff Hardy and raise his arms with the World Heavyweight Championship. Cryme Tyme will be in action, next.
The WWE Smack of the Night is Shaquille O’Neal as Raw’s Guest Host and him pushing Big Show down.

Kidd then dropkicks Shad in the knee from behind.
Kidd hits a leg breaker and locks on a leg bar. Kidd drops a knee on the injured leg and sets it up on the bottom rope. Kidd attempts to spring over the top rope to stomp on it but loses his balance, yet is able to save himself and stay on the apron. Kidd then pulls his leg over the apron and slams it off that. Shad rolls out of the ring and Kidd gets back in. Kidd tags in David Hart Smith, who quickly goes to the outside and whips Shad into the ring steps. Shad clutches his leg in pain as we go to a break.
We come back from the break to see Smith pulling Shad away from his corner, preventing the tag. Smith continues stomping at the leg. Hart gets a single leg takedown and locks on a nice single leg crab. Hart really has it locked on well, stepping on the back of Shad’s head. Cryme Tyme celebrates big time in the ring before they’re interrupted by the Unified Tag Team Champion Big Show and Chris Jericho. Their theme songs are mixed in together. Show is wearing a suit with a vest as well and looks… strange. Jericho tells Cryme Tyme to enjoy their moment and congratulates them but lets them know it all goes downhill from here. Jericho says he can see in their faces that they’re riding high being so close to achieving their childhood dreams of being WWE Tag Team Champions. However, just like us failures, they’re going to fall short of their goals as well because they’re going to destroy their hopes and dreams. What Cryme Tyme fails to realize is that they’re dealing with the most powerful duo in sports today. They have a combined forty titles between them. Jericho asks if they realize how great they are. They’re the perfect synergy of strength, agility, intelligence, ruthlessness, and honesty.
Shad cuts them off and says what they’re looking at is Han Solo and Chewbacca. Shad says he can speak wookie and does a Chewbacca impression while doing Big Show’s taunts. Jericho apologizes and asks if they think this is some kind of joke. Jericho says this is no joke. JTG says the joke is that when Shaq is around Jericho didn’t have too much to say, and calls him “Christina.” JTG then blows Jericho a kiss from Shaq. Ok, strange. JTG then calls Big Show “fat boy” and says that he didn’t have too much to say either because Shaq knocked him down on his flat back. JTG says all jokes aside, at Summerslam they’re going to be the ones knocking them down. Shad says at Summerslam they’ll be leaving with the WWE Tag Team Championships around their waists.
Big Show says the only reason they’re running their mouths like this is because they’re allowing them to do so. Their credentials already surpass the greatest tag teams in history. Big Show says he and Jericho are used to being champions and having gold around their waists. Jericho is a former five time world champion and the greatest all around performer the industry has ever seen. Big Show is the only one in history to have ever held the WWE, WCW, and ECW Championship. Not only that, but he’s a giant, which means he’s bigger and better than all of us. Jericho says for them to enjoy their party with all us criminals because at Summerslam the party is over.
Still to come tonight is Rey Mysterio and Finlay taking on Dolph Ziggler and Mike Knox.
They build up our Main Event for tonight which is Jeff Hardy vs. John Morrison for the World Heavyweight Championship.

McCool locks a chin lock on now and keeps Eve grounded. Eve fights up and counters out with a jawbreaker. Both Divas make the tag and Melina comes in clotheslining Layla down twice. Melina has a whip to the corner reversed on her but she’s able to slingshot over Layla. Melina hits a flapjack followed by a running split kick. Melina goes for the Primal Scream but Michelle McCool comes in and kicks Melina in the face. Eve runs in and dropkicks her out of the ring. McCool then kicks her in the face on the outside. McCool gets tagged back in and kicks Melina again. McCool goes for the Faith Breaker but Melina counters into her Code Red move and gets the surprise win!

Punk says he doesn’t respect anyone who lives that lifestyle. This isn’t Punk being “preachy,” this is just him stating facts. Punk says he wishes everyone could be straightedge. Hardy has said he likes to live in the moment so Punk tells him to enjoy the moment because it won’t last very long. Punk has a lot of fans he’d like to thank and he won’t let them down. Match of the Night: Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk *** ¾
Wow, what an edition of Friday Night Smackdown! This may be the best Smackdown of the year! We had a tremendous World Heavyweight Title contest and CM Punk’s full blown heel turn!
What a World Heavyweight Championship Match! Jeff Hardy and John Morrison both looked tremendous in this one. Morrison got the rocket permanently strapped to his back now. Morrison even kicked out of the Swanton Bomb, something I don’t recall ever seeing. This match got me really excited, partly because I didn’t even expect Jeff Hardy to be on the show this week. I was convinced that last week was his last Smackdown. Now he’s our World Heavyweight Champion and he’s a fighting champion. He’ll have his second defense next week!
Now onto CM Punk’s full blown heel turn. Punk was tremendous in this one. I kind of knew he’d attack Hardy but I figured we’d at least get the promo first. Instead Punk faked me out and hit him right away with the microphone and flat out assaulted him! We even got our first sight of blood in a while. I’m so excited to see Smackdown next week it’s not even funny. Smackdown is strong heading into the road to Summerslam.
Nice to see Rey Mysterio and Dolph Ziggler lock horns once again, along with Finlay and Mike Knox. Mysterio and Ziggler had a great match on Sunday which did nothing but elevate Ziggler. He really hung in there with Mysterio and he did the same tonight. Mike Knox also looked good here. This was a big improvement since being squashed by Khali last week. Finlay, as always, was crisp here. This was a fun tag match.
Speaking of fun tag matches, Cryme Tyme and the Hart Dynasty had another one tonight. These teams mesh so well and I wish it was both of them going to Summerslam to face Jericho and Show but for now it’s only Cryme Tyme. Cryme Tyme then had a great promo segment with Jericho and Show after the match. It’s a great pairing between these two, and I’d just like to call I’m the only one from the faculty who called that right! Finally got my Gold Star!
The Divas had a pretty good tag match tonight. I’d be remiss if I didn’t state that Michelle McCool and Melina had one of the best Divas matches I’ve seen in a long, long time. What a great match that was. It’s a shame about the possible injury that I heard about to Michelle McCool at a house show. I hope it’s nothing serious. The Diva division will be in trouble if she goes down.
Why are Kane and Great Khali still feuding? Why?
