“Yes, sir, we promised you a great main event…” The WWE video leads us into the show.
We open up with Todd Grisham and Matt Striker sadly talking about Rey Mysterio’s public humiliation at the hands of CM Punk. We then see a video of what happened last week. Mysterio’s little girl played the part perfectly. The S.E.S. came out and interrupted the Mysterio family as they were celebrating the daughter’s birthday in the ring. Punk laid down a challenge for WrestleMania. Mysterio didn’t respond so Punk slapped him and called him a coward.
Rey Mysterio’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Mysterio stands in the ring sadly as the fans chant “619”. Mysterio says he hasn’t had a moment of peace for the last week. Every time he closes his eyes he can see his daughter crying. He sees his wife and son looking at him, putting the weight of the world on his shoulders because of one person: CM Punk. Mysterio says he’s climbed a lot of mountains – he’s taken beating, won titles, been embarrassed and afraid. But CM Punk crossed a line that should never be crossed. This goes beyond his brain-washing of the S.E.S. and his never ending stream of lies. CM Punk last week challenged him to a match at WrestleMania and he accepts the challenge. It’s not just going to be any match, though. He doesn’t just want to compete against him. He wants Punk at WrestleMania in a Street Fight. What Punk needs is to learn a lesson – you never mess with another man’s family.
CM Punk’s music hits and he comes out with the Straight Edge Society. Punk mentions that Mysterio is a bit emotional. Punk stays on top of the stage to create distance. Punk says last week Mysterio showed the WWE Universe and his family that he’s a coward. Mysterio angrily tells him to not mention his family. Punk says he knows he’s filled with hatred and rage but that’s no way to solve any of his problems.
Mysterio says Punk has no idea what he’s feeling inside. Mysterio says he has to be human to understand what he feels and Punk isn’t human. Punk is a monster. Mysterio says there’s no reason for him not to walk up the ramp and give him the beating he should have last week. Punk says if he does there won’t be a WrestleMania match. If Mysterio puts one finger on him before WrestleMania then the match is off.
Punk says he came out to say he sees a lot of potential in him if Mysterio would just see the straight edge inside himself. Punk says Mysterio has been on an emotional rollercoaster with his family but so has Punk. The only difference is he doesn’t need to shut his eyes to see Aliyah’s crying face. Punk has pictures to remember. Punk then shows pictures from last week. This segment is awesome. Mysterio looks more and more intense as each picture passes of his daughter and family looking upset. Punk calls Mysterio a coward but says last week showed that he can save him. Punk says Mysterio should accept him as his savior so he can be the father his family needs. Mysterio says they’re nothing alike. Punk says he knows because he’s straight edge and he’s better than him. Punk tells him to join the Straight Edge Society.
Mysterio says Punk is out of his mind. That will never happen. If Punk wouldn’t accept Mysterio’s challenge for the Street Fight at WrestleMania, he’ll have to fight him every day for the rest of their lives. Mysterio asks yes or no. Punk says he’s got a stipulation of his own. If Mysterio can beat Luke Gallows he’ll get the Street Fight. If Mysterio loses and loses at WrestleMania then he must join the Straight Edge Society. Mysterio will have to accept him as his savior on the grandest stage of them all. Once Mysterio is saved then he can forget last week’s moment ever happened. Mysterio says that’s an image he’ll always remember. Tonight he’ll beat Luke Gallows as he’s done before and make sure that Punk never forgets the beating that he gives him at WrestleMania. Mysterio ends it by saying, “May God have mercy on your soul.” That may be the best promo Mysterio has ever done.
WrestleMania is nine days away! These nine days are going to go by so slowly…
The Money in the Bank briefcase is seen hanging over the ring.
MVP & Matt Hardy vs. Jack Swagger & Dolph Ziggler

Match Rating: * ½
As Swagger turns his back on the ramp Ziggler runs back to the ring. Ziggler gets a 20 foot ladder and sets it up under the briefcase. Ziggler climbs up and grabs the briefcase. He poses at the top of the ladder and he looks good. I’ve predicted a big year for him and my prediction is looking good.
We see footage of Edge on Jericho’s Highlight Reel last week. Edge taunted him about constantly hitting him with the Spear. Jericho claims that Edge is still injured. Edge says he’ll hit him with the Spear and make him an ex-champion. Jericho assaulted him but Edge came back. Edge looked for a Spear but Jericho instead clocked him with the championship. That sounded nasty. Jericho then angrily chanted Spear.
Tonight we’ll see Chris Jericho be the guest on the Cutting Edge.
Vince McMahon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is shown.
Drew McIntyre comes into Teddy Long’s office. Long says he’s impressed that he’s still technically undefeated. Long mentions the losses to Kane and Matt Hardy were expunged. Long says last week he qualified for Money in the Bank but he had to do it against Mr. McMahon’s handpicked opponent – a nobody. Long says McIntyre has been undefeated his entire career… until tonight. Long was thinking about a match, one involving undefeated streaks… like at WrestleMania (17-0). Long says he tried calling Mr. McMahon but only got his voicemail. Long says tonight McIntyre will go one on one with the Undertaker!
The Smack of the Night is Tiffany getting beat up by Michelle McCool and Simply Flawless until Beth Phoenix made the save. Beth even hit a clothesline on Vickie Guerrero!
Simply Flawless is already in the ring. They’re wearing shirts that say “Glam-a-man?” Clever…

Tiffany is tagged in and she hits a cross-body for a two count. Tiffany hits a pair of back elbows. Tiffany hits a suplex for a one count. Tiffany hits some forearm and sends her to the corner. Tiffany tries for a monkey flip but Layla throws her to the apron. Layla hits a kick and Tiffany surprises her with a stunner on the top rope. McCool lays her out at ringside as the referee is distracted. That gets Layla a one count.
McCool is tagged in and hits a big clothesline. McCool applies a neck vice and drives some knees into the face. McCool slams her down and bounces her head off the mat. McCool misses a leg drop and Beth is tagged in. Beth hits a clothesline and a back body drop. Beth knocks her down and hits a nice delayed vertical slingshot suplex for a one count interrupted by Layla. Layla is pressed up until McCool kicks her. McCool goes for the Faith Breaker but Beth gets out and drives her into the ropes. Beth hits the Glam Slam for the win over the Women’s Champion!
Winners by Pinfall: Beth Phoenix & Tiffany
Match Rating: * ½
EXCUSE ME! Vickie Guerrero tells Tiffany to go to the back because Beth Phoenix owes her an apology. Vickie comes to the ring and Beth says she already did. Vickie says that wasn’t good enough. She wants an apology in front of everyone. Vickie is wearing a necklace that says “Cougar.” Beth says she was wrong to put her hands on an authority figure and apologizes. Vickie says that’s unacceptable and says Beth will always regret the day she laid her hands on her. Vickie says she’s the official consultant of Smackdown AND her boss. Vickie is more superior than her in every way. Next week Beth Phoenix will be in a match one on one with her!
The Cutting Edge is next with Chris Jericho as the guest.
Matt Striker thanks Kevin Rudolf for the use of “I Made It,” an official theme song of WrestleMania. Kevin Rudolf is shown at ringside. He looks like a total tool.
The Cutting Edge
Edge makes his way to the ring for his first Cutting Edge in a while. Edge says last week he was on the Highlight Reel so he thought he’d return the favor by having Chris Jericho on the Cutting Edge. Edge introduces the World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho.
Chris Jericho comes to the ring with Wade Barrett. Edge welcomes him and comments that Jericho and Barrett look like they’re going to the prom. Edge says that’s well played and that’s what’s come down between them. Edge says they’re playing chess. Edge mentions that last week he was hit with the title and on Raw he got him back with a Spear. Edge says he always thinks a few moves ahead and he’s looking at WrestleMania when he’s going to hit a big move (Spear).
Jericho says he’s wrong by boiling their match down to one move. Jericho says there’s so many other factors and variables involved. First of all he’s the World Heavyweight Champion, which means he’s the best in the world at what he does. Secondly it’s WrestleMania – Jericho questions if Edge can live up to the hype. The third variable is Edge being hurt. Jericho asks if he really thinks he can get by with a little luck. The sound of 70,000 hypocrites chanting “Spear” will not help him if he is not physically healed. Jericho says he saw him tear his Achilles by taking one step in a freak accident. Jericho asks what would happen if he deliberately tore it. Jericho mentions that David Beckham has the same injury and his career is over. Jericho says if he does it a second time then his career will be over too.
Edge says he may have come back too soon. There’s a good chance that he is but Jericho doesn’t know – no one does. There’s only one way to find out. Edge tells him to make the move and go for checkmate. Jericho looks a bit tepid so Edge does it for him. Edge punches him and wails on Barrett. Jericho chop blocks the knee and they double team him. Edge fights back and throws Jericho out of the ring. Edge hits a huge Spear on Wade Barrett before turning into a Codebreaker! Jericho stands over him and looks at the ankle. Jericho stalls and then stomps on it. Jericho takes the microphone and whispers “Spear.” Jericho holds the title up over Edge as we go to commercial.
Our main event is Undertaker taking on Drew McIntyre. Matt Striker quotes 1989 Batman – “Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?”
The Hart Dynasty is already in the ring. They’re jobbed out once again with no TV entrance.

Oh boy – it’s time for Cryme Tyme’s Word Up. The Word of the Day is Slim Jim Show Down. Apparently if you eat a Slim Jim and text the picture to the company you can win some prizes. I remember when Cryme Tyme was over…

The stipulation at WrestleMania is if Rey Mysterio loses to CM Punk he must accept Straight Edge. Rey Mysterio viciously assaults Luke Gallows after the match. Mysterio throws him over the announcer’s table and beats on him as CM Punk and Serena sit on the apron watching. Mysterio looks at him wishing he could attack Punk, but the trick is he can’t touch Punk until WrestleMania or the match is off. Mysterio then continues to beat on Gallows until the referee convinces him to stop. Punk and Serena tend to Gallows as Mysterio leaves. That was awesome.
We’ll see Undertaker take on Drew McIntyre later tonight.
The Raw Rebound airs. The announcers then run down the amazing card of WrestleMania XXVI.

This was a big improvement from last week’s disappointing Smackdown. Everything on the show was good. We even got an Undertaker match. Did I just call Undertaker’s last match while he’s still undefeated at WrestleMania?
We opened Smackdown up with an awesome segment involving Rey Mysterio and CM Punk. This feud is way better than the World Heavyweight Championship program. Rey Mysterio cut one of the most emotional and believable interviews I’ve ever heard from him. That was one of his best performances ever. CM Punk then came out and cut another monster of a promo on him. CM Punk and the S.E.S. are white hot. They’re the best thing going in WWE in my opinion. It doesn’t get any better. The no contact until WrestleMania clause is genius and the stipulation is great, too. I don’t see Mysterio losing but anything can happen in WWE. The image of CM Punk and Serena watching Luke Gallows get destroyed by Mysterio later in the night was priceless as well. I can’t say enough good things about this match up.
The Cutting Edge segment was good but, for some reason, it just wasn’t great. I don’t know what it is about this feud but it’s not really living up to my expectations. I don’t know if I built it up too big in my head or what but it’s not really cutting it for me. Edge has the momentum one week, then Jericho gets it back, loses it, and gets it back. I know these guys could do better but I guess they can only do so much. The material just isn’t there at the moment and with almost a week to go until WrestleMania I doubt it’ll come. Hopefully the match will be as good as I think it’s going to be.
I liked the opening tag match tonight but it could have gone longer in my opinion. That was a poorly placed commercial break. It cut off half the match. We came back and saw the ending. I did like, however, Dolph Ziggler getting the pin over MVP and posing on top of the ladder with the briefcase. My prediction made on New Year’s is looking stronger and stronger.
I’d like to see how they’re going to deal with Drew McIntyre’s loss to Undertaker. I doubt that will be expunged. McIntyre didn’t do much against Undertaker as he got beat in short order. He’ll probably win Money in the Bank but I hope not. The audience sits on their hands when he comes out. I doubt they’ll come unglued if he wins Money in the Bank.
I hate that the Hart Dynasty got jobbed out in a minute to John Morrison and R-Truth. I bet their match won’t even make WrestleMania. It’ll probably be the DVD extra like last year’s was. Speaking of the tag match this year, what was up with The Miz being off TV the whole week? I don’t remember seeing him once.
It’s another Fan Axxess Smackdown next week. The Money in the Bank participants will be in a nine man tag team match and Vickie Guerrero will suit up to fight the Glamazon. Hopefully it’ll be better than last year’s.
