Open The Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano Dominates 2013 Awards
2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Awards

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Wrestler Of The Year
Winner: Johnny Gargano
1st Runner Up: AR Fox
2nd Runner Up: Ricochet

Open The Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano won in a landslide with 62.63% of the vote. He retained the DGUSA Title for an entire year while producing must see title matches vs. Jon Davis in a brutal No Rope Match (DGUSA REVOLT!), Shingo (DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate), Akira Tozawa (Enter The Dragon), Samuray Del Sol (EVOLVE 22) and Chris Hero (DGUSA Freedom Fight). This doesn’t even include some of the epic non-title matches vs. Rich Swann (DGUSA Bushido) and Masaaki Mochizuki (DGUSA Fearless) and his buzzworthy performance in the USA vs. The World series at EVOLVE 21. The bottom line is when Gargano was in the DGUSA/EVOLVE ring, something special usually happened.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Tag Team Of The Year
Winner: The Young Bucks
1st Runner Up: The Bravado Brothers
2nd Runner Up: CIMA & AR Fox

This wasn’t even close as The Young Bucks dominated the DGUSA/EVOLVE tag team scene with with 85.86% of the vote. The former DGUSA Open The United Gate Champions won the titles in a spectacular match against CIMA & AR Fox at DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate and wouldn’t be stopped until the Bravados upset them at DGUSA Fearless on the next to last show of the year. In between that, they produced amazing matches including vs. EITA & Tomahawk T.T. at EVOLVE 22 and Ricochet & Rich Swann at DGUSA Enter The Dragon. Whenever you saw The Young Bucks on the card, you knew you were going to see elite tag team action.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Show Of The Year
Winner: DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate
1st Runner Up: DGUSA Freedom Fight
2nd Runner Up: EVOLVE 24

DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate won handily with 49.45% of the vote. This isn’t a knock on the other shows, but rather a testament to the insane quality of Open The Ultimate Gate. The card featured Johnny Gargano vs. Shingo in the controversial classic for the DGUSA Title, CIMA & AR Fox vs. The Young Bucks for the DGUSA Tag Titles and other stellar bouts including Ricochet vs. Akira Tozawa, The Super Smash Brothers vs. EITA & Tomahawk T.T. and an amazing Six Way Freestyle. It should be noted that EVOLVE 22 just missed making the top three as the runner up race was very close.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Match Of The Year
Winner: Johnny Gargano vs. Shingo from DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate
1st Runner Up: Drew Gulak vs. Biff Busick from EVOLVE 24
2nd Runner Up: AR Fox vs. Ricochet from EVOLVE 24

Johnny Gargano vs. Shingo produced one of the most buzzworthy matches of Wrestlemania weekend and you know that covers a lot of ground. It won this poll with 32.32% of the vote. Congratulations to Drew Gulak and Biff Busick for squeaking out 2nd place by less than 1% and showing that Style Battle tournament featured the next wave of stars. AR Fox and Ricochet gave us one of the most unique and crazy matches when the ring broke at EVOLVE 24. Just missing the top three were Johnny Gargano vs. Samuray Del Sol from EVOLVE 22, Ricochet vs. Akira Tozawa from Open The Ultimate Gate and The Gate To Heaven Match at DGUSA Bushido.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Feud Of The Year
Winner: AR Fox vs. Ricochet
1st Runner Up: Johnny Gargano vs. Rich Swann
2nd Runner Up: The Young Bucks vs. AR Fox

AR Fox vs. Ricochet was a simple, but personal story that actually started in 2012. Ricochet had solidified his spot as the top high-flyer and became jealous when AR Fox was picked by CIMA as the next top high-flyer. Ricochet claimed AR Fox was just a “stunt dummy” and this led to a series of matches that culminated in the unforgettable broken ring match at EVOLVE 24. This feud won with 56.70% of the vote.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Newcomer Of The Year
Winner: Trent Baretta
1st Runner Up: The Bravado Brothers
2nd Runner Up: Tomahawk T.T.

Trent Baretta has become one of the top players in DGUSA/EVOLVE and figures to become only a more central part of the WWNLive Family in 2014. His impressive performances against AR Fox at Enter The Dragon and Rich Swann at Freedom Fight, to name a few, gained him 37.37% of the vote. The Bravado Brothers made an impact by winning the DGUSA Tag Team Titles. We were fortunate to be able to have Tomahawk T.T. on several shows while he was training in Mexico. Make sure to go out of your way to see Tomahawk vs. EITA at EVOLVE 20. Both are now a top stars in Japan for Dragon Gate.

2013 DGUSA/EVOLVE Story Of The Year
Winner: Johnny Gargano holds DGUSA Title for 2nd year
1st Runner Up: Gargano’s antics during and after Shingo match
2nd Runner Up: AR Fox becomes 1st EVOLVE Champion/unique title matches

Gargano’s title reign took first place with 29.29% of the vote and his antics took 2nd place with 20.28% of the vote. This just shows what a MVP Gargano was for the WWNLive Family this year. AR Fox deserve major props for his year as EVOLVE Champion with one exciting title match after another under unique circumstances.

There you have it. The best of the DGUSA/EVOLVE in 2013 as voted on by the fans. We want to thank everyone who voted for participating. Now we will try to top ourselves in 2014!
