Detailed recap of AAA vs. TNA: TripleMania XIX

AAA vs. TNA: TripleMania XIX
Mexico City, Mexico (Palacio de los Deportes)
June 18, 2011
Report by: Josh Boutwell of Wrestleview.com

Following “TripleMania” I decided to sit down and recap the TNA vs. AAA bouts from the card since I am both the TNA Impact recapper and Lucha columnist here at WrestleView. For several months leading up to TripleMania TNA has declared war on AAA with repeated online promos directed at the company. To begin with the leaders of the top heel group in AAA (La Legion): Konnan & Dorian Roldan teased that Konnan did not support Dorian bringing TNA in to take over AAA, but when TNA Founder Jeff Jarrett finally showed up in a AAA ring the two revealed that they were on the same page and led to La Legion kicking El Zorro out of the group. This set up Zorro defending his belt against TNA’s Jeff Jarrett. If you follow TNA then you also know that on the 06/16 episode of “Impact Wrestling” Jarrett lost a Parking Lot Brawl to Kurt Angle where the stipulation was that Jarrett would have to “move to Mexico.” Just days later TripleMania took place.

The show opens up with the gorgeous TripleMania set being shown off with pyro and then we head into the first TNA-AAA matchup. They’re using ht the 6-side ring tonight which TNA fans will remember I’m sure.

Relevos Atomicos Match (8-Person Tag Team Match)
The Beautiful People (Angelina Love & Velvet Sky), Mickie James, & Sexy Star vs. Fabi Apache, Mari Apache, Cinthia Moreno, Lolita

Mari & Fabi Apache come in their ceremonial Native headgear. This is the first time the Beautiful People have been together since their breakup back in March (and AAA is ignoring the whole Winter-Angelina zombie storyline…THANK GOD). BP come out together to their theme music and their entrance together. This is the AAA debut for all 3 Knockouts I believe. Both have “Holler” across their chest and gorgeous backsides. The TNA stars have their entrance videos up on the screen as well. Mickie is looking as good as ever in those short shorts. Sexy Star enters from the backseat of a Cadillac Escalade in her entrance. Sexy high fives her TNA partners and then stares down the tecnicos (babyfaces, Fabi’s team). The rudas/rudo (Team TNA & Sexy) attack the tecncios at the bell. They toss Fabi, Mari, and Lolita out to the floor leaving Cinthia in the ring with all 4 rudas. All 4 take turns kicking Cinthia and then BP hit a Double Leg Kick on her followed by a Double Elbow Drop. Fabi runs in to make the save but gets cut off by Sexy Star and she and Mickie beat Fabi down. Mickie chokes Fabi on the ropes and then Sexy hits Cinthia with a knee. BP whip Mari into the corner as she comes in and hit her with a Running Double Clothesline in the corner. Lolita runs in and attacks Mickie but she gets taken out quickly as well. Mickie and Sexy whip Lolita into a corner and Sexy follows up with a Running Back Elbow. Mickie then hits Lolita with a Snapmare Takeover out of the corner followed by a Sliding Dropkick from Sexy that sends Lolita out to the floor. The rudas are left in the ring as the tecnicos attempt to recover on the outside. Cinthia comes back in and Sexy immediately goes on the attack followed by Mickie. Mickie holds Cinthia while Sexy chops and kicks her. Mickie then lays in some kicks of her own. Mickie & Lolita stretch Cinthia in the corner and then toss her across the ring. Angelina comes in now and Snapmares Cinthia over followed by a kick to the back and then a Sliding Dropkick. Mari comes in and attacks Angelina but Velvet kicks her from behind. BP whips Mari into the ropes and goes for a Double Clothesline but Mari runs through it and then absolutely obliterates Angelina with a clothesline. Mari then clotheslines Velvet but Sexy takes out Mari with a dropkick. Fabi runs in and hits Sexy with a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker! Lolita then runs in and kicks Mickie. She whips Mickie into the ropes and Cinthia hits an Armdrag followed by a dropkick from Lolita. The rudas bail out to the floor and the tecnicos stand tall now. After stalling the rudas come back to the ring and it looks like we’re finally going to settle down into a tag match now. Mickie and Fabi start things out and Mickie goes for a chop but Fabi blocks it and chops Mickie. Fabi nails Mickie with big rights and then she whips Mickie into the corner and charges but Mickie hits her with a back elbow. Mickie uses the corner to lift herself up into the air and then wraps her legs around Fabi’s head and hits the Mickiecanrana! Mickie climbs up top and dives off but Fabi sidesteps her. Fabi climbs up top and connects with a Missile Dropkick! Mickie rolls out to the floor and Sexy Star replaces her (remember in Lucha tags are NOT necessary, when one wrestler leaves the ring their partner can replace them). Lolita tags in as well. Sexy hits Lolita with a big Forearm and then whips her into the corner but Lolita springboards out of the corner with a nice Springboard Armdrag! Sexy attempts to answer with a chop but Lolita blocks it and grabs her hand. Lolita kicks Sexy and then springs to the top and connects with a Split Legged Springboard Armdrag! Sexy rolls out to the floor and this time Angelina replaces her. Mari comes in an as well. Mari lays into Angelina with kicks and slaps and then a Scoop Slam. Mari climbs up top and hits a Swanton Bomb for a nearfall before Velvet breaks it up. Angelina rolls out to the floor and Velvet remains in and connects with a Straight Jacket Slam for a nearfall before Cinthia breaks it up. Mari rolls out and Cinthia will remain in against Velvet. Cinthia whips Velvet into the ropes and goes for a clothesline but Velvet ducks only to eat a Backstabber from Cinthia! Velvet rolls out to the floor and Mickie replaces her. Cinthia goes for a clothesline but Mickie counters into a Neckbreaker. 1…2…NO Fabi breaks it up! Cinthia rolls out and Fabi hits an Angels Wings! 1…2…NO Sexy breaks it up with a kick to the head. Sexy grabs Fabi and hits her Swinging Sexy Stunner (Fisherman Suplex) as Mickie rolls out! 1…2…NO Lolita breaks it up! Lolita grabs Sexy and locks in a Guillotine Choke but BP come in and break it up. They double team Lolita and Angelina hangs her upside down in the corner. Velvet then hits a Running Dropkick to Lolita in the corner! Mari comes in and hits both with big Forearm Smashes. Sexy then cuts Mari off and whips her into the corner but Mari springs to the top. Sexy charges over and slaps Mari hard! Sexy then climbs up top with Mari and hits a Frankensteiner! Mickie tags in and hits a Leg Drop on Mari as well but then Fabi comes in and takes Mickie out with a dropkick as Mari rolls to the floor. Sexy comes back in and goes for a clothesline but Fabi ducks and then hits Sexy with a leg kick. Fabi then hits a Sitdown Powerbomb! The referee doesn’t count for her though (it’s heel referee Hijo de Tirantes who is aligned with La Legion)! On the outside Cinthia dives off the apron with a Seated Senton on Angelina! Mari then dives off the apron with a Somersault Senton onto BP & Cinthia! Lolita then hits a Top Congiro through the ropes onto all of them! Fabi and Mickie are left in the ring and Mickie attacks Fabi from behind with forearms. Mickie chokes Fabi on the ropes and then whips her into the ropes. Mickie leapfrogs Fabi and then rolls backwards and goes for a Monkey Flip but Fabi rolls over her. Mickie nicks back to her feet but then eats chops from Fabi. Fabi yanks on Mickie’s hair and then Tirantes grabs her and starts pulling on Fabi’s hair! He holds her for Mickie and she goes for the Mick Kick, but Fabi ducks and Mickie takes out the ref! Fabi then kicks Mickie and locks in a side headlock. I think Mickie breaks it by grabbing Fabi’s damn crotch! Wow, that was kind of hot…Mickie then kicks Fabi and KISSES HER! REALLY HOT! Mickie follows up with the Mickie-DT! 1…2…3!

Winners: Beautiful People, Mickie, & Sexy Star via pinfall (Mickie-DT)

(1st off, either AAA told Mari to be easy on the TNA girls or Mari likes them because I fully expected to kill at least Velvet a couple of times in this match but she didn’t. It was clunky at times but the girls worked hard and surprisingly well together despite none of them being in the ring with the TNA girls before. Mickie vs. Fabi could be a fun feud (especially since Fabi can actually take Mickie’s finish properly which a lot of the Knockouts have failed to do other than Tara & Madison) as they went after each other after the match as well. **1/2)

In the back Konnan laughs about the Knockouts “bitch slapping” Mari & Fabi Apache. Jeff Jarrett says he came to TripleMania for 2 reasons: 1) to become the “Mega Champion” and 2) when it’s all said and done AAA’s initials will be replaced by “TNA.” Konnan then starts a “TNA” chant with the TNA wrestlers including RVD.

AAA World Tag Team Championships
Steel Cage Match
“Gato Suicida” Extreme Tiger & “From The Heavens” Jack Evans (c) vs. Mr. Anderson & “The Monster” Abyss

TNA fans will probably recognize AAA’s cage somewhat as well as it’s a six-sided cage. The way to win this match is both members of one team have to escape. Mr. Anderson wrestled in a 3-Way for the AAA Title at last years Rey de Reyes event and Abyss tagged with Cibernetico at last years TripleMania. Abyss is the reigning TNA X-Division Champion and Anderson is the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Either Mr. Anderson knows Spanish or had someone tell him how to say a few phrases because he did his usual TNA “MISTEEEER ANDERSON” entrance in Spanish. Neither Anderson or Abyss were Champions when this match was set. For some reason Abyss comes out to his old theme music rather than his new TNA theme. He’s carrying a bag most likely filled with tacks. Tiger & Evans have been Tag Champions since March. Evans is also the AAA Cruiserweight Champion. Evans wrestled for TNA back in the Asylum Years when he was a part of Team Canada in the 2nd Americas X-Cup against Team Mexico. In this type of match last year TNA’s Hernandez stole the show at TripleMania by diving off the light structure ABOVE the cage. Evans and Tiger go right at Team TNA at the bell! Mr. Anderson shoves Evans away and goes for a clothesline but Evans blocks it with his foot and then connects with a Roundhouse Kick! Abyss fights Tiger off and sits him up on the top rope for something but Evans jumps on Abyss’ back and locks in a Sleeper! Abyss flings Evans off but Tiger dives off the top with a Missile Dropkick! Abyss doesn’t go down though and attempts a double clothesline on Tiger & Evans but the duck and then the two Double Dropkick Anderson! Tiger hits a Dropkick Salto on Abyss sending him into the corner and then Evans follows up with a Cartwheel into a Back Elbow on Abyss in the corner. Evans then lifts a charging Tiger up into the air into a Dropkick on Abyss in the corner! Evans then dives off of Tiger’s back with a Flying Double Knee Attack! Anderson charges at them but Tiger hits him with a Drop Toe Hold. Evans then rolls over Anderson’s back and locks in a modified Chinlock holding Anderson’s face up into the air so Tiger can hit a Sliding Dropkick to his face! Both Evans & Tiger attempt to escape the cage now but Abyss pulls them both down off the cage hard to the mat. Abyss grabs Tiger and Chokeslams him into the side of the cage and then Evans goes for a Wheelbarrow move but Abyss blocks it. Evans hits Abyss with a series of back elbows and then he comes off the ropes only to be Biel Thrown over Abyss’ head into the ropes! Anderson is back up and he and Abyss beat on the tecnicos now. Abyss chokes Evans and Anderson chokes Tiger. Anderson takes his shirt off and chokes Evans with that now. The rudos have completely taken over now and just continue to beat down the smaller Tecnicos. Anderson hits a Scoop Slam on Evans and then he holds Abyss as Abyss goes for a clothesline. Tiger ducks and Abyss takes out Anderson! Abyss tries to clothesline Tiger again and Tiger ducks again and then attempts a Springboard Moonsault, but Abyss catches him in midair! He tries to lawn dart Tiger into the side of the cage but Tiger fights out and climbs up to the top of the cage! Tiger then climbs up onto the light scrtucture above the cage just like Hernandez! HE DIVES OFF THE LIGHT STRUCTURE WITH A DAMN CORKSCREW MOONSAULT ONTO ABYSS IN THE RING! Jack Evans then uses the side of the cage to spring himself off into a Tornado DDT on Anderson! Tiger dropkicks Abyss into the corner and then Tiger climbs up Abyss’s back and to the top of the cage! Tiger climbs over and out of the cage to the floor! Tiger has escaped, leaving Evans alone against Abyss & Anderson! Evans turns around and realizes the numbers game. He fights off the rudos but the numbers get the better of him and they beat him down. Tiger roots his partner on from outside the cage but the rudos are taking Evans apart. Abyss throws Evans into the cage wall and then Anderson Catapults Evans into the cage wall! Abyss tells Anderson he can take care of Evans from here and then Anderson climbs up the cage and out leaving only Abyss and Evans in the ring. Abyss continues to punish Jack Evans in the ring and he lawn darts Evans into the cage wall and then continues to taunt the Mexican crowd. Evans tries to fight back with punches but Abyss just shrugs them off and throws Evans into the corner. Abyss charges at Evans but Evans uses the ropes to flip himself over Abyss! Evans then charges at Abyss lifts him up into the air! Evans lands on the top rope and then dives off with a Hurricanrana on Abyss! Evans hits Abyss with leg kicks and then a Spinning Back Kick. Evans hits the ropes and Abyss attempts a clothesline but Evans actually ducks it by backflipping under it! Evans then hits a Somersault Dropkick on Abyss! Evans hits a Standing Moonsault on Abyss! Evans thinks he’s ready to escape now and starts climbing the cage but Anderson shoves Tiger into the cage while Evans is climbing over resulting in Evans crotching himself on the top of the cage! In the ring Abyss spreads out dozens of the thumbtacks on the mat and then climbs up to the top with Evans. He grabs Evans by the throat and sets up to Chokeslam him off the top of the cage but Evans fights it off and then he Sunset Flip SuperBombs Abyss off the top of the cage into the thumbtacks! Evans climbs up the cage and onto the light structure now and dives off with an INSANE PLANCHA ONTO ABYSS HARD! Damn, Abyss has taken some sick bumps in this one. Evans climbs up the cage again and this time he climbs up and over it and as he’s coming down Mr. Anderson catches him on his shoulders so he can’t touch the floor, but Extreme Tiger dropkicks Anderson in the back causing Anderson to drop Evans!

Winners & STILL Tag Champs: Jack Evans & Extreme Tiger via escaping the cage

(Their real goal here was to one up the match they had last year where Hernandez dove off the light structure and they did so with 3 huge spots (2 dives off the light structure and one off the cage). Early on they played off the big man vs. little man aspect very well with Evans & Tiger trying to take out the much bigger opponents with big moves and high spots. In the end Abyss taking Evans lightly and thinking he had it one bit him in the ass. Great match, ****. Either Evans OR Tiger would be great in the X-Division and this actually plays into Abyss’ hatred for the X-Division. I hope they show at least clips of this match on Impact Wrestling).

AAA World Heavyweight Championship
El Zorro (c) vs. “King Of The Mountain” Jeff Jarrett w/Karen Angel

Jarrett actually throws Tamales out to the crowd before the match, pure GENIUS. Zorro wears a robe covered in the Mexican Flag’s colors to the ring. Wow, Zorro looks unbelievably out of a shape here. I had read that was the case but didn’t think it was this bad. He’s wearing a t-shirt in the match and I’m guessing for good reason. Jarrett gets in Zorro’s face at the bell and the two slap each other. They lockup and Jarrett connects with an Armdrag and then taunts Zorro with the strut. Jarrett gets Zorro in a Side Headlock and Zorro shoves him into the ropes only to eat a Shoulder Block. Zorro doesn’t go down so Jarrett hits the ropes again and Zorro goes for a Hip Toss, but Jarrett blocks it and hits a Hip Toss of his own. Jarrett taunts Zorro again as well as the crowd. Jarrett kicks Zorro and tosses him into the corner. He slams Zorro’s head into 3 different turnbuckles and then he attempts to whip Zorro into the ropes, but Zorro reverses it and connects with a Hip Toss. Zorro follows up with 2 Armdrags. Zorro then clotheslines Jarrett over the top rope and mocks Jarrett’s strut. Out of shape or not, so far, so good for Zorro. He looks good so far in the match. Jarrett teases bailing on the match but comes back and breaks the 20-count of the referee. He bails out to the floor again and taunts the fans before grabbing Zorro’s feet and pulling him out to the floor. Jarrett slams Zorro into the ring post and then rolls him back into the ring. Jarrett chops away at Zorro in the corner. Jarrett goes for another chop but Zorro ducks and lights Jarrett up with chops of his own! Zorro counts along with the fans everytime he chops Jarrett. He then attempts to whip Jarrett into the ropes but Jarrett reverses it and Karen trips Zorro. Jarrett then hits Zorro from behind. Jarrett dumps Zorro out to the floor and slams him into the guardrail. Some fans start throwing there blow up “thunder sticks” (that you slap together to make noise) at Jarrett. Jarrett rolls Zorro back into the ring and puts the boots to him. Jarrett chokes Zorro on the middle rope all the while taunting the crowd. Jarrett then hits a Body Guillotine on Zorro as he was draped over the middle rope. Jarrett chokes Zorro in the corner now and then drags him to the center of the ring but Zorro fights back with right hands only to get slammed to the mat by his hair by Jarrett. Jarrett whips Zorro into the ropes and goes for a backdrop but Zorro stops and tries to kick Jarrett. Jarrett catches his foot and trips him and then locks in the Figure-4! Zorro fights it and reverses the hold by rolling over! Jarrett reaches the ropes to break it. Jarrett then whips Zorro into the ropes and locks in a Sleeper. Zorro looks to be out but as the referee holds his hand up Zorro fights and gets back to his feet. He breaks the hold with back elbows and then he slams Jarrett into the turnbuckles. Zorro grabs the kendo stick but Jarrett pokes him in the eyes and then hits a Back Suplex! Both men are down now. They both get to their feet and exchange right hands with Zorro getting the better of Jarrett. Zorro picks up the kendo stick and whips Jarrett into the ropes and hits him with it repeatedly. This is AAA so it doesn’t matter if the match isn’t No DQ obviously. Karen distracts Zorro which allows Jarrett to get the AAA Title and nail Zorro with it! 1…2…NO Zorro kicks out! Jarrett goes to the floor and grabs a chair and goes to hit Zorro with it but the referee pulls it away. Wait, so it’s cool to use the kendo stick but not a chair? Karen hands Jarrett some powder as Zorro picks up the chair. The referee takes the chair away from Zorro now and Jarrett goes to throw the powder in Zorro’s face but Zorro slaps Jarrett’s hands into his own face! Zorro rolls him up! 1…2…NO Jarrett kicks out! Zorro grabs Jarrett and attempts to whip him into the ropes but Jarrett reverses it and then goes for a backdrop, but Zorro Sunset Flips over him! Jarrett rolls through and locks in an Ankle Lock! Nice little homage to his feud with Angle there. Zorro fights the hold and rolls through it to counter. Jarrett charges at Zorro but Zorro drop toe holds and then locks in an Ankle Lock of his own! Jarrett fights to get to the ropes and Karen grabs his hands but Zorro pulls Jarrett back to the center and pulls Karen along with him! Zorro grabs Karen but the referee stops him and then tells Karen to get out of the ring but while the referee was messing with Karen, Jeff lays Zorro out with a guitar shot! Jarrett taunts the crowd again and finally covers Zorro, 1…2….NO ZORRO KICKS OUT! Karen tells Jeff to get the kendo stick and he obliges. Jeff hits Zorro with it repeatedly and then uses the kendo to hit him with a Sandman-like Stroke! 1…2…3! New Champ!

Winner & NEW AAA World Champ: Jeff Jarrett via pinfall (The Stroke aided with a kendo stick)

(Wow, that match was unbelievably slow and boring and it’s like they took every screwy finish in the history of wrestling and crammed them all into one match. We had chairs, belt shots, kendo sticks, powder, and distracting the referee. Zorro looked gassed in several parts of this match which is a shame and honestly if you’ve seen the majority of his Title Matches you’re probably not surprised. This didn’t even come close to touching the suckfest that was Zorro-Charly Manson but it wasn’t very good either. There has been rumors of an injury with Zorro and if that’s the case then it explains why he is so out of shape but why the hell is he in the ring if that’s the case? Zorro’s title reign will likely go down as one of the worst in AAA’s history which is another shame. **)

AAA Latin America Championship
Dr. Wagner Jr. w/Dr. Wagner III vs. “Whole F’N Show” Rob Van Dam

RVD comes out for this match draped in the American Flag and carrying a Steel Chair. I don’t remember him wrestling in Mexico before but I’m sure he has. I believe this is his AAA debut though. Dr. Wagner is accompanied to the ring by his son Dr. Wagner III (or Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. whichever way you want to say it). He gets a traditional Mexican Musical entrance that was pretty cool, especially if AAA’s sound was a lot better. This is for the newly created AAA Latin America Championship which there was no Tournament for. AAA just thought Wagner and RVD deserved the shot at it so they get it. A slight “TNA” chant actually starts before the match to my surprise. Should be interesting to see if RVD plays the rudo/heel here or if he wrestles the way he normally does. The commentators start a dueling RVD-USA and Wagner-Mexico chant as the two are being introduced. RVD gets in Wagner’s face and Wagner shoves him. The two lockup and they stalemate. They lockup again and this time Wagner gets RVD in a side headlock. RVD shoves Wagener into the ropes and then does a split as Wagner charges at him so Wagner rolls over him. RVD then puts Wagner in a Waistlock but Wagner counters with an Armdrag! Wagner then goes for a Backsplash Senton but RVD rolls out of the way and then RVD goes for a Somersault Leg Drop but Wagner rolls out of the way! Wagner goes for a clothesline but RVD ducks and then RVD goes for a spinning heel kick but Wagner ducks it. Both go for front kicks at the same time and kick each other. They stalemate again. The two take turns posing for the crowd and obviously Wagner gets the better ovation. RVD doesn’t seem to like this and gets in Wagner’s face and does his “ROB VAN DAM” pose so Wagner kicks him in the leg repeatedly. Wagner then hits a Snapmare Takeover followed by a Sliding Dropkick that sends RVD out to the floor. Wagner sets up for some type of dive on the apron but RVD spin kicks Wagner’s legs to trip him. RVD then goes back into the ring and hits a Slingshot Guillotine Leg Drop over the top onto the apron on Wagner! RVD climbs up on the apron and hits a Standing Moonsault off the apron onto Wagner on the floor! RVD hits Wagner with Forearms and then slams him into the guardrail. RVD springs onto the guardrail but Wagner shoves him into the crowd! Wagner climbs over the guardrail but eats a Superkick from RVD! Wagner is laid out, draped over the guardrail so RVD leaps off the guardrail with another Guillotine Leg Drop! RVD hits Wagner with more Forearms and then another Superkick. RVD tosses Wagner back into the ring and chokes him in the corner. RVD attempts to whip Wagner into the opposite corner but Wagner reverses it. Wagner then charges at RVD but RVD hits him with a back elbow and then goes for a springboard move and slips. Wagner then crotches him and hangs him upside down in the corner in the Tree of Woe. Wagner picks up a chair and puts it over RVD’s face and dropkicks it into his face! 1…2…NO RVD kicks out! That count was slow as hell. Wagner picks RVD up and locks in a Hammerlock and then he rolls RVD over into a crazy submission hold called La Escalera (which is pretty much an Octopus while laying on the mat)! RVD fights and gets his leg on the bottom rope to break the hold. Wagner hits RVD with several leg kicks and then the two exchange forearm smashes in the center of the ring. Wagner gets the better of the exchange and then tries to throw RVD into a corner but RVD blocks it with his foot and then kicks Wagner in the face! RVD follows up with Rolling Thunder! 1…2…NO Wagner kicks out! Another painfully slow count. RVD picks up the chair and Baseball Slide Dropkicks it into Wagner’s face in the corner. 1…2…NO Wagner kicks out again! Wagner comes back with rights and then he blocks a kick from RVD and hits a Dragonscrew Legwhip! He then hits a 2nd one! That one look like RVD’s leg actually got caught under Wagner when he hit it too. Wagner hits the ropes but RVD catches him on his shoulders and connects with a Rolling Firemans Slam! RVD then springs to the top and hits a Diving Moonsault! 1…2…NO Wagner kicks out! RVD hits a Stepover Heel Kick on Wagner and then grabs the chair again and lays it over Wagner’s body. RVD climbs up top and dives off with the 5-Star Frog Splash! That’s it! 1…2…NO Wagner kicks out! RVD hits Wagner with the chair in the sternum and then lays it on Wagner’s body and kicks it into him. He then climbs up top from the opposite corner and sets up for the Van Terminator but Wagner gets to his feet and walks towards RVD pretty much waiting for RVD to dive off with the Diving Back Kick. That was the worst part of the match thus far, just poorly done. 1…2…NO Wagner kicks out! RVD goes for the Rolling Monkey Flip but Wagner side steps him and then hits an uppercut and climbs up top with RVD. Wagner dives off with a kind of modified Flatliner into the chair! Wagner gets the crowd behind him and then hits the Wagner Driver! 1…2…NO RVD kicks out! RVD kicked out of the Wagner Driver! RVD rolls out to the apron but Wagner grabs him and goes to slam him into the corner but RVD blocks it with his foot and then attempts to slam Wagner into the corner but Wagner blocks it and slams RVD into the corner. Wagner grabs RVD by the hair but RVD slaps his hands away and hits a Shoulderblock through the ropes. RVD goes for a 2nd one but Wagner nails him with a knee to the head and then he hangs RVD up in the ropes and hits a Hanging DDT onto the chair! 1…2………….3 (yeah I exaggerated that slow as count)!

Winner & the 1st EVER Latin America Champ: Wagner via pinfall (Hanging DDT)

(The worst part of this match? The damn awful slow counts by the referee. The match was fun but things like RVD kicking out of the Wagner Driver and the eventual finish would look so much better if the count was decent. This happens a lot in Lucha, mainly with older referees especially Pepe Casas and Tirantes Sr. Anyway the match was pretty good other than a few sloppy spots and for two guys that have never worked together they did well. Wagner seems to always work well in big matches regardless. ***1/2)

Overall this was a nice start to the AAA vs. TNA feud with them going 2-2 and both sides capturing gold. None of these matches were the best on the card (for that see El Mesias vs. L.A. Park) but some good action overall. This should be fun to see where this whole feud goes and if it spills over into TNA TV.
