PPV Predictions: TNA Genesis 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Genesis PPV
January 8, 2012
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for Genesis. The show will be held in The Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

The card is currently booked to have eight matches.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be four championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FOUR points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Current Standings (As of WWE TLC)

1) Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings/The Eye Gouge)……………108-54 (5-1)
2) Ryan Rivera (ROH on HDNet Recapper)…………………………..104-59 (5-1)
3) Gregory “Grash” Walek (WWE NXT Recapper)……………………102-61 (4-2)
4) Mike Tedesco (WWE Smackdown Recapper)……………………..100-63 (5-1)
5) Dave Stephens (Raw Recaps/That’s a Wrap/Teachers Lounge)…100-63 (4-2)
6) Wrestleview Students (The Readers of the article)………………100-63 (4-2)
7) Nicholas Gray (Independent Roundtable Host)…………………97-64 (5-1)
8) Jason Namako (ROH/Superstars/FCW Recaps/Ind. Round. Host).97-66 (4-2)
9) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V/Teacher’s Lounge)……97-66 (4-2)
10) Josh Boutwell (Impact Recaps/LL USA Recaps/Viva La Raza)…….96-61 (4-2)
11) Evan O’Brien (WV International Desk)……………………………93-70 (4-2)
12) Greg McNeish (WV International Desk)…………………………….92-70 (4-2)
13) Darragh O’Connor (WV International Desk)……………………..90-55 (3-3)
14) Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds/WV Polls)…………….90-73 (4-2)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

55: Jose Marrero; Mike Tedesco
53: Gregory Walek
51: Ryan Rivera; Dave Stephens; Jason Namako; Anthony Valvo
49: Josh Boutwell
48: Nicholas Gray; Greg McNeish
46: Evan O’Brien
42: Matt O’Brien
41: Darragh O’Connor

The Student of the Week for TNA Genesis will be Austen Allen and Pat Lorang. They were the only Wrestleview Readers to go undefeated in the WWE TLC picks and earned the title.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

The Wrestleview Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for WWE’s TLC. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..110-53 (5-1) (55) – #1
2) Brian Czygan……………………………………………………105-58 (4-2) (56) – #2
3) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..103-60 (4-2) (50) – #3
4) Michael Fox……………………………………………………102-61 (4-2) (49)
5) Sam Newstone……………………………………………….99-64 (5-1) (56)
6) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..98-66 (4-2) (49)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 59-89 with 31 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. Though there is only one PPVs left you can still be a Student of the Week sometime this year.

As of Press Time, have yet to offer predictions from Mike Tedesco (Get Well), Greg McNeish, Gregory Walek, Matt O’Brien, and Students of the Week Pat Lorang and Austin Allen. If anyone e-mails me their selections, I will place them in the comments section of this piece.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for TNA Genesis

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Singles Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Gunner

Jose M. – RVD because everytime I see him putting someone over I forget how he doesn’t lose..at all not ever.

Ryan R. – RVD.

Gregory W. – ROB VAN DAM.

Dave S. – ROB VAN DAM.

Nicholas G. – RVD.

Jason N. – GUNNER.

Anthony V. – GUNNER. Ok, Van Dam is the favorite but with this edge that Gunner has I have a feeling this might be a way to take Van Dam off of TNA storylines for a bit.

Josh B. – RVD.

Evan O. – GUNNER.

Darragh O. – ROB VAN DAM.

CONSENSUS: VAN DAM. Though Gunner has taken out Garrett Bischoff, Jesse Neal, and Douglas Williams (in storyline, of course) it did not convince the majority of the staff in this decision. We expect the veteran to defeat the up-and-coming wrester.

VAN DAM 7; Gunner 3.

Singles Match
D’Angelo Dinero vs. Devon

Jose M. – POPE because that’s what would make sense in this feud.

Ryan R. – DEVON.

Gregory W. – D’ANGELO DINERO.

Dave S. – DINERO.

Nicholas G. – DINERO.

Jason N. – DINERO.

Anthony V. – DINERO. It won’t make sense if Devon gets a win after the length of the feud. I expect shenanigans.

Josh B. – POPE.

Evan O. – D’ANGELO DINERO.

Darragh O. – DEVON.

CONSENSUS: DINERO. Devon will battle with emotion after a lengthy feud with Dinero that involved his kids. In the end, the majority believes that a Dinero victory is evident.

DINERO 8; Devon 2.

Monster’s Ball Match
Stipulation: If Abyss loses, he must join the Immortal faction
Abyss vs. Bully Ray

Jose M. – ABYSS because I am not interested in seeing anything further with Immortal although I have a strong hunch Bully Ray may prevail.

Ryan R. – ABYSS.

Gregory W. – BULLY RAY.

Dave S. – ABYSS.

Nicholas G. – ABYSS.

Jason N. – BULLY RAY.

Anthony V. – ABYSS. What happened to Abyss? He was a force at one point, right? If they want him back as a “monster”, the booking team can’t let Ray win this match.

Josh B. – ABYSS.

Evan O. – BULLY RAY.

Darragh O. – BULLY RAY.

CONSENSUS: ABYSS. When there is a Bully Ray match, there will be weapons and trickery. This should not stop Abyss on his path to eliminate Immortal. The majority does not expect Abyss to be placed back into this doomed faction.

ABYSS 6; Bully Ray 4.

Singles Match
Kurt Angle vs. James Storm

Jose M. – JAMES STORM to keep him hot for Bobby Roode although I guess you could put Angle over and have them wrestle again next PPV.

Ryan R. – ANGLE.

Gregory W. – JAMES STORM.

Dave S. – STORM.

Nicholas G. – STORM.

Jason N. – ANGLE.

Anthony V. – STORM. With Angle going to the Olympic trails it would be a great way to help someone get over. If Storm wins for the third time, he is a World Title threat once again.

Josh B. – ANGLE.

Evan O. – JAMES STORM.

Darragh O. – JAMES STORM.

CONSENSUS: STORM. It is very rare that Angle is not the favorite in a match that does not involve a title. However, the majority believes that “The Cowboy” is ready for another shot at the TNA World Title.

STORM 7; Angle 3.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles’ Match for the TNA Knockout’s Championship
Gail Kim (c) vs. Mickie James

Jose M. – GAIL KIM, it’s too soon to take the title off of her and I am not sure how many people know about this but she came up with Tracy Brooks and I get the feeling she wants to work a title program with her and that’s what TNA is building towards.

Ryan R. – MICKIE JAMES.

Gregory W. – GAIL KIM.

Dave S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Nicholas G. – GAIL.

Jason N. – GAIL KIM.

Anthony V. – GAIL KIM. I don’t think TNA is done having Gail hold on to all the gold in the Knockout’s divison.

Josh B. – MICKIE.

Evan O. – GAIL KIM.

Darragh O. – GAIL KIM.

CONSENSUS: GAIL KIM. The majority believes that the title stays home with Gail Kim, who has been on quite a run since her return to Impact Wrestling.

GAIL 7; Mickie 3.

Tag Team Match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship
Crimson and Matt Morgan (c’s) vs. Samoa Joe and Magnus

Jose M. – MATT MORGAN AND CRIMSON.

Ryan R. – MORGAN AND CRIMSON.

Gregory W. – MATT MORGAN and CRIMSON.

Dave S. – CRIMSON/MORGAN.

Nicholas G. – CRIMORGAN.

Jason N. – CRIMSON AND MATT MORGAN.

Anthony V. – CRIMSON and MORGAN. Joe would have ended Crimson’s “streak” four years ago. Now? Joe is an afterthought and Magnus follows that as well.

Josh B. – JOE AND MAGNUS.

Evan O. – MATT MORGAN AND CRIMSON.

Darragh O. – CRIMSON AND MATT MORGAN.

CONSENSUS: CRIMSON and MORGAN. Joe and Magnus may have looked strong in the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament that was aired on Impact for a few weeks, but the momentum will come to a crashing halt at the hands of the champions.

CRIMSON/MORGAN 9; Joe/Magnus 1.

Four Corners Match for the TNA X-Division Championship
Austin Aries (c) vs. Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorenson vs. Zema Ion

Jose M. – AUSTIN ARIES who will then probably lose the title on free TV to Jesse Sorenson.

Ryan R. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Gregory W. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Dave S. – ARIES.

Nicholas G. – ARIES.

Jason N. – ARIES.

Anthony V. – ARIES. This is a difficult pick and it should not be. Aries is clearly the better deal than the other three put together. Again, he should be the face of that division until someone steps up.

Josh B. – ARIES.

Evan O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Darragh O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

CONSENSUS: ARIES. No matter how many wrestlers are up against him or what the stipulations are, the X Division Championship is predicted to remain with Austin Aries.

ARIES 10; The field did not receive a vote of confidence.

Singles Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Bobby Roode (c) vs. Jeff Hardy

Jose M. – BOBBY ROODE.

Ryan R. – ROODE.

Gregory W. – BOBBY ROODE.

Dave S. – ROODE.

Nicholas G. – ROODE.

Jason N. – ROODE.

Anthony V. – ROODE. I don’t ever want to see Hardy as the company’s champion (or any company’s for that matter) after what he did at Victory Road last year.

Josh B. – ROODE.

Evan O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Darragh O. – JEFF HARDY.

CONSENSUS: ROODE. Hardy may have reformed from his ways earlier in 2011, but according to the majority of the staff the champion has done good things with the World Title. In the end, “The Leader of Selfishness” will retain the title tonight.

ROODE 9; Jeff Hardy 1.
