TNA Impact Wrestling: Open Fight Night
Peoria, IL (Peoria Civic Center)
June 20, 2013
Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz
Report by: Josh Boutwell of Wrestleview.com

Live from the Illini state Impact Wrestling opens up with Sting shown walking into the arena wearing a Mafioso-esque suit.

A video package hyping up the BFG Series airs with great comments from most of the participants.

In the arena all of the BFG Series competitors are standing inside the ring except for Mr. Anderson, Jeff Hardy, Bobby Roode, and AJ Styles. Styles is standing on the apron away from the others while Anderson is pacing around ringside. Hardy & Roode are nowhere to be seen for some reason. Hulk Hogan makes his entrance and he welcomes us to the official kickoff of the BFG Series and he reminds us that tonight is Open Fight Night. Hogan introduces the last 2 BFG Series winners Jeff Hardy & Bobby Roode. They continue to refer to Roode & Hardy as “automatic qualifiers” referencing the BCS in College Football where certain conference champions (Big Ten, Big XII, SEC, Pac 12, ACC) are “automatic qualifiers” into BCS games.

Hogan says tonight everyone will have their first BFG Series match as a “Hardy” chant starts. He says the guy that gets the first call out tonight in Open Fight Night is the winner of the fan vote from Impactwrestling.com. Hogan shows the results on the big screen and not surprisingly Hardy wins handsomely. Hardy grabs a microphone and looks over the field. Before Hardy can say anything Aries interrupts him. He says that he would love nothing more than to be the one that Hardy calls out first but they all know that won’t happen because as popular Hardy is there is another man that every city they go in his legion of fans chant “Austin Aries.”

An “Austin Aries” chant does start and then Daniels interrupts Aries and says he does have a point but maybe he should call out Aries or someone else, but someone he shouldn’t call out is either of members of Bad Influence because if he did Hardy would start this BFG Series with the most demoralizing defeat of his career. Hardy says everyone in the ring is great but someone made it personal last week and that person is Bobby Roode. Hardy calls Roode out and Roode gets in his face and shoves him. Joe then shoves Roode and everybody starts going at it! AJ Styles and Anderson also join in on the fight.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. hypes Hernandez up backstage and he tells Hernandez to stay focused and bring some points home.

Brooke Hogan is shown walking backstage.

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

Kazarian is out now and he says all the turd burglars in the attendance witnessed the start of Bad Influences dominance of the BFG Series. Kazarian says he’s going to call out the man that many believe is the next breakout star in TNA and someone who Dixie Carter herself claims is the future. Kazarian calls Magnus out…mate. Pretty sure “mate” is something Australians say, right not Brits?

BFG Series Match
Magnus vs. Kazarian

Kaz tries to kick Magnus as he gets in the ring but he catches Kaz’s foot and then spins him around and nails him with a series of right hands. Magnus whips Kaz into the ropes and then clotheslines him over the top! In the back Hogan is talking on the phone about “3 new guys” to fill a void when Bully Ray walks up and interrupts him. Hogan says he’s glad that Bully finally grew a set of balls and if they’re going to do this thing they need to do it now. Bully asks Hogan if he looks like the kind of guy to hit someone in the back of the head with a hammer and then says he wants to talk to Brooke. Hogan says Bully & Brooke are done but Bully asks him why he thinks Brooke stopped Hogan from hitting him with the hammer.

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

Brooke Hogan comes down to the ring and she’s obviously special because she gets a podium in the ring. She says she’s so proud of the Knockouts and they are kicking ass right now. She says if the last few months are any indication of what’s to come then we’re in for a hot summer. She says there are a few Knockouts issues she has to address so she asks them to come down to the ring. Velvet Sky, ODB (with Eric Young), Gail Kim, and Taryn Terrell come down and yes ODB & EY are carrying the Knockouts Tag Titles. I don’t see Tara or Tessmacher anywhere and Mickie is nowhere to be seen until Mickie gets her own entrance. Mickie mockingly thanks Brooke for “allowing” her to speak on the state of the Knockouts division and that she is so proud to represent all the Knockouts as Champion. She brags about her new music video and how she’s the spokesperson for a national commercial and it’s a full time job just to be her. She says that carrying the weight of the Knockouts division on her shoulder is nowhere near as hard as trying to do it on Velvet’s knee.

Brooke tells Mickie that she will get to her but the Knockouts division isn’t about just one person. She says the first order of business is the Knockouts Tag Titles. She asks EY if he remembers the conversation they had about a year and a half ago. He says we’re all humans and we all make mistakes if you want to get technical he’s not really a woman. He says the truth is he’s the “toughest dude” standing in the ring and because of that technically they were never Knockouts Tag Champions and then hands the belts over to Brooke. He says the good news is that it’s National Kissing Day and he starts making out with ODB. ODB & EY go to the back to finish that up I guess.

Brooke says the Knockouts division is about competition and she congratulates Velvet for being the heart of the division for having some much heart and fighting through injuries. She says that she knows Vevlet wants her rematch but before she says anything else Mickie interrupts her. Mickie says that “this little pigeon is hurt” so she can’t wrestle. Brooke says she spoke to Velvet’s doctor and she has a clean bill of health so they can duke it out next week.

Gail says Brooke forgot about the most important Knockout in TNA history and she wants her rematch and what is hers. Brooke says that everyone is talking about Gail & Terrell’s match at Slammiversary so she is proud of Gail too. Brooke says Gail will get her “rematch” and it will be in Vegas in a Ladder Match but against Taryn Terrell not Mickie!

AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe in the BFG Series is NEXT!

Hogan talks to Brooke in the parking lot and he says he needs her to leave because Bully wants to turn things into a circus tonight.

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

Jeff Hardy is shown working out backstage before a commercial for his Workout App is shown.

BFG Series Match
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe

So apparently someone in TNA listens to me because now they are lowering the lights (yes I know it was common sense to start doing that but let me have this) and it does make the entrance that much better. This is the renewal of one of the greatest rivalries in TNA history. These two have faced each other countless times in everything from Ultimate X Matches to Ladder Matches for the World Title and the X-Division Title. AJ grabs the microphone before Joe comes out and says this is real simple and it isn’t about Aces & Eights or TNA, it’s about AJ. He says it’s about him becoming the next World Heavyweight Champion. AJ says it’s not for the fame or even the glory but for the money that comes with it. AJ says everyone is looking for a hero but if he’s learned one thing in TNA for the past 11 years is that this is no place for a hero. AJ says in case anyone missed it the first time he said it he’s sick and tired of doing the right thing, now he’s doing his own thing. AJ and Joe circle each other and Joe attempts a leg kick but AJ quickly avoids it. AJ then goes for a leg kick of his own but Joe checks it. AJ and Joe then both go for some jabs with Joe catching AJ as he avoids one of AJ! Joe sends AJ into the corner and connects with a series of strikes and then he winds up for a Palm Thrust, but AJ ducks and then lights Joe up with chops. AJ puts Joe in a side headlock and Joe attempts to shove AJ off but AJ holds onto the headlock and takes Joe down to the mat. Joe fights back again and rolls AJ over but AJ holds onto the headlock the whole time. Joe fights back up to his feet and tries to break the hold with a Suplex but AJ counters into a side headlock takeover and again he holds onto the headlock on the mat. Joe is able to finally counter by using his leg to get him in a headscissors. AJ fights out and charges at Joe but runs into a shoulder block. Joe then hits the ropes and goes for a Mafia Kick, but AJ sidesteps him and Joe gets his leg hung in the ropes. AJ kicks the leg repeatedly and then chops Joe. AJ hits Joe with a series of forearms and then he attempts to whip Joe into the corner, but Joe reverses it and then charges at AJ. AJ gets his boot up and then connects with a clothesline. Sometime I just want to choke Taz. Mike Tenay tries his hardest to get Taz to talk about AJ’s new style being more “aggressive” but Taz offers his unbelievable insight by saying “no it’s not, it’s more damaging.” I’m serious. AJ hits a Back Suplex and then he connects with a series of leg kicks. AJ backs Joe into the corner but Joe fights out with body shots and then shoves AJ into the corner. Joe charges at AJ with an attempt at a Running Back Elbow, but AJ escapes through the ropes and then grabs Joe. Joe shoves his arms away and then nails AJ with a Leaping Enziguri! AJ falls down on the floor and then Joe sets up for a dive but AJ quickly rolls back into the ring and Joe lands on his feet. AJ goes for a Plancha but Joe moves and AJ lands on the apron. Joe then hits a roundhouse kick taking AJ’s legs out from under him! AJ crashes hard on the apron!

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

Back from the break Joe is keeping the pressure on AJ with a Knee Drop for a nearfall. Joe hits a series of forearms and then a back elbow as AJ tries to charge at him. Joe hits a series of headbutts and strikes and then he bounces off the ropes but runs into the Phenomenal Dropkick! Joe flies through the ropes and then AJ goes flying through the ropes with a dropkick! Christy Hemme announces that there are 5 minutes remaining in the time limit. AJ tosses Joe back in the ring and then hits the Springboard Flying Forearm! 1…2…NO Joe kicks out! AJ goes for a Suplex but Joe blocks it and goes for one of his own. AJ counters and lands on his feet. AJ kicks Joe and then connects with a kind of Sliding Uppercut for a nearfall. AJ climbs up top and Joe charges at him but AJ dives over him and rolls to his feet. AJ then charges at Joe and runs into the Snap Powerslam! 1…2…NO AJ kicks out and Joe locks in a Cross Armbreaker! AJ hooks his hands together to keep from Joe locking it completely in and then he rolls over and gets his foot on the bottom rope to break the hold. Joe picks AJ up and lifts him to the top rope. Joe goes for the Muscle Buster but AJ fights it off with right hands. Joe destroys AJ with a nasty Backfist! Joe climbs up with AJ attempts a Superplex but AJ counters it in midair into a splash! Both men are down now. Both men get to their feet and AJ unloads with a series of strikes capping it off with a Spinning Back Fist but when he sets up for the Lariat Joe catches him with a jab to the face! Joe hits a series of disgusting rights and lefts sending him in the corner. Joe then unloads a series of knees until AJ grabs Joe’s knee and rolls him up into the Calf Killa! AJ has Joe in the middle of the ring! Joe is able to reach back and grab AJ’s head locking in the Coquina Clutch! Joe has AJ in the center of the ring now! AJ is able to roll backwards into a bridge! 1…2…NO Joe kicks out and as a result has to release the Coquina Clutch! Only a minute left in the time limit. AJ connects with a big right hand and then another one but Joe answers with a series of nasty slaps and knees! Joe hits a CRAZY forearm and then AJ answers with a series of forearms as well! Joe takes AJ down and they start brawling on the mat as Joe goes for the Coquina Clutch again as the time expires! AJ doesn’t give a damn and sucker punches Joe! A huge “let them fight” chant breaks out as they brawl around before finally backing down. AJ’s nose is busted and the look on his face is crazy right now.

Winner: DRAW

In the back Bully Ray talks to someone on the phone who tells him that they left because “he told you too.” Bully then says “Brooke…I need to see you tonight” and tells her to come back so he can talk to her. Bully then says Brooke is coming back to Aces & Eights and he tells Devon to take some members and make sure she gets back.

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

In the back Hogan talks to Kenny King, Suicide, & Chris Sabin. He says they’re having a rematch next week for the belt and says it’s an opportunity of a lifetime because whoever is the champion will make the decision of whether they cash in the X-Division Title for a shot at the World Title at Destination X on July 18th.

Main Event
BFG Series Match
“The IT Factor” Bobby Roode vs. “Charismatic Enigma” Jeff Hardy

These two had a rivalry early last year over the World Heavyweight Championship when Roode was World Champ and they are the winners of the first two BFG Series. As Hardy makes his entrance Roode meets him on the ramp and the fight is on! Hardy tosses Roode into the ring and hits a Flying Forearm! Hardy splashes Roode in the corner and then attempts to whip him into the opposite corner, but Roode reverses it and charges at Hardy. Hardy floats up into a Spinning Headscissors on Roode out of the corner! Hardy then hits an Atomic Drop and takes Roode down. Roode reaches up and grabs Hardy’s arm and locks in the Crossface! Hardy fights to the ropes and grabs it to break the hold. Roode releases the hold and then puts the boots to him. Roode then Catapults Hardy into the middle rope damn near decapitating him! Hardy falls out to the floor and Roode follows him out. Roode slams Hardy into the apron and then tosses him back into the ring. Roode hits a Vertical Suplex and then a Knee Drop for a nearfall. Roode puts the boots to Hardy and then tosses him into the turnbuckles. Roode chops Hardy and then whips him into the opposite corner. Roode hits a Corner Clothesline and then lights Hardy up with chops. Roode whips Hardy again into the ropes and charges but this time Hardy catches him with a back elbow and then his boots. Hardy climbs up top and dives off with a Splash! 1…2…NO Roode kicks out! Hardy is limping now and it looks like that back/hip area is bothering him that he injured a few weeks ago. Hardy attempts to whip Roode into the corner but Roode reverses it and when Hardy goes for the Floatover Headscissors again Roode catches him on his shoulders. Whatever Roode was going for Hardy blocks it and then hits an Atomic Drop followed by a takedown and then a Leg Drop to the nuts followed by a sliding dropkick! 1…2…NO Roode kicks out! Hardy goes for the Twist but Roode blocks it and catches Hardy with the Double-R Spinebuster! 1…2…NO Hardy kicks out! Roode stalks Hardy and then goes for the Payoff, but Hardy blocks it and counters into the Twist of Fate! Hardy climbs up top and attempts the Swanton Bomb, but Roode rolls out of the way! Roode then jumps on Hardy and slaps the Crossface on! Hardy is able to roll Roode over into a pin, 1…2…NO Roode kicks out! Hardy goes for a clothesline but Roode catches his arm and goes for the Crossface again, but Hardy rolls through and into the Twist of Fate! 1…2…3!

Winner: Hardy via pinfall (Twist of Fate)

Backstage Sting says the night is still young and he has some “family business” to take care of.

—-COMMERCIAL BREAK—-

Bully Ray talks about the BFG Series and then mentions the X-Division Champion gets to cash in his title for a shot at the belt which means there are 15 guys coming after him (12 in the BFG Series, 3 in the X-Division Title Match next week). Ray says he’ll do everything and anything to keep that belt and then talks about all the things he’s done to Hogan and Sting. He says the last thing anyone wants to do is face him. He says tonight is Open Fight Night so he wants to call someone out, but he doesn’t want to fight because he’s a lover not a fighter. He calls out Brooke but instead the Main Event Mafia’s music hits!

Sting walks out but he’s alone. Sting says he realizes there is no lone wolf that can pierce the Aces & Eights so that’s why he went back to his family. The fans chant for Sting and Bully screams at them to shut their mouths. Ray says they are chanting for a guy that lost to him. Ray asks Sting what he would know about family and he says he beat Sting “singlehandedly” and he’s the reason Bully will never get a shot at the belt again.

Sting says he can’t get a shot at that belt but he CAN get retribution on Ray and even get it tonight! Ray says Sting has nothing left in his tank as Sting starts taking his tie off. Ray says all he has to do is snap his fingers and HIS family comes out right now. Sting takes his jacket off and folds it up in the corner. Ray says if he snaps his fingers then his brothers will come out and snap Sting’s neck. Ray then snaps his fingers and tells Aces & Eights to get out to the ring.

None of the members come out and Sting throws his shirt at Bully. Ray again screams for Aces & Eights but then Sting points at the big screen. All the members of Aces & Eights are shown to be laid out with and then Sting decks Bully! Ray retreats up the ramp and Kurt Angle spears Bully! Angle locks in the Angle Lock as Sting talks trash to him!
