CMLL Crowns New Super Lightweight Champion

This week CMLL decided to bring back the CMLL Super Lightweight Championship which has been vacant since late 2006. The new champion was crowned at the 04/07 Arena Mexico show with Mascara Dorada winning a Torneo Cibernetico to become the 6th champion (actually the 4th different person to hold the belt). The belt was created in 2003 and a Torneo Cibernetico was also held to crown the first champion. Rocky Romero won the match last eliminating Volador Jr. to become the 1st champion on 09/12/03. He held the belt until 11/14/03 when Virus defeated him to win the belt. Virus went on to lose the belt back to Romero on 12/10/04 (after only defending it one other time) and Romero dropped it to Tommy Williams in late 2005. Romero then won the belt for the 3rd time on 01/20/06 but shortly after Romero left CMLL and the title became vacant.

Texano Jr. defeats Atlantis to win NWA Light Heavyweight Title

Texano is the 65th champion in it’s existence and he ends Atlantis? almost 5 year run with the belt! Atlantis was the longest reigning champion in the belts history and longest reigning current champion in CMLL. He had 13 successful defenses of the belt (defeating the likes of Dr. Wagner Jr., Rey Bucanero, Blue Panther, Perro Aguayo Jr., Alex Koslov, Ultimo Dragon, Shocker, & others) before Texano got the win. This is Texano Jr.’s first singles title (he is also currently the Occidente Tag Champ along with El Terrible). I didn?t include the show results where this match took place because it hasn?t been put up online yet (I?m sure I?ll have them next week).

Mistico Returning to Japan along with Misterioso II in May!

NJPW announced this week that CMLL stars Mistico and Misterioso II would be coming for along on their May tour for two shows. This is, to my knowledge, Misterioso II’s debut in Japan. On May 5th in a huge Trios Match Mistico will be teaming with IWGP Heavyweight Champion: Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tiger Mask IV to face Giant Beranrd (formerly Albert in WWE), Black Tiger (I’m guessing the new one since Rocky Romero was just unmasked), and Misterioso II. The next night on May 6th Mistico will team up with Hiroshi Tanahashi to face Hirooki Goto & Misterioso II in an explosive tag team bout!

Black Abyss Reflects on Abismo Negro

Abismo Negro’s primary rival over the last few years has been Black Abyss (which is roughly the English translation of Abismo Negro). He spoke very fondly about Abismo Negro saying he owed alot to his former rival and mentor. He also said that Abismo helped to train him and that he would continue to wrestle under the Black Abyss name as a tribute to Abismo Negro.

Juventud Guerrera Speaks Further on Konnan Incident

This Wednesday Juventud Guerrera was a guest on In Your Head Radio and he spoke in detail about the incident between he and Jack Evans. According to Juventud he returned from his match and found his bag with the ‘crap’ in it. He approached the owners about, who were in shock, and then approached Konnan about it and Konnan sucker punched him. Jack Evans then ran over and continued the assault for several mintues along with Jack with no one breaking it up. Juventud said that he will not stop fighting this until Konnan is removed from AAA and possibly even Mexico. He says that he is starting up a big show and wants any Mexican or American wrestlers to contact him through his e-mail (dejuice@gmail.com) if they wish to appear on the show. He will also continue to wrestle in Europe and in the Perros del Mal show. He also said he’s open to wrestle anywhere in America or Mexico at this point. To listen to the full interview go to In Your Head’s website: http://www.inyourheadonline.com/

Rocky Romero Unmasked In Japan

AAA star Rocky Romero wrestled as Black Tiger in Japan this past weekend and lost the mask in a Title vs. Mask Match. Tiger Mask IV put his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title on the line but pinned Black Tiger after the Tiger Suplex and then forced Black Tiger to unmask! Of course he was Rocky Romero, but directly after the match Black Tiger V (the new one) attacked Tiger Mask IV. I?m unsure who the new Black Tiger was but I?m hearing he wasn?t a foreigner this time.

INDY & OTHER NEWS

Luchadores Impress in Ring of Honor

The contention of luchadores (Alex Koslov, Blue Demon Jr., Incognito, & Magno) invaded Ring of Honor’s Wrestlemania-Weekend Shows this past weekend and were said to impress for the most part. On the first night, “Supercard of Honor IV”, Magno teamed with Kevin Steen & Jay Briscoe to defeat Incognito and his partners: Chris Hero & Eddie Edwards in a 6 man tag. Early on in the match the top rope broke but Magno still managed to pull off an impresive springboard hurricanrana from the loose middle rope. Magno then climbed to the only top turnbuckle still connected and performed a perfect Moonsault to everybody on the floor. Shortly after Hero hit Magno with the Rolling Elbow for the pin. NWA World Heavyweight Champion: Blue Demon Jr. took part in a Four Corner Survival Match against Claudio Castagnoli, Brent Albright, and El Generico. Demon was able to hit his usual stuff including a big dive but in the end Claudio got the pin on Albright with a rollup. Koslov then faced Bryan Danielson in a special challenge match. After what was said to be a very impressive match (there was a fire alarm that was pulled during it yet noone got up and left) Koslov was forced to submit to the Cattle Mutilation. On night 2, “Take No Prisoners PPV”, Magno once again teamed with Jay Briscoe & Kevin Steen but this time El Generico joined them as they faced the team of Incognito, the American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards), & Chris Hero in an 8-Man Tag Match. It was said to be a wild match that saw tons of high flying spots, but in the end Magno and Briscoe hit a double team Spike Piledriver on Hero for the pin. Blue Demon Jr. was scheduled to team with Brent Albright to face Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli, but due to Nigel’s serious arm injury (he dropped the belt to Jerry Lynn the night before) he was unable to compete. So it resulted in a short Handicap match with Blue Demon and Albright beating Castagnoli after a release suplex from Albright. Alex Koslov then impressed once again in a match against Roderick Strong once again submitted to a Boston Crab this time from Strong. The fans chanted “please come back” to Koslov after the match. The DVD’s of the first show should be released in a month or two while the other show will appear on PPV in a few months.

Lucha Libre Makes Appearence on CSI

I told you guys about Lucha Libre being the main focus of CSI’s 200th episode last week, well here is a link to watch the full episode for those that haven’t seen it: click here. Thanks to reader, William Hatfield, for providing the link! The episode is called “Mascara” and focuses on a young lady who is apparently murder by a masked man after leaving a lucha libre show. It shows several scenes of luchadores in the ring facing it other as well as some dope masks. I do not believe any real luchadores were used in the show other than Aaron Aguilera (Jesus in WWE) who portrayed a major character in the show. I won’t spoil it for anyone but it was a pretty decent show and easy to keep up with even for people like myself who have never seen CSI.
