Experiencing Arena Mexico/Lucha Libre

There is a great blog at this link where the writer describes his visit to Mexico and his venture into seeing Lucha Libre for the first time at the historic Arena Mexico. From watching the show in the arena, to seeing the wrestlers backstage, and even buying bootleg t-shirts outside of the arena (random story, Chris Jericho said in his “Lion’s Tale” book that the very first t-shirt every made of him was by a Mexican bootlegger and the guy actually made Jericho buy one from him rather than give him one). He has great pictures of the show, the wrestlers, and of Arena Mexico in the story as well. Arena Mexico is one of the places I have on my “Bucket List” of things I want to experience before I die. Most people dream about seeing a game at Madison Square Garden or one at Yankee Stadium, but I’ve always wanted to see CMLL at Arena Mexico (as well as my Alabama Crimson Tide in Bryant-Denny Stadium but I’ve experienced that one several times). Everyone says it’s a must for any true Lucha Libre fan.

* NOTES *
– CMLL did an absolutely HORRIBLE job of explaining the tournament beforehand so if you’re confused don’t worry. Here we go. A Battle Royal sets up the seeding for the tournament. Then we have 4 1st Round Tag Team Matches. The winners of those matches move onto the Quarterfinals. Then those winners move on to the Semifinals. The winning team of the Semifinals then faces each other in a one-on-one match. The winner of the Finals singles match (Volador Jr.) then moves onto the finals of the Copa Bicentenario to face the winner of the Tecnicos Block this week. Hopefully I explained it well enough.
– Mascara Dorada makes his history becoming a quadruple champion. I said last week (falsely) that it would be a record, but I was wrong because Mistico actually held 5 belts at the same time a few years ago. Dorada is, however, the only man in wrestling today with four belts. Dorada is definitely giving La Sombra a run for his money on which one is having the bigger year.

AAA

AAA Stars to NOAH

It was announced this past weekend that AAA stars, Jack Evans & Extreme Tiger, will be heading to Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan to take part in NOAH’s Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Tournament which takes place from 10/15 through 10/30. Tiger & Evans will be tagging up for the tournament.

AAA Shuts Down Magazine
This week AAA announced that they were going to cease print of their magazine, Dos de Tres, after the 2 year long run of AAA’s official magazine. No reason was given as to why (though I’m sure the hurt, financially, that’s going on with print media these days is to blame).

– Look at that second match. Remember back at TripleMania when Relampago cost Tiger the Cruiserweight Title? Yeah, the thing that AAA absolutely ignored completely following it. They finally are in the same match together but they’re teaming instead of on opposite sides. Even a blind man can see Relampago turning on Tiger and joining La Militia from a mile away.
– If anyone interferes in the Main Event then that person is suspended for 90 days without pay.
