R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero

This past weekend (November 13th) marked the 5 year anniversary of the untimely passing of the legendary Eddie Guerrero. The WWE Hall of Famer and Lucha Libre legend died on November 13, 2005 at the age of 38. His wife (Vickie) and nephew (Chavo Jr.) both are still employed by the WWE and his brother (Hector) is employed by TNA Wrestling (as a Spanish Announcer and former manager of L.A.X.). Last month his oldest daughter, Shaul, was signed by the WWE to a developmental deal as well. As some of you may have already realized the name of my column (“Viva la Raza”) was a tribute to Eddie as I grew up watching Eddie from the first time I saw him in WCW to the bootleg Lucha Libre tapes I borrowed from my cousin as a kid, he always amazed me with his ability and charisma. He will always be one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. Bill Apter of www.1wrestling.com posted a great video of Hector, Mondo, & Chavo Guerrero Sr. speaking candidly about their fallen brother. It’s an excellent video and you can watch it below:

R.I.P. Eddie you are still missed!

Mascara Dorada Suffers Minor Knee Injury, Stripped of Title
On Monday night Mascara Dorada suffered a knee injury in his match at Arena Puebla and went to the hospital after he toughed it out in the match. They diagnosed him with a minor knee injury and he needs to take at least 2 weeks off. That was his first match after his tour in Japan. In unrelated news he was stripped of his third of the Mexican National Trios Titles due to him focusing on “other things.” In a weird move, CMLL isn’t stripping the whole team but instead are holding a poll on CMLL.com with the winner being the 3rd champion with Stuka Jr. & Metro.

Hernandez/TNA/AAA Rumors

I went back and forth all week on whether I was even going to talk about this. For the past week rumors have been going around the internet about Hernandez and his situation with TNA and AAA. The rumors said that TNA wanted to bring Hernandez back into the storylines in the company immediately but Hernandez was happy in AAA and wanted to remain there. Also, the rumor is that his contract with TNA Wrestling runs up in December. I spoke to a VERY reliable source (and yes I have a real source on this issue unlike several of the sites out there) earlier this week and my source confirmed that a certain TNA official “dropped the ball” in regards to TNA and admitted this was a nightmare for TNA, but this is how it is. Hopefully in the end TNA can work things out with Hernandez because losing a great, young talent like that would be horrible for them. Also, what would this mean regarding TNA’s relationship with AAA?

Sexy Star to Japan
This past weekend AAA announced via their website that former AAA Reina de Reinas Champion, Sexy Star, would be traveling to Japan at the end of the month for a 3-day tour of the country. She’s listed as working for “Super FMW” (teaming with Cherry Bomb to face the team of Kaori Yoneyama & Kuroki) on 11/27, “NEO” on 11/28, and “JYOSHI4 HOPE” on 11/30. I’m not sure about any of those promotions, I’ve never heard of them.

INDY & OTHER NEWS

TJ Perkins/Puma Returning to TNA

This week former TNA X-Division wrestler, TJ Perkins, announced via his twitter that he had signed on to return to TNA for 4 dates in January (and possibly more after that). Perkins previously competed in TNA under the Puma mask and competed in both World X-Cups. Perkins has also competed for Dragon Gate USA recently and has wrestled for CMLL in Mexico and New Japan in the past. He also wrestled under the Sydistiko mask earlier this year in Lucha Libre USA. Hopefully this is the start of TNA actually rebuilding the X-Division.

LL-USA announced on their website that in January they will be releasing their first line of action figures! So far, the only stars confirmed in the line are Lizmark Jr., Sydistiko, Marco Corleone, Super Nova, & Charly Malice. Pics of the action figures are below.
