Mistico Signs with WWE

All the rumors started this weekend about Mistico signing with the WWE and I tried my best to keep everyone updated here on WrestleView courtesy of Adam Martin. It all started Saturday when SuperLuchas released their newest Magazine which announced on the cover that Mistico had signed with the WWE. The rumors about this had started about this last year even before the Japan trip. We’ve now learned that Mistico had a Try-out with the WWE late last year without CMLL’s permission and impressed WWE officials and Mistico let CMLL know even before the trip to Japan that he was leaving. Mistico flew to the U.S. last week to sign his contract and didn’t let CMLL know until after the deal was done. Almost immediately CMLL removed most everything that had Mistico’s name or face on their website, but then came back on Saturday night and company officials denied that Mistico had signed with WWE. Going as far as releasing a Press Conference on the subject. Another reporter spoke to Mistico himself Monday and Mistico confirmed the WWE deal was one. Dave Meltzer then revealed that Mistico was expected to start in FCW sometime in February this month. The only questions really now are what will Mistico be called in WWE and will he wear a mask? Also, what will CMLL do with the Mistico gimmick since they own it. Some have suggested they may just put someone else under the mask but that would probably not be a great idea. One other thing to note is that Mistico will now be in FCW with the “Mystico” (or Incognito) who now wrestles as Hunico in FCW. He claimed that CMLL and Mistico stole the name and gimmick from him. This is a big loss for CMLL but it’s not devastating because they DO have the new young tecnicos like La Sombra and Mascara Dorada who could end up being as big as Mistico potentially. It’s a bigger loss for Lucha FANS, but a gain for American fans and WWE fans. We can all just now hope that the WWE doesn’t water Mistico down, unmask him, or treat him like the Mexicools now. I’m sure everyone looks at the success of Alberto del Rio and automatically assume Mistico will have the same success. It’s not guaranteed, del Rio has one big thing (that’s huge in Vince McMahon’s eyes) that Mistico doesn’t: size. One thing he does have on his side is Rey Mysterio who has reportedly said that he wants Mistico to be the guy he passes the torch to.

Mr. Aguila vs. Rey Bucanero in L.A.
At this past weekends big WrestleReunion festival in Los Angeles Mr. Aguila and Rey Bucanero faced off at PWG’s “Kurt RussellReunion 2” event. The two were said to have had a great back and forth lucha match with Aguila going over Bucanero in the end. Also, the Guerrero brothers: Mondo & Chavo Sr. wrestled in a Legends Battle Royal.

This week DG-USA announced they will be holding a first ever “Stable Shootout” at the April 2nd event in Burlington, North Carolina. The Shootout will involve 3 stages which will pit Blood Warriors members Naruki Doi, CIMA, & Ricochet against Ronin members Chuck Taylor, Johnny Gargano, & Rich Swann. The two teams will get to put each other through special challenge matches in each stage. The stages are below:
– STAGE 1: Each team will pick a member and the two will face off one-on-one.
– STAGE 2: This will be a Dream Partner Tag Team Match. Each team gets to pick one member from their team and then another wrestler OUTSIDE the group to form a Dream Tag Team to face each other in a special Tag Match.
– STAGE 3: In the final Stage there will be two matches. Each stable will get to book a member of the opposite stable in a one-on-one match against ANY available wrestler on the roster!

DG-USA 01/29 “United: Philly” iPPV Results
1) Open the Freedom Gate Title: YAMATO (c) def. Brodie Lee to retain the title!
2) Rich Swann def. Jimmy Jacobs
3) Six-Way Freestyle: Sami Callihan def. AR Fox, Cheech, Jigsaw, Frightmare, & Rexx Reed
4) Akira Tozawa def. Austin Aries

7) Open the United Gate Titles Tournament: Masato Yoshino & PAC def. Naruki Doi & Ricochet
* NOTES *
– Homicide didn’t make it to the show for some reason.
– After the 2 Tournament matches bout Yoshino/PAC and Taylor/Gargano have 4 points a piece and CIMA/Kid and Doi/Ricochet have 0 which eliminates those two teams from a chance at winning the belts. That leaves it down to PAC/Yoshino and Taylor/Gargano.

DG-USA 01/30 “United: Finale” Union City, NJ Results
1) Brodie Lee def. Rich Swann
2) AR Fox def. Cheech
3) Akira Tozawa def. BxB Hulk
4) No Rules: Jon Moxley def. Homicide
5) Rexx Reed def. Pinkie (Pink Ant) Sanchez
6) CIMA, Naruki Doi, Dragon Kid, & Ricochet def. Jimmy Jacobs, Austin Aries, YAMATO, & Sami Callihan
7) Open the United Gate Titles Tournament Finals: Masato Yoshino & PAC def. Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor to become the FIRST United Gate Champions!
* NOTES *
– CIMA & Dragon Kid were supposed to face Naruki Doi & Ricochet in a Tournament Match, but they came out after the first match (when Brodie destroyed Swann) and said that they were all brothers so they wouldn’t face each other. Really, both teams had 0 points and the other two teams both had 4 so that match would have been pointless. So they set a big 8-Man Tag Team Match pitting Blood Warriors (CIMA, Dragon Kid, Naruki Doi, & Ricochet) against Jimmy Jacobs and 3 partners of his choosing, after he came out and challenged them. Throughout the night Jacobs went around looking for his partners.
– Tozawa-Hulk was said to have been an early Match of the Year Candidate.
– Homicide hit Moxley with a Cop Killa in their match but instead of pinning him, he actually pulled Moxley on top of him to give Moxley the win. Homicide then said he doesn’t give a sh*t about wins and losses and he did that to prove it. He then grabbed some scissors and said he was going to shut Moxley up for good. He “attempted” to cut Moxley’s tongue out but Tozawa came out to make the save.
– The 8-Man Tag was said to have been “amazing.”
– Same goes for the Tag Team Finals. PAC and Yoshino are the first ever Open the United Gate Champions and both are now double champions. PAC is also the Open the Brave Gate Champion and Yoshino is also the Open the Dream Gate Champion. After the match Ronin snatched the belts away from World-1, but then they handed them back and shook their hands.

* NOTES *
– Apache Girls vs. Los Traumas was said to have been great and the fans threw money into the ring. Video of the match is below (courtesy of Black Terry Jr.):

– I have a few things to say about this. The first and this is always true when it comes to the Apache sisters. The best thing about this match was the lack of hesitation in it. When you ever get a match where women and men interact or get physical at all, you get times where spots seem awkward or as if the guy or girl is hesitant to put their hand in certain places or to touch that spot. That’s not here at all. Also, you get the hesitation with the males to pull punches or to not be as physical, that’s not here at all. Los Traumas treat the women as if they were just another male tag team out there and the Apache’s are never going to pull any punches. Overall it’s a really good match, in fact probably one of the best male vs. female matches I’ve seen. You have to love the lack of ego here by the Traumas. Regardless of how talented a female wrestler is (and the Apaches are beyond talented) they are always going to be seen as inferior to males and the Traumas take this loss clean. That’s one of the top young tag teams in wrestling too.
