Bizarre CMLL Protest

On Friday morning (06/17) several buses parked right in front of Arena Mexico’s entrance blocking it off. Former CMLL star Tony Rivera led a protest group called El Barzon Popular (which is a well known Mexican group that has served many protests). There was a little over 100 people there for the protest but Rivera is the only wrestler believed to be there. Rivera claimed to be protesting for all luchadors as well as older luchadors or are now confined to wheel chairs. He also claimed that CMLL wrongfully fired him and that the split of revenue in CMLL was disgusting. At first they claimed that they wouldn’t move the buses until a meeting with CMLL owner Paco Alonso was set up (haha yeah right). They also threatened to do this at ever Arena Mexico show until Alonso gave them their meeting. Rivera went on to claim that CMLL offered him 9,000 pesos ($756 U.S.) to leave but that wasn’t enough. So you claim that you’re doing this for all of the luchadors, especially ones that are injured yet you are asking for money for YOURSELF?! How ridiculous is this? CMLL released a press release that said Rivera was fired “with cause” and all of his claims are bogus and that the show would go on as planned. One of the Barzon leaders Cresencio Morales claimed to be demanded 2,000,000 pesos ($160,000 U.S.) in one of the most ridiculous and “ain’t gonna’ happen” things I’ve ever heard. Eventually at about 3:00 p.m. (central time) the buses had left and SuperLuchas reported that River had a meeting with CMLL management (no Paco Alonso mention) and that he would meet with them again on Monday morning, but no money was mentioned.

CMLL’s Mascara Dorada will remain in Japan for the Trios Tournament and both Hector Garza (07/08-07/18) and Strong Man (07/03-07/18) will be spending the bulk of July in Japan’s NJPW as well. Mascara Dorada Wins Welterweight Title Back
This past weekend (06/18) CMLL’s Mascara Dorada regained his CMLL World Welterweight Title when he beat Ryusuke Taguchi for the belt. Dorada becomes the 26th champion in the belts history and this is his 2nd reign. Taguchi held the belt for 6 months and successfully defended it twice in Japan. He is one of 3 Japanese stars to hold that belt previously (joining NOSAWA and Super Delfin).

Mascara Dorada in Japan
After the Best of Super Jr.’s Tournament, CMLL star Mascara Dorada remains in Japan for the “J-Sorts Crown 6-Man Openweight Tag Team Tournament” where he will be teaming with Hiroshi Tanahashi & KUSHIDA. Dorada’s team won their 1st Round match against TNA’s Brian Kendrick & Jado & Gedo, but fell to the team of Bad Intentions & Jushin Liger in the Semifinals. That team eventually made it to the Finals but fell to Apollo 555 (Hirooki Goto, Prince Devitt, & Ryusuke Taguchi). Dorada’s final match of his Japanese tour was a crazy 10-Man Tag which saw him team with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tiger Mask IV, Tenzan, & Wataru Inoue, but the team fell to Tanaka, Yujiro, Jado, Gedo, & Dick Togo. Dorada now returns to Mexico with his CMLL Welterweight Title.
– J-Sports Crown 1st Round: Mascara Dorada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, & KUSDHIA def. Brian Kendrick, Jado, & Gedo (06/21)
– J-Sports Crown Quarterfinals: Giant Bernard, Karl Anderson, & Jushin Thunder Liger def. Mascara Dorada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, & KUSHIDA (06/22)
– Masato Tanaka, Yujiro, Jado, Gedo, & Dick Togo def. Mascara Dorada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Wataru Inoue, & Tiger Mask IV

* NOTES *
– Pics courtesy of CMLL.com.
– Attendance was said to have been about 14,000:

– La Sombra led his team to victory:

– Averno went all out in what is likely his final big match in CMLL as he and Mascara hit each other with everything they had and went at it for over 30 minutes:

– In the end Mascara hit Averno with his own Devils Wings followed by La Campana to get the win in the 3rd fall:

– Averno loses his mask to La Mascara and surprisingly this was only the 2nd Mask Match Averno has had under the “Averno” name (I hadn’t realized that before hand) and 4th Mask vs. Mask Match overall. This was his first loss. This was La Mascara’s 3rd Mask Match and his 3rd win. Averno’s real name is Renato Ruiz Cortez and he’s 34 years old (16 years as a wrestler):

– In a bit of bad news for those of us not fortunate to be among the 14,000 in attendance, CMLL will NOT be airing the Main Event on TV for several months. They announced this last week. It’s a way for them to try and get more people to show up at the shows by not showing the big matches on TV for “free.” This is extremely disappointing for Lucha fans not in Mexico City.

AAA

AAA/TNA Info

Last week AAA redesigned their website and in the new layout interestingly enough the “TNA” logo is present underneath the AAA logo alongside AAA partners SuperLuchas.net and Corona.

Also, in the post TripleMania press conference they teased Jeff Jarrett vs. Dr. Wagner Jr., and Zorro said that he was going to go to TNA to get revenge on Jarrett. The thing is the storyline with Jarrett has him leaving TNA for the time being “moving to Mexico.” There are rumors that Zorro is definitely done with AAA for awhile but it’s unclear for what reason. There have been rumors of an injury for awhile and the poor shape he was in at TripleMania may lean to that. Then again, he could very well be heading to TNA which has been another rumor for almost a year now. TNA Officials were present backstage at “TripleMania” as well.

AAA 06/18 “TripleMania XIX” PPV Results
1) Aerostar, Argos, Fenix, & Sugi San def. Dark Dragon, Decnnis, Tigre Cota, & Tito Santana II
2) Mickie James, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, & Sexy Star def. Fabi Apache, Mari Apache, Cinthia Moreno, & Lolita
3) Tables, Ladders, & Chairs War: Electroshock, Heavy Metal, & Joe Lider def. Silver Kain, Ultimo Gladiador, & Chessman
4) Cibernetico, Charly Manson, Escoria, & Billy el Malo def. La Parka Jr., Octagon, Drago, & Ozz

6) AAA Trios Titles Tournament Finals: Damian666, Halloween, & X-Fly def. Monster Clown, Murder Clown, & Psycho Clown to win the titles!
7) AAA World Heavyweight Title: Jeff Jarrett def. El Zorro (c) to win the title!
8) Mask vs. Hair Match: L.A. Park def. El Mesias
9) AAA Latin America Title: Dr. Wagner Jr. def. Rob Van Dam to win the title!
* NOTES *
– All pics courtesy of luchalibreaaa.com.
– The gorgeous TripleMania set:

– Opener was a dark match that I HOPE makes TV or at least the DVD release.
– Argos flies!:

– Before the PPV opener Konnan & Joaquin Roldan came out and said that if anyone ran out tonight and interfered in ANY match they would be suspended (they had previously said fired).
– The Beautiful People reunite in Mexico:

– Mickie James makes her AAA debut with the Knockouts Title belt:

– Fabi Apache takes it to Mickie:

– Fabi & Mickie brawl:

– Knockouts & Sexy Star won their match when Mickie hit her Mickie-DT on Fabi for the clean win:

– Octagon was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame:

– For some reason Electroshock replaced Nicho in the TLC Match (disappointing). EVERYONE bled in this one:

– Metal was taken out early with an injury so Nicho ran out to help and put Chessman through a table with a Rolling Guilotine Leg Drop:

– Tecnicos get the win after Electro Powerbombed Chessman through a table:

– Nicho was suspended “indefinitely” for interfering. No idea if they are going to stick with the ‘suspension’ angle or if Nicho will show up on the next AAA taping. Then again this could be a good way to get him in TNA for a few weeks, most notably Destination X since they’re hyping up former X-Division stars showing up (Nicho was apart of the very FIRST X-Division Title Match as well as appearing several other times over the years).
– Drago hits a Springboard Corkscrew Moonsault:

– During the next match Taboo came out holding La Parka Jr.’s son hostage (yes he is really holding an axe at this kid’s damn head):

– This distraction allowed Cibernetico to Chokeslam Parka for the pin. Taboo then released Parka’s son and revealed then revealed that he (Taboo) was actually Parka’s brother (he really is) and that he was the one that passed the X-Ray’s way back of Parka’s son to Ciber. Storyline continuity!
– The X-Division Champion, Abyss, makes his 2nd TripleMania appearence:

– Evans & Tiger double team the TNA World Champ:

– Evans hits a Standing Moonsault on Abyss:

– Tiger did a huge dive off the cage onto Abyss:

– Tiger escaped and then Anderson escaped leaving Evans & Abyss. Eventually Abyss tried to escape but Evans Powerbombed him off the top onto some thumbtacks to retain the titles:

– This is a pretty big win for Evans & Tiger despite Anderson & Abyss not being a regular team. Anderson is the current TNA World Heavyweight Champion and Abyss is the X-Division Champion:

– In the Trios Titles Match, Perro was in fact replaced by X-Fly.
– This is why clowns freak me the hell out, they even have a mini Clown now!:

– A FLYING CLOWN!:

– This one got hardcore quick:

– They did a spot where Damian was Powerbombed onto an exploding table or something. In the end Halloween hit Psycho with a DVD through a table for the win to make Perros del Mal the very first AAA Trios Champions:

– El Zorro vs. Jeff Jarrett for the AAA Title:

– Jarrett takes Zorro out with the trusty guitar:

– Zorro took a page out of Jarrett’s rival Kurt Angle with the Ankle Lock:

– The new AAA World Heavyweight Champion:

– Hijo de L.A. Park was in his dads corner for the Mask vs. Hair Match. The wheelchair bound Pierroth also accompanied Park to the ring:

– This was a LONG match where the two used everything on each other and it got very bloody:

– Eventually Park hit Mesias with a pair of Brass Knuckles to KO Mesias and shave his hair:

– Park celebrates with locks of Mesias’ hair:

– In the Latin America Title Match Wagner came out to a big traditional Mexican musical performance:

– RVD came out draped in an American flag:

– Dr. Wagner III was in his dad’s corner as well. They got alot of time here and hit each other with everything:

– After RVD actually kicked out of the Wagner Driver, Wagner hit a Hanging Spike DDT to finally take RVD out:

– After the match Wagner celebrated with the AAA tecnicos and with Maricela Pena:

– Overall the PPV went well over 4 hours long which will probably be butchered and edited down on TV. TNA went 2-2 on the show but took AAA’s World Heavyweight Title. Jeff Jarrett was beat by Kurt Angle on Impact Wrestling last week and “sent to Mexico” so it’s unlikely Jarrett will just take the belt back to TNA. He will probably remain in AAA and defend it.

– After Oriental surprised Tinieblas by pinning him, Tineblas’ new group Sol ran out and beat down Oriental until Aguila ran out to make the save. Aguila then took out Oriental!
– To get into the Title Match Marco had to beat both Head Hunters which he did.
– RJ Brewer & The Right, Marco, & Lizmark came out to sign the contract for the 3-Way. Lizmark added stipulations to the match where if RJ lost The Right would have to disband and if Marco was pinned his head would be shaved! RJ said he didnt need The Right to win the belt which pissed off Petey & Rekon so they argued up the ramp. Marco then attacked Lizmark and left him lying in the ring.
– Aguila pinned Oriental clean in what was said to have been a great match.
– Pequeno Halloween came to the ring with Jay Lethal and Mini Park came with Medianoche for the Lethal-Media match. After Lethal’s win Halloween & Park shook hands and agreed to join up against Rebecca Reyes and her team at the Finale.
– Lizmark came back out and said he would retain his belt. Marco then came out followed by RJ Brewer. The two Americans attacked Lizmark and beat him down until Sol ran out and beat down Marco & Brewer. The lights went out and when they came back on Sol was standing in the ring surrounding Lizmark. Lizmark then raised his hands in the air followed by the rest of Sol signifying that Lizmark was now leading the group.
– Petey won the belts for The Right after a Canadian Destroyer on Rocky Romero.
– Halloween pinned Rebecca Reyes in the Minis vs. Chicas match.
– The 3-Way was said to have been a great match. Marco hit the Marc of Excellence on Lizmark but also hit the referee in the process. Sol ran out but Marco hit the Air Corleone over the top onto Sol taking them out! Marco slid back in the ring and Lizmark took him out with a cane shot. Announcer (and former WWE/ECW/TNA star) Stevie Richards then slid in the ring and Stevie Kicked Lizmark! He then rolled RJ over Lizmark and woke up the referee giving RJ the win and the title!
– The rest of The Right came out and the group celebrated with all the titles and the new member Stevie Richards.
– These were the last 3 shows of what is to be Season 2 of “Masked Warriors” with the final 3 matches being the finale.
– Alex Roberts of PWTorch compiled all of the results for this (and the rest of Season 2 of LL-USA as well). Roberts spoke with the LL-USA Head of Creative, Alex Abrahantes, after the show. Abrahantes said that all of the shows from December until this one would comprise the 13-episode Season of “Masked Warriors” and Season 3 would also be 13 episodes. When will Season 3 start taping? July 30th. When will season 2 begin airing? No one knows. LL-USA assures everyone that it WILL be airing but the problem is that neither MTV2 nor LL-USA has given us even a month of when they plan on airing Season, and now before (likely) we even hear when/if Season 2 will air they’re taping Season 3 in July.
