We are now in the Holidays…with Christmas, Hanukkah, and the New Year on their way.

As I ask each year, please e-mail any announcements about scheduled Holiday charitable-themed (fund-raisers for clothes, food pantries or Toys for Toys) wrestling or MMA events to bobmagee1@hotmail.com or my other e-mail address bobmagee856@gmail.com.

This Saturday is Cage 0f Death 13, the tenth Cage of Death held at the Asylum (ECW) Arena. CZW had held its two previous Cage of Death events in New Jersey, but realized it needed a larger venue for the 2001 edition, and thus came to the ECW Arena. They needed a bigger venue, all right, but had no idea how much bigger. The Arena was sold out with fans actually turned away at what became the biggest show in CZW history. Since 2005, Cage of Death has become CZW’s supershow to end each year. Since 2005, the promotion has given back to the Philadelphia community with holding the annual Toys for Tots drive at each Cage of Death show. It seems ironic that the promotion that takes heat for its violent style; is the one promotion in Philadelphia which has enthusiastically welcomed Toys for Tots for this long, a fact that isn’t always noticed the the average wrestling fan. CHIKARA Pro Wrestling has joined in the last two years, with two collections this years, including this Friday’s JOSHIMANIA (see below).

For those attending, please take the time to stop somewhere this week and pick up a new unwrapped toy to bring to JOSHIMANIA and the Cage of Death Saturday events, the (Japanese) Indie Summit in the afternoon, and Cage of Death 13 as the nightcap.

As a matter of public information, WAR Wrestling, which held the Fansgiving event this past Saturday had to tolerate a complaint filed by a rival promoter with the Ohio State Athletic Commission. Suddenly, an state-issued permit was required, thus taking $100 out of the proceeds that the event’s beneficiaries, Unleashed Youth Ministries and the West Ohio Food Bank, could use to feed hungry families in northwestern Ohio. Perhaps you’d like to let the Ohio Commission what you think of them playing Scrooge.

Feel free to e-mail Bernie Procato at bernie.profato@aco.ohio.gov, Judy McCarty, Secretary at judy.mccarty@aco.ohio.gov, and Marilynne Houy, Account Clerk at marilynne.houy@aco.ohio.gov. You can also write to the Ohio State Athletic Commission at 242 Federal Plaza West, Suite 405, Youngstown, OH 44503, call them at (330) 797-2556 or fax them at (330) 797-2559.
