Drama Over Volador Jr.’s Masks

In a ridiculous turn this week drama in CMLL over Volador Jr.’s different variations of masks and gear was discussed in various Volador (and others) interviews. Volador says that he is a huge fan of Comic Books and Spider Man and he started using the different variations to gain attention because you have to do new things to get noticed or become stale. The problem is some inside CMLL’s programming department don’t like it and thinks that it “confuses” the fans (this just blows my mind). In a ridiculous quote Blue Panther claimed that the best wrestlers never change their mask and actually used Mil Mascaras as a damn example (you know… the guy known as the “Man of 1,000 masks!”). Volador says that he has even been punished (suspended?) by CMLL over wearing new/different gear. This is just beyond ridiculous and it was one of the more fun out of the ring things in Lucha last year to see all of the different looks Volador would come up with. Just one of the many ways you can see how far behind in the times CMLL really is.

Dragon Lee Injured
CMLL star Dragon Lee injured his knee last week in a match in Arena Mexico and had to undergo surgery on the knee (no specifics on the injury). He will be out for some time.

El Hijo del Santo Drama

Recently drama over former AAA star Intocable and his girlfriend Niurka (mostly from legend Hijo del Santo, yeah I know it’s REALLY shocking Santo is once again getting in some drama in public) over Intocable getting her into Lucha Libre. Niurka is a Mexican singer and is considered the Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian of Mexico (being famous with really not much talent at all if any). She and Intocable have run shows together and she has wrestled on them and because of her popularity those shows have drawn very well. El Hijo del Santo has come out publicly and said that this the very reason that Lucha is “going downhill.” He says that promoters are ruining their reputation and the legacies of great arenas like Arena Coliseo Monterrey are being ruined by promoters using her and others. Is some of what he saying true? Yeah I guess, I know I wouldn’t want to see her in the ring (nor Intocable for that matter), but why he is he saying? Because his shows don’t try half of what they used to anymore and it frustrates him that an untalented person like that can draw more fans to the shows than he can now.
