* NOTES *
– Fray Tormenta was there for the 4th Match to present the new Mistico.
– Niebla and Volador were beefing in the Semi-Main which resulted in their team losing in 2 straight falls. They started brawling after the match and Casas took Niebla’s side.
– In the Main Event Atlantis & Diamante end Los Guerreros’ near 2 year reign as the champions. Rojo and Guerrero had communication issues in the 3rd fall resulting in the loss and then they argued after the match.
– Legendary Rock group Metalica was in attendance for this show (they have upcoming shows in Mexico).
– Attendance was really good here (possibly best of the year so far) which means Mistico II is already a success as the response to him was very well received. He didn’t botch a ton of stuff either (though there were a few slip ups) and he hit a couple of wild spots (two that I noticed was a Springboard Shooting Star and a Double Spring into a Hurricanrana on the outside).

* NOTES *
– Vampiro interfered in the Cage Match and ended up tossing Chessman off the top of the cage through a table. Lider & Psicosis were the final two left in the cage.
– AAA inducted Perro Aguayo Sr. into the Hall of Fame and then Mascara Ano 2000 Sr. came out and challenged the legend to a Mask vs. Mask Match which Perro said “no” to.
– Octagon accidentally costed his team the match and then afterward El Consejo jumped him. Parka made the save.
– All kinds of hardcore stuff in the Psicosis/Lider match with Lider getting put through a table to give Psicosis the win.
– Abyss came with the TNA team to the ring and his interference ended up backfiring on Angle allowing Electro to pin him. After the match Dorian appologized to his family and Joaquin forgave him and waved the hair stipulation. The TNA guys then jumped Electro & Park and helped Dorian beat Joaquin down and shave HIS head!
– Perro had Mesias set up for a Piledriver but Hector Garza (who was in Perro’s corner) argued with him and eventually wacked him with a chair! This led to Mesias keeping his belt and after the match Perro argued with Garza again and again Garza took him out!
– Mascara Ano 2000 Sr. stood in Mascara Jr.’s corner while Dr. Wagner III & Silver Kain were in Wagner’s corner. Silver Kain ended up actually turning on his brother and almost costing him the match. Eventually Wagner hit a dive that took out both Mascara’s and Silver Kain in a big spot. In the end Wagner blasted Mascara with a bottle (like Mascara did a couple of weeks ago to Wagner) to take his mask!

LUCHA SPOTLIGHT

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?: ESSA RIOS (aka Mr. Aguila)

American fans probably remember luchador Mr. Aguila as Essa Rios from his stint in the WWF (WWE) back in the early 2000’s where he was managed by Lita and won the Light Heavyweight Championship and had a memorable feud with Eddie Guerrero and Chyna. Aguila actually spent the early parts of his career as the masked Mr. Aguila in CMLL but when the WWF decided to try and push a Light Heavyweight division in the late 90’s Aguila was one of several luchadors signed for the division (others included Super Loco aka Super Crazy and El Pantera). Aguila dropped his mask in Mexico to another young, up and coming luchador called Ultimo Guerrero and returned to the WWF as “Aguila.” Aguila spent the majority of his time in WWF wrestling in dark matches and on syndicated shows, outside of a WrestleMania match with Taka Michinoku, until he was repackaged as Essa Rios with Lita. After splitting with Lita and a brief feud with the Hardy Boyz and a very brief feud with Kurt Angle (finishing a Sunday Night Heat Main Event) Rios was soon released from the WWF and returned to Mexico.

He came to AAA in 2002 and was a part of all of the Team Mexico teams in TNA during the America’s X-Cup and World X-Cup Tournaments in 2003 and 2004. He wrestled for TNA outside of the X-Cup’s on several occasions, including a great X-Division Title match against AJ Styles. Aguila had a big feud with El Zorro in 2004 and 2005 and formed a group with Juventud Guerrera and Charly Manson called the “X-Team” before jumping to CMLL in 2005. Aguila immediately joined Perro Aguayo Jr. & Hector Garza’s Los Perros del Mal group and began a feud with Los Guerreros de la Infierno. That feud resulted in a Double Hair vs. Hair Match pitting Aguila and fellow PdM member Damian 666 against Rey Bucanero & Tarzan Boy with Aguila & Damian losing the match. During this time Aguila and Mexico’s Most Wanted (Damian 666 & Halloween) won the Mexican National Trios Titles in 2007 and then he teamed with Hector Garza & Perro Aguayo Jr. to win the CMLL World Trios Titles in as well. He, Garza, & Perro held those belts and were never defeated for them as they were stripped from the belts when Aguayo left CMLL to start his own Perros del Mal promotion.

Shortly after Perro left CMLL, Aguila followed him and joined the Perros del Mal promotion. After a few years working for PdM and occasionally for AAA Aguila returned to CMLL as a part of the Los Invasores group. Aguila teamed up with his former PdM buddy Hector Garza in Los Invasores and the two even won the CMLL World Tag Team Titles together. Eventually the Los Invasores angle lost steam (especially after Garza left CMLL again) and Aguila started feuding with his old rival Rey Bucanero again leading to a match in America for PWG and even a Hair vs. Hair Match that Bucanero won. Guila then formed a team with Volador Jr. & Black Warrior called “Los Desperadores del Aire” (The Predators of the Air) and won the Mexican National Trios Titles which they still hold today.
