From the Desk of Mr. V #39
October 29, 2009
By: Anthony J. Valvo of WrestleView.com

Wow, hello once again students of WrestleView.com! I do hope your week went as well as possible. Once again, Mr. V is here to keep you up to date on the best and worst of professional wrestling throughout the week. This week, I will treat you with yet another honor roll, commentator report card, classroom rules, and I must welcome a NEW Dean of WrestleView.com. Also, I must put some people on notice with detentions, the worst match of the week, and more. So, this is the time where you can sit back and relax. That is right, lean back and just enjoy the works from the desk of Mr. V.

Before I continue, I must say that I postponed my ?Real Winners and Losers? pieces mainly because I am working a lot in the real classrooms. Christmas is around that corner and I must build up enough ?bank? to make my family’s Christmas a very good one. However, with the lack of pay-per-views, I will be working on ?The Worst Theme Songs? voted by the students of WrestleView later on this weekend. I will say to those that voted I will do my best to make them all count. To those that plan on complaining after the results are posted, well that is your fault; not mine.

Let’s Being with our Quote of the Week?.

Quote of the Week

“Inspiration and genius–one and the same.”
– Victor Hugo

It is only a seven word quote, but powerful none the less. Think about it.

Classroom Rules

Well after nine months of doing this column and thanks to the thousands of WrestleView.com students, we finally got to rule #100! Thanks to all of you for helping me on this one.

100) Before you think all the wrestling news is correct, be sure it is on WrestleView.com

No. I am not sucking up to the powers that be that post my column every week when I post this. But when I get my information from other websites (I won?t name them), they are only about 80% accurate. WrestleView is about 99% accurate. Look, no one is perfect. But to those that own a pro wrestling site make sure you know the facts before posting careless and false news. I am on Facebook a few weeks ago and read on a site that Roddy Piper had terminal cancer. I was a bit devastated (won?t lie there). I actually was about to post this on my column a couple weeks back, but then I looked on other sites and I saw nothing. I opted to delete that part because I did not see it on WrestleView or the WWE. Well, it turned out to be false and I was able to not have to wipe the egg off my face.

I am not telling some of our fans to not post rumors or news. I think that is very noble of all of you. Just make sure you do your ?homework? first. So to Adam, I say kudos! I think these groups of fans give him some of the best information and he works his hardest to get that news to you. So maybe one day, give him a Thank You. He may enjoy that.

Ok, I did not get any more e-mail regarding rules or anything, so I will stay at that. If you have a rule you would like to share, I will accept it. Not only because I am in is a loss for ideas, but it in fact November is the month of Thanksgiving. I would like to give thanks all month by having your say once again among the various topics in my columns. Send your thoughts to mistervwv@hotmail.com. As always, thanks in advance.

HEADLINES! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

1) Terry Bollea?.I mean Hulk Hogan signs with TNA Wrestling!

I am still in a bit of shock, but yet I should not be that shocked. I am probably with everyone when I say this. What for it??..

Hogan did this because he is broke. Isn?t it obvious? His wife cleaned him out (that is what he gets for marrying a ?golddigger?), his kids are in the media for the wrong reasons, and he was dang near suicidal. Maybe if it was not for Laila Ali, he may have not been in the news promoting his book or signing this deal with TNA.

I hear he is going to be an authoritive figure in the TNA shows. I hear he may wrestle. I hear that he will do his hardest to improve ratings. You know what I think TNA did to themselves? I think they are taking ?The Ultimate Bet?. They are taking whatever chip they have left on the table and they went ?all-in?. It is either going to be successful or downright bad.

Do you really want my take on the possible future of TNA after this signing? I honestly think there will be a buzz the first few weeks. That’s right! I said it! America loves a train wreck, and look no further than the Bollea family. I think TNA ratings will be at their highest this coming week. If it doesn?t, then it will be what the kids call it an ?Epic Fail?! Then after that, they will go back to the same ratings they had for the past year.

Look, from my point of view I think it is a bad idea. However, if it is just Hulk Hogan and none of his has-been washed up friends, then it has a shot. But the moments we see Brutus Beefcake, Jimmy Hart, and the Nasty Boys?then the other wrestlers should look into another organization.

To conclude (because I am not going to go too much into this, e-mail me if you do), I will say this: If he is going to avoid wrestling on TNA (and I hope this is the case), perhaps it is going to succeed. However, if he brings ?his island of misfit toys? along with him, then Josh Boutwell might be out of the recapping business (don?t be offended Josh).

2) Oh yeah, they got Eric Bischoff in the deal as well.

Some think this signing was a ?throwaway?, kind of like a player to be named later in a baseball trade. As a business man, this is a GREAT hire. I only thought it would be a 35% chance he would ever get back to pro wrestling let along TNA (check the Fishbowl this week for the reference), but TNA made a good call here. Let’s just hope with all the ventures that Bischoff is a part of that he can do a great job. I think that Bischoff is still a bright mind in pro wrestling and this could be a good way of putting a dent into Vince McMahon’s armor.

3) Bragging Rights goes to Smackdown, Cena and Taker are your World Champs.

I was honored that such a great pay-per-view occurred in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. I hope those who attended were as happy as I was. Even the Diva’s match had its points! Morrison vs. Miz I thought was a great match, but the finish was kind of weak for my standards. The 7 on 7 tag match told a great story, and it was way better than I thought it would be. By the way?off the topic here, but among the 14 wrestlers in that tag team, over half were on the ECW roster at one point in the past few years (The Big Show, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, Kane, Matt Hardy, Tyson Kidd, and David Hart Smith). That is a pretty good representation of past ECW wrestlers. I am still disappointed no one on the current ECW roster got a match on this card. I am a huge fan of Christian.

The World Heavyweight Championship match was alright. Of course, we all know that The Undertaker defended. However the real story was Batista turning heel. Yes, Batista turned into a ?legit? animal and completely destroyed Rey Mysterio. I loved the turn! It was months in the making for Batista (but he always got hurt), and it was worth the wait. Wow, he was intense in that little segment.

I thought the John Cena/Randy Orton Iron Man Match was surprisingly great, but with a cheesy ending to the novel. It reminded me of an Oxford-approved novel. It had many chapters (dominated by Orton), but then when you turn the pages the hero fights back and defeats his long-time nemesis. The story surrounding this match I hope is the final chapter to the rivalry. The ending, as told by many on WrestleView would have been better if Orton passed out. It would have made it better.

There are so many other headlines that I just simply have no time to go over. You can check all the latest headlines right here on WrestleView.com. Thank you all for visiting the site.

DETENTIONS

Ugh, well let’s bring out the usual suspects.

**Nominate your choices for detention by e-mailing me at mistervwv@hotmail.com**

WWE – for bringing in Kyle (Kofi Johnston) Busch and Joey Logano, yet you did not open up the checkbook for Ed O?Neill! Just YouTube ?The Best of Al Bundy?. You will enjoy it.

WWE (again) – for changing up the WWE World Title scene way too many times for my liking.

Under-18 year old who hold up Snoop Dogg posters – In house that is acceptable, but seriously no kid should listen to his music. However, Mr. V is a Snoop Dogg fan because he is a fan of the Steelers.

?Cougar? – I agree with my friend Kevin Castle. This term is already overdone and it is just useless to me.

Abyss, Mick Foley, and TNA refs – I agree with Suzanne Abshire when she stated this. This match was in fact insulting to the eyes of pro wrestling purists.

TNA Creative – For making Hernandez look strong by beating all three members of The British Invasion in three minutes, then having Hernandez miss out on the TNA Legend’s Belt while The Brits are TNA World Tag Champs (credit Suzanne once again)

Daniels, Suicide, and others involved in that Ultimate X spot only – I am glad they are alright, but one must be careful in settings like this.

ETERNAL DETENTION (Presented By: David and Crelly’s Lounge on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/david-crelly. These two banter like two old men at times, but they are quite entertaining. See for yourselves sometime.)

The BBC – Though I like the programming, some guy named ?Not Telling? wanted them here because they invited a self-confessed Nazi which led to a controversy. I am not sure about the whole deal, but if a students want to place them here I have no problems.

Michael Cole – For you atrocious commentary this week as a whole. You were terrible on RAW, terrible on Smackdown, terrible on the PPV, and terrible with your jokes about Jim Ross. If it was in fact Vince McMahon making Cole say that distasteful joke at JR’s expense, then he too is on this list. Plus, ?Vintage Bragging Rights?? It’s so vintage being the first move. (Thanks Brian Czygan)

Jerry Lawler – For not providing good commentary in the past couple months. You need to carry the show because Cole will never get better.

Praxis and the ETS Series – Do I need to explain?

WWE booking – Cena vs. members of DX in a Triple Threat? BOOOOORINNNNG!

Village Voice – How stupid do you have to be?

Mr. V’s Honor Roll for the Week of October 19 – October 23, 2009

This to me was the easiest top three in a VERY long time. In the past few weeks, I did not get a match that I deemed ?excellent?. However, this past week I got three matches that I thought were absolutely great and deserved to be on this list. Though there were some pretty solid matches throughout the week by all the promotions, here are my top matches for the week:

Distinguished Honor Roll – Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson, ROH on HDNet, October 19.

Wow, this match was simply amazing! The start of the contest was mainly a test of strength, as to who was strong than who. Danielson did not botch one move and his mat skills were second to none. He will be missed in Ring Of Honor, but I think I will be on one more episode of ROH. The ending was superb, as it told the story that Aries felt overpowered and needed to beat Danielson by exposing the top turnbuckle. I really enjoyed the execution of the submission holds.

Ending: Austin Aries retained his ROH World Title by kicking Danielson’s head right on the exposed turnbuckle and used all his weight for the pin fall victory.

Move of the Match: In the middle of the match, I was impressed with the way Aries nailed Danielson with the Heat-Seeking Missile.

High Honor Roll – Christian vs. Chris Jericho, ECW, October 20.

I could not complain on how the match started here. I really liked the transitions, the back and forth action. My words don?t do this match justice, as my students must check this out on YouTube or Hulu. Both men put on a great show and there was no real bad marks from me.

Ending: Christian hit the Killswitch and got the pin fall victory.

Move of the Match: Jericho’s running enzugiri out of nowhere!

Honors – HHH vs. John Cena, Monday Night Raw, October 19.

I think this match really told me that Cena was not going to lose to Orton last Sunday. I was shockingly impressed with the back and forth action, as no man had a clear advantage. Both Cena and HHH had good chemistry. From start to finish, this match provided us with some great action and overall I thought it was the best match this year for HHH and Cena.

Ending: Many counters leading to HHH winning with the Pedigree!!

Move of the Match: During the commercial, John Cena getting whipped to the steel steps looked awfully painful!

Honorable Mention goes to: King vs. Lynn on 10/19; Cabana vs. Castagnoli on 10/19; Tatsu vs. Ryder on 10/20; Kelly vs. Kim on 10/22; Sabin/Shelley vs. Creed/Lethal on 10/22; British Invasion vs. Beer Money on 10/22; Mysterio/Batista vs. Jericho/Kane on 10/23; and Finlay/M. Hardy/Truth/Kidd/Smith vs. JTG/Ziggler/Escobar/JTB on 10/23

Worst Match of the Week – Melina vs. Jillian Hall, Monday Night Raw, October 19.

No disrespect, but when half of the moves in a match are botched, then it goes on the list. Sorry, ladies.

Dishonorable Mention goes to: McGuinness vs. Rinauro on 10/19; Raw’s 10-man tag match on 10/19; Sheamus vs. J.T. Quinn on 10/20; Homicide vs. Amazing Red on 10/22; and James vs. El on 10/23.

Weekly TV Wars

Once again if you have a show that you thought was the best in the week of professional wrestling, please let me know by e-mailing me at mistervwv@hotmail.com. Thanks to those who participated last week:

Ring of Honor on HDNet (October 19)

Best Segment: The pre-match and post-match rants by Nigel McGuinness were great, pointing to all the fans that it was their fault for Jerry Lynn’s injury.

Best Match: Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson (Grade: A-)

Monday Night Raw (October 19)

Best Segment: (tie) Snoop Dogg’s ‘smoking tease? which turned out to be fresh scented candles (I know I am a hypocrite but I thought it was funny) and the Raw vs. SD! epiphany showdown.

Best Match: HHH vs. John Cena (Grade: B+)

ECW (October 20)

Best Segment: Anyone who interacted with Chris Jericho. From Abraham Washington to Tiffany, Jericho had some great segments.

Best Match: Christian vs. Chris Jericho (Grade: A-)

WWE Superstars (October 22)

Best Segment: Hands Down, it was the tribute to Capt. Lou Albano

Best Match: Kelly Kelly vs. Gail Kim (Grade: C+)

TNA Impact (October 22)

Best Segment: The last segment where Desmond Wolf made his statement on Impact last week. You know, the Tower of London off the turnbuckle?

Best Match: (tie) Motor City Machineguns vs. Lethal Consequences and The British Invasion vs. Beer Money Inc. (Grade: B-)

Friday Night Smackdown (October 23)

Best Segment: I know I may get a lot of bad e-mail, but when Mae Young b!tchslapped Michelle McCool. That was just a well-done segment. Chris Jericho in the beginning was not bad as well.

Best Match: Finlay/M. Hardy/R-Truth/Tyson Kidd/DH Smith vs. McIntyre/Ziggler/Escobar/JTG (Grade: B-)

Students? Choice: Monday Night Raw (vote was 3-1 in favor of RAW for this past week).

Mr. V’s Runner-Up: ROH on HDNet

This show gets at least one point because the wrestling for the most part was very entertaining. The viewers of this program got at least three soild matches and we have a decent Jerry Lynn injury angle. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Colt Cabana had some very humorous moments along with great wrestling. Aries vs. Danielson was one of the best matches of the month and among the top 10 of the year in my book. Top it all of with Nigel McGuinness? mic work and squash match and it was a pretty good show for the one hour time slot the have with HDNet.

Mr. V’s Pick for Best Show: Monday Night Raw

Raw this past week hit it out of the park with Snoop Dogg was the guest host. In case some are new to the classroom, Snoop Dogg is a genuine WWE fan and it showed tonight. All his segments were done well and he was a great host for a go-home show. Though I did not pick this as the ?Best of? anything that Ted DiBiase/Randy Orton match was well done! What a story! The 10-man tag and the Diva’s Match were a bit of a miss, but the show for the most part was brilliant! Congrats to Monday Night Raw (and Snoop Dogg) for the amazing work last week.

Cliff Notes

Well, here we stand once again after the Bragging Rights PPV. I will have to say The Faculty overall did not have a good Sunday, which Matt O?Brien being the only member that posted a winning record.

However, though he went 2-3 on Sunday, Jose Marrero was able to one-up Joe Baiamonte and Josh Boutwell to become (for the first time) the NEW Dean of WrestleView.com!! On behalf of myself, I will raise my cup of coffee up high and toast you, Dean Marrero.

And now?a word from our New Dean of WrestleView:

The era of Baimonte has come and gone, there is a new Dean in these here parts and I aim to keep it that way for a long time. The Jose Marrero Era has arrived and all in the Wrestleview Universe would do well to pay homage to the man. LONG LIVE THE DEAN!!! (By: Dean Jose Marrero)

Until then, The WrestleView Faculty is on a much needed rest for the next couple weeks. Once our recess is completed, then we will provide you with yet another set of picks. So until then, keep your eyes open.

And now??.time for??..

MISTER V?S GOLD STAR SEGMENT

Thanks, man that played the trumpet.

Now, presenting the good in professional wrestling (and other things) from this past week?

Ricky Langston – He scored the best record out of all of the students and faculty for the Bragging Rights PPV, scoring an impressive 4-1 record. Sadly, one fan got all their picks wrong and it brought down the overall average to 2-3 among sixteen students!

To the sixteen students that presented picks – That was the most since WrestleMania! Thank you all for playing and I hope you will do the same next week.

Doug Lackey – For doing this Ric Flair WOOOOO lottery ticket drawing. It was a noble thing for Doug to do and I think you all should thank him for that, even if you did not win the ticket.

Matt O?Brien – The only faculty member to post a winning Bragging Rights record. Good job to the man to writes a great column as well.

Joe Baiamonte – Your service as Dean was grand. Now you have to become the hunter once again.

Jose Marrero – Our NEW Dean! Will he hold it until the end of the Royal Rumble?

Adam Martin – He was very patient and worked with my own schedule. The end result? I think a pretty good Friday Fishbowl this week. I hope you enjoy it, as when we did this it was announced that Hogan signed with TNA. Be kind, this is the first time that I was ever on the radio.

RC Cola – Don?t ever change.

Those that view my Examiner Page – Thank you all of you, this week I was able to get a small amount of money. Please keep spreading the word out there.

John Cena – NEW WWE World Champion

Batista – Congrats on finally being able to make that heel turn. I for one thought it was well-done.

Team Smackdown – The right show won Bragging Rights. Smackdown has been the top show in my yearly TV Wars Standings.

Byron Saxton – I was hard on him yesterday. Doing a double-take, I thought that he did a great job for his first night on main television.

To all that have completed the Homework – I will shout you all out later on this week when I conclude that assignment. Thank You.

CM Punk – He took some time off his very busy schedule to visit Children’s Hospital. I actually pray for those kids each night and to see Punk visit the hospital put a lot of smiles on the kids faces. I for one give him a log of credit. He also appeared on Mark Madden, which was pretty cool as well. In my opinion he should still be the World Champ on Smackdown.

Austin Aries – STILL your ROH World Champion

Desmond Wolf (or Wolfe) – He did make an Impact. I hope the Hogan signing does not derail his mean streak. Seriously, what better way to make a name than take out one of the best wrestlers in TNA?

William Regal – He acted brilliantly on ECW. Throwing the furniture was a nice touch. I was waiting for him to turn green and go completely bonkers.

Christian – STILL you ECW Champion

Yoshi Tatsu – He really came on his own. His match may be best of the week and I will get more into that later next week.

Kofi Kingston – Fans of WWE, we have witnessed the change of a mid-carder to a potential main eventer with just one segment of Kofi’s. How intense was that?

Scott Steiner – I omitted his work at Bound For Glory by mistake. He actually was one of the best performers on that pay-per-view.

Any suggestions for Gold Stars? Well, I am all ears (or fingers since I am typing this). Send it to mistervwv@hotmail.com.

Homework Assignment

**Last Week to do this**

(From Mr. V #37)

As we all know, with the thanks to all of you the best wrestling themes was a complete success! Now, here is a follow up to the previous assignment:

Name the five (5) WORST wrestling theme songs of all-time. Please rank them from one to five. Points will be awarded by ranking as like the last assignment.

I think this could be better than the Best Themes. Who knows when this is due, but the column should be very entertaining once completed. Please e-mail me all your choices at mistervwv@hotmail.com or message me on Facebook.

Also, I am out of ideas for the next homework assignment. Let me know what your next one should be. I know, not many teachers ask of this. I almost went with what we did in the chat room on WrestleView on Monday, but I don?t know.

Well, that sums up another edition From the Desk of Mr. V. As always, if you want to chat wrestling you can always go on FaceBook and ask me your questions (I am on there at least once a day). You can also e-mail your comments to my address at mistervwv@hotmail.com. I am getting much better in responding to the e-mails, so drop me a line.

It is the end, and you know what that means. Time to push in your chairs, walk in a straight line, and exit your classroom door (more than likely your computer room or dormitory room). Until My Ring of Honor Recap, I bid you farewell! Thanks for reading and you are all officially?????DISMISSED!!

Look me up on Facebook under Anthony J. Valvo in the Pittsburgh Network

Mr. V does neither Twitter nor MySpace
