Blue Demon Jr. Writes Incredible Article for ESPN
Thanks to Adam Martin for putting this up on the newsboard earlier this week. The reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon Jr. wrote a special article for ESPN.com. It was actually featured on the front page of ESPN as well. In the article Demon speaks on his adopted father, the legendary original Blue Demon (telling a great story about the first time he realized his father was Blue Demon). Also, Demon goes on to speak about the struggles wrestlers go through, the legacy of the mask, critics of wrestling, carrying on his fathers legacy, his great work with his cancer charity (helping kids with cancer), and the current state of wrestling (including his thoughts on the WWE). There are two certain awesome quotes that I want to point to before I give you guys the link to the whole article. This first one is Demon’s thoughts on the image and the mask:

“As the years passed and as I inherited his image, I knew there were a lot of responsibilities and I learned how to situate where I am. Feeding the ego is very important for most people, and it was even more important to me, being the heir to the Blue Demon. I didn’t want to tell anyone I was his son, but fortunately, the wrestling magic makes us overcome the obstacle of not being able to say who we are, feeding that ego. People see a mask, and it’s simply a mask. The person under it, whoever it is, doesn’t matter. The mask and the character — not the person — are the motor that drives the people’s passion. And I think a lot of us, deep inside, want to say, “I am so-and-so,” and be recognized.”

This next one is Demon’s thoughts on some of the critics:

“But people keep thinking wrestling is fake, that in some fights all you see is ketchup or paint and not blood. People think we don’t hurt ourselves. But our sport is the same as any other in that there is a physical risk. Wrestling is a not a contact sport; wrestling is a sport of physical impact.”

Just really great stuff. The entire article really is great and is a must read for any lucha fan or any wrestling fan in general. Follow the link to check it out: click here.

In some pretty disappointing news La Yakuza member Sugi San tore his MCL at the AAA TV Taping that will require surgery. Sugi will be out for several months (and probably will be done with AAA, hopefully not though). Pretty disappointing for him and La Yakuza can’t catch a break. First, El Oriental bails and now this. I would imagine Kenzo is prolly on his way to joining another faction.

– This was PdM’s first TV taping and it will air this Saturday on Televisa. The commentators were Dr. Morales, Poncho Vera, & Leo Riano.
– Opener said to be the fun, high flying bout you would expect from these guys.
– Next two bouts were supposedly just as good but nothing of note happened.
– Cassandro’s match was a comedy match but he hit an insane dive off the lighting structure (which was huge) they had set up. It was posted up on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2EzNq_aX8E
– In the minis match Cosmico hit a Spanish Fly in the 3rd fall on Mini Talisman but both mens shoulders were down on the fall resulting in the draw.
– Dr. Morales presented Perro Aguayo Sr. with a Lifetime Achievement type of award.
– Groon XXX is quick on it just leaving AAA and showing up here. He stuck up the place as usual.
– TLC Match was said to have been disappointing but Veneno & Scorpio bled like usual. Charly Manson made his debut with PdM running in on the match to help Aguila’s team win. He and Aguila challenged Histeria & Psicosis II to a Mask vs. Hair Cage Match and it was accepted!
– Main Event saw Perro get the pin on Park in the deciding fall pulling on his mask in the process. For those that dont know Brazo de Plata is Super Porky. They are going with a Perro vs. Park feud. Park gets on the mic after the match and talks trash to Perro Jr. and then calls out Perro Sr. and talks some trash to him. He then starts shoving him and eats a big shot from Perro Sr. that lays him out!
