That’s a Wrap! #16

That's a Wrap
Week of June 1st to 7th 2009
By: David Stephens of WrestleView.com

Ousta! Welcome back to the only WrestleView column covering topics both nowhere yet everywhere at once. If you are new to the column you are probably going to hate us for the first couple weeks, but then you are going to hit a point where you say ?oh wait a minute, I think he gets it?. Don?t worry, that’s exactly how it is designed to be. This column is all about gut reactions and traveling thoughts. As the great Andy Kaufman once said: ?I just want real reactions. I want people to laugh from the gut, be sad from the gut, or get angry from the gut?.

You guys are just getting the potatoes of the metaphorical ?meat and potatoes? this week. I have been really swamped with a project I?m working on as well as actual work for my job. To top it all off my computer is messed up so she?ll be heading into the shop soon. I?m writing between 2-3 columns in advance and ask Hunter to post one a week till I get my computer back.

So this week you?ll be getting news, ratings and some other tidbits in order for me to ensure that you?ll have something of mine to read for the next couple weeks. On that note, I know that there are quite a few of you that e-mailed me in the last two weeks (and some even farther back). I am NOT ignoring you! I will respond to each and every one of you as soon as I can.

What’s in the News?
all news is gathered from WrestleView.com

Former TNA star Sonjay Dutt is scheduled to work the next ROH TV tapings for HDNet on June 19 and June 20 in Philadelphia, PA
-for the life of me I STILL can?t figure out why TNA released him

Chris Mordetzky, known to wrestling fans as Chris Masters, has signed a deal to return to the WWE after a two year absence.
-will they keep his two previous wellness policy violations in effect or will his slate be wiped clean for this new run?

Jim Ross wrote in his blog this past week that ?Mickie James, arguably the WWE’s most talented in ring diva, is contemplating trying her hand at country music as Mickie has apparently written several songs and is preparing to do a demo?
-speaking of Country Music, is anybody else in love with Taylor Swift? She’s so freakin? cute and her music is pretty awesome as well. Hey, I can dream can?t I?

The New York Daily News has an interview up with Ric Flair, Flair says it was his decision to leave ROH and not WWE
-In other news, Cary Silken is STILL pissed regardless of whose decision it was
WWE Diva Candice Michelle was backstage at the WWE TV tapings two weeks ago in Los Angeles, CA. Michelle is expected to be back from injuries in a month or so
-Go Daddy?

Vickie Guerrero has given her notice to WWE and the segment on Monday Night Raw where she resigned as General Manager of Raw was a blowoff angle for her on air character. Guerrero cited a desire to spend more time at home with her daughters.
-I have to chuckle at Vickie using the typical disgraced politician line. Though in this case it might actually be because that’s the reason

WWE.com is reporting that Batista’s injuries as a completely torn left bicep that will require surgery and keep him out of action for at least the next four months.
-there have sure been a lot of differing stories on this one. Something smells fishy to me

While details over Umaga’s sudden WWE release yesterday still remain unknown, Umaga is claiming he quit the company.
-That’s about the only reasonable explanation I can come up with

ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer signing has signed on for another three to five years.
-In my personal opinion, I hope that he spends the bulk of that time as an agent or trainer in FCW. He’s great at helping out new and young guys

Vince McMahon is said to be more on edge lately than he has been in the past. It’s been described that right now hasn’t been the best time to be a member of the “support staff” and that challenging McMahon on anything isn’t considered a smart move.
-That’s what happens when a 63 year old micromanages a global company, it was going to catch up with him eventually

Jeremy Borash reported on his Twitter that: “doctors cleared Shawn Hernandez of L.A.X. to return to the ring. He recently underwent successful neck surgery. That’s great news.”

Must Read WrestleView Column of the Week
Reality from Ringside #15 by Doug Lackey
My choice this week plays into my strong pro-ECW bias. Doug wrote: ?I haven?t even mentioned the waves of progress being made on ?ECW?, which I will contend is the best of all three brands!? so he gets the nod this week! Joking aside, he put out a sweet column discussing the rise and fall of Ken Kennedy.

Loose Ends

-You wouldn?t believe how many wrestling shirts I see at work, in particular Hardy shirts. I cannot only assume that amusement park visitors look for thrills both on and off the coasters.
