El Hijo del Santo Shocks The Lucha World With AAA Return!
At Monday’s AAA TV Taping legendary luchador, El Hijo del Santo, made his return to the company for the first time since 1995! Santo has worked a few spot/house shows in the past but has not competed in AAA in well over a decade. Santo was one of the first major lucha stars to jump to AAA in it’s early days. Santo stated in his in-ring speech that he had returned to AAA to help bring back the company to Antonio Pena’s family. Santo is the third member of Team AAA (joining La Parka Jr. & Octagon) of 5 to be announced for next month’s huge TripleMania show which will feature the Main Event Domed Cage Match of Joaquin Roldan’s Team AAA facing Konnan’s La Legion with ownership of the company on the line! Santo said after the show in an interview that he had only signed a deal to appear at TripleMania at this point but that may change before then (hopefully). Full results from the show below.

Former AAA Star Passes Away
AAA announced on their site this wekek that former AAA lucha star, Canibal, passed away this week. They give the real name Julio Gomez. He was the 2nd Canibal and his uncle was the original. Last time he was in AAA was 2007. It has been revealed that he was struck by a truck while riding his motorcycle causing him to crash and killing him in the process. The funeral was held this past Thursday and he was buried in the place of his birth, Sierra de la Espperanza in Oaxaca.

– Stone beat Laredo Kid clean in their Semifinals match.
– After Teddy attempted to interfere in the 2nd Semifinals match Jack Evans had Teddy ejected from ringside (as he wanted to win it on his own). Teddy then returned and costed Jack the match and his shot at the belt. After the match Teddy and the rest of the Legion attacked Evans and kicked him out of the group, so that means Evans is now full blown tecnico.
– Marco ran out and helped Koslov win his Semifinals bout. Marco and Latin Lover have a shot at Nicho & Lider’s Tag Titles coming up.
– Big brawl in the Semimain comes to an end with Wagner hitting the Wagner Driver on Ozz for the pin.
– In the Main Event Wagner stayed at ringside to do guest commentary. They brawled all around the arena and eventually Electroshock was able to sneak back in the ring to give the Legion the win.
– After the Main, Nicho jumped Marco and the rest of the Legion came out to help them beat down Mesias and Latin as well. CMLL

CMLL Signs 3 Young Second Generation Stars
CMLL has signed three new young up and coming stars, all three second generation wrestlers. Those three luchadores would be Ultraman Jr., As Jr., & Rene Guajarado Jr. Ultraman is the son of the original who was a star in the 70’s and 80’s. His father had feuds with the likes of Brazo de Oro, Jerry Estrada, and Perro Aguayo in the past. Ultraman Jr. has wrestled in IWRG, AAA, and some on CMLL spot shows as well as working with Toryumon Mexico some. As Jr. I am not familiar with As Jr. (other than his name means Ace Jr.) or Rene Guajardo Jr. as they have both only worked in local INDY shows so far. Rene Guarado Sr. (Rene Guarardo Jr.’s grandfather) is a legend in lucha as he was a star in the 60’s, 70’s, and early 80’s. His father Rene Guajardo II made his debut in 1992 and has bounced around lucha, competing for CMLL in the early-mid 2000’s with his biggest win being a Hair vs. Hair Match against former partner Stuka. He still competes on the INDY scene the last I saw and his son Rene Guajardo Jr. (or Rene Guajardo III) made his debut in 2008.

Toscano On The Verge of Returning
CMLL star, Toscano, who broke his ankle (which required surgery to repair) back on March 30th has said he is about 3 weeks away from returning to the ring. He will be forced to wrestle with a metal plate and screws in his ankle however which is surely to hamper his style in a pretty major way.

Lucha Spotlight of the Week:
AAA Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinals
Jack vs. Teddy Hart
03/22/09

This is the first matchup in the tournament to crown the very first AAA World Cruiserweight Champion and it pits partner vs. partner as the Hart Foundation 2.0 face off against each other to see who gets to move onto the Semifinals! Teddy and Jack come out together but Jack in front of Teddy and gets into the ring first. Tonight they have the long wooden ramp coming from the stage to the ring. Jack offers a handshake before the match but Teddy slaps him in the face instead! Jack is pissed and goes right to work with leg kicks and a big one to the gut but Teddy comes back everytime with forearms. Jack goes for another kick but Teddy catches his foot and then hits him with a big European Uppercut!

Teddy chokes Jack on the middle rope and then taunts the crowd somemore. Teddy puts the boots to Jack and then slaps him hard again. Teddy with knee strikes to the face and then he argues with the referee which allows Jack to kick him in the back of the knee staggering Teddy. Hart comes back with a poke to the eyes and then he its several crossface shots at a downed Jack. Hart hits another European Uppercut and a third, but Evans counters the fourth one into a back slide! 1?NO Hart kicks out! Jack goes for a roundhouse kick but Hart ducks and hits a nasty Lariat that turns Evans inside out! Hart screams some obscenities at the fans and then puts the boots to Evans somemore.

Hart mocks Evans with a headstand and some half-hearting dancing and then he chops Evans. Hart with a right hand and then he whips Evans into the ropes. Evans holds onto the ropes and then uses them to lift himself up into a backdrop salto to Hart and sending himself over the top rope onto the ramp. Hart goes for a right hand but Evans blocks it and hits a nice roundhouse kick to the side of Hart’s head and then hits a gorgeous springboard corkscrew Enziguri! Hart is pissed and bails out to the floor but you are not safe there from Jack Evans! He hits the cartwheel into the corkscrew plancha over the top onto Hart on the floor! Both men are down on the ring and we see a replay of the beautiful move.

Though Jack was the aggressor it is Teddy who gets up first as Evans is selling it like he injured himself on the move. Hart climbs up on the apron and hits a split legged moonsault onto Evans who is still lying on the floor! Hart now sells it like he injured his knee on the move! The referee starts to give Jack the match but Teddy says he can continue. Hart with a stiff elbow to the face of Evans and then he throws him facefirst into the stage ramp. Hart not acting like he’s fighting his boy right now as he snots on Jack and then continues to put the boots to him. Hart rolls Evans back in the ring and then drapes him over the middle rope and hits several front kicks to the face of Jack! Evans falls out onto the ramp and Hart puts the boots to Evans again.

Hart continues to taunt the fans and then he tries to suplex Evans off the ramp but Evans blocks it. Hart drops Evans and hits him with a knee strike and then a European Uppercut. Hart picks Evans up once more attempting the Suplex to the floor but Evans again blocks it this time by hitting a knee strike to the top of Hart’s head. Hart comes right back with a right hand and then he threatens to DDT Evans on the ramp but Evans blocks it and goes for a Northern Lights Suplex on the ramp, but Hart counters into a Spike DDT onto the ramp! Evans falls off the ramp back onto the floor as we see a replay of the move. We go to commercial break and then come right back to see the fight back in the ring and Hart still with the advantage.

Teddy hits a neckbreaker/backbreaker combo over his knee and then he lays Jack down in the corner and Curb Stomps him into the bottom turnbuckle! Hart does the facewash on Teddy in the corner and then whips Evans into the ropes and goes for a clothesline, but Evans avoids it with a gorgeous backflip and then he hits a Leaping Enziguri! Evans then hits a cartwheel kick and then hits a front kick blocking a right hand attempt from Teddy followed by a crescent kick! Jack then hits the Ode to Blitzkrieg (Standing Corkscrew Moonsault)! 1?2?NO Hart kicks out! Evans whips Hart into the corner and then hits a cartwheel and flips over Teddy right into a reverse X-Factor! 1?.2?NO Hart kicks out! Jack with leg kicks and then a spinning back kick and then goes for a Bicycle Kick, but Hart avoids it and hits the Hart Rate (belly-to-back suplex flipped into a sitout powerbomb)!

1?2?NO Evans kicks out! Teddy shows his frustration and then hits the Powerbomb into a backcracker over his knees! That move is just freaking nasty! Teddy climbs to the top and attempts the Hart Attack (Shooting Star Press) but Evans gets his knees up! Evans then climbs up to the top himself and goes for the 630 Splash, but Teddy gets his knees up as well! Teddy sells his knee again and the referee checks on it but Teddy says he can continue. Teddy goes for the Hart Rate again but Evans counters with a gorgeous hurricanrana and he hooks the legs! 1?2?3 Evans wins!

Winner & advancing to the Semifinals: Jack Evans via pinfall (hurricanrana)

(Very good match between the two and the way that Hart was really, really heeling it up you wouldn?t have been able to tell they were tag partners if you didn?t already know. Classic rudo vs. tecnico stuff here with some great martial arts kicks, counters, and high spots to go along with it. I loved the finish with both men going for their favorite top rope moves and then Evans using his knowledge of what his partner would do to beat him. ***1/2)

AAA Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinals
Nicho el Millionario vs. Joe Lider
03/22/09

Another partner vs. partner matchup here in the opening round. For those of you not too much up on AAA, Nicho is the original Psicosis that most American fans are familiar with. Nicho and Lider cut a promo before the match pretty much saying they?re boys but this is about the Cruiserweight strap. They come to the ring together as usual and man I love their music. I don?t speak fluid Spanish but it’s still bada**. They shake hands and then lockup in the center of the ring. They stalemate and then lockup again. Lider with a hammerlock and then he transitions into a hiptoss. Nicho claps at his partner and smiles.

They lockup again and Nicho gets a waistlock and then a throw on Lider. They lockup once again and Lider puts Nicho in a side headlock, but Nicho counters with one of his own. Lider pushes Nicho off into the ropes but Nicho nails him with a clothesline and then comes off the ropes again. Lider leapfrogs NIcho and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Lider goes for a clothesline but Nicho grabs his arm and hits an armdrag. Nicho goes for a backsplash senton but Lider moves. Lider goes for a somersault senton but Nicho moves! Nicho goes for a clothesline but Lider ducks and goes for a front kick, but Nicho catches his foot and spins him around.

Both men stare each other down once again as they stalemate. Lider claps at Nicho now and they shake hands again but this time Lider leaps across and slaps Nicho hard! No more sportsmanship I guess! Lider lights up Nicho’s chest with chops and then whips him into the ropes and hits front kick followed by a running front kick to the side of the head and then a running Diamond Cutter! 1?2?NO Nicho kicks out! Lider whips Nicho into the corner and charges but Nicho gets his boot up and then goes for another kick, but Lider catches his foot and swings it right into the ropes hanging it up there. Lider then kicks Nicho in the knee and then hangs him up further in the ropes and hits a springboard Backcracker!

1?.2?.NO Nicho gets his foot on the ropes! Lider rolls Nicho under the ropes and onto the apron. Lider goes for a suplex there but Nicho blocks it and hits a Reverse DDT on the ring apron! Nicho then climbs back in the ring and hits a corkscrew plancha over the top onto Lider on the floor! We see a replay of the move and see that Nicho caught Lider with his knee to the head on the way down, flush. Back in the ring Nicho whips Lider into the ropes but he holds onto them. Nicho charges at Lider with a clothesline attempt, but Lider backdrops Nicho over the top onto the ring apron. Nicho with a right hand and then climbs through the ropes to the apron with him. Lider attempts to German Suplex Nicho off the apron onto the floor! Nicho blocks it so Lider hits a Spanish Fly off the apron onto the floor instead! Back in the ring Lider chops away at Nicho and then attempts to whip him into the corner but Nicho reverses it and hits a spinning heel kick. Nicho climbs to the top rope and goes for a Flying Cross Body but Lider catches him in midair! Lider then puts Nicho up on his shoulders and hits a DVD into the turnbuckles! 1?2?NO Nicho grabs the bottom rope again. Lider attempts to whip Nicho into the ropes but he reverses it and then hits a back elbow. Nicho hangs Lider’s feet up on the top rope and hits a Roll of the Dice! 1?2..NO Lider kicks out! Lider comes back with a front kick and then he hangs Nicho up in the corner and climbs up top and double stomps to the back of Nicho sending him into the mat hard! 1?2?NO Nicho still kicks out! Lider charges at Nicho but Nicho backdrops him over the top rope onto the apron and then hits a slingshot Sunset Flip Powerbomb onto the floor! On the replay we see that Lider’s head caught the guard rail. Back in the ring Lider takes the advantage back and he hits an Outsider’s Edge (Crucifix Powerbomb) over the top rope onto the ramp! Lider drags Nicho back into the ring and covers, 1?2?NO Nicho still kicks out! Pepe Casas? counts have got to be the slowest in the world though. Lider goes for the move again but Lider blocks it and then he does it! He Crucifix Bombs Lider over the top onto the ramp! Nicho rolls Lider back into the ring and climbs to the top. Nicho leaps off and hits the Guillotine Leg Drop! 1?2?3 and it’s over! No extracurricular activity after the match for this team though.

Winner & advancing to the Semifinals: Nicho via pinfall (Guillotine Legdrop)

(Another very good outing from tag partners. They really played up the whole ?I know you, you know me? thing in this one and worked for them. Things got a little personal with Lider’s slap but not near as bad as Teddy and Evans. ***)
