2/26 WWE Results: Amarillo, TX

Thanks to Rocky for sending this in:

It has been a little under a year since WWE made it’s way to the Amarillo Civic Center. Well, I, once again, made my way to this huge show for Amarillo. So, let’s get this Live Event Recap underway!

PRE-SHOW NOTES

This was maybe the shortest time I had to stay in line for a WWE event. As soon as the line in the back started to loop around, they instantly opened the doors. So, it was great to be able to find my seat and see what kind of visibility I could get with my camera.

I don’t know how long they have been doing this, but WWE was actually selling collector drink cups at the show tonight. It’s a great cup, but for $6, I think WWE, the Civic Center, and the Health Department could have come together so that they could have at least offered one free refill with these cups. So that kind of ticked me off.

In the past 5-6 years that I have gone to these events, there was always one section that was completely empty. Tonight, though, there was not an empty seat in the house! Mind you, I have never seen so many kids in attendance. But I must say that I was surprised to see a packed house!

Ok, since they had been advertising this show, we were scheduled to see Sheamus vs. John Cena for the WWE Title, but as we all know, Batista won the belt at Elimination Chamber. So, were we given Tista vs Cena? NO! We were given, what I think, the most stupid main event leading into WrestleMania. We were given John Cena and Mark Henry vs Big Show and Randy Orton! Oh trust me, if you think that’s ridiculous, just wait until we actually get to the match! Also, Triple H was plastered all over this show while advertised, but Justin Roberts (I just gotta love this guy, cause he can hype up a crowd with his announcing skill) let us know that he would not be at the show tonight.

Ok, enough talk, let’s get to the card!

MATCH 1 – Christian vs Jack Swagger

This was a great match, with lots back and forth action. I must say, television does not do Swagger any justice, as this guy is just huge! The finish saw Swagger hit Christian with the Pumphandle for the false finish, a little firing up, and Killswitch from Christian for the big W!

WINNER – Christian

MATCH 2 – William Regal vs Primo

You know, I looked all over for the internet, trying to see what I would be in for, and on one review, a guy said people were only looking for one guy in a Carlito match: PRIMO! Well, look forward to see Primo taking on the free agent known as William Regal at live events. Regal kept teasing the big Punch, but Primo ended up using the Back Cracker instead!

WINNER – Primo

We were then greeted to the LOVELY Bella Twins, who were looking for a guest time keeper. The catch: They had to answer a question to do this! And of course, the question was “Where will WrestleMania 26 gonna be held?” I just wanted someone to answer with something like Dallas Cowboys Stadium, but of course, some adult just HAD to help the little kid answer right.

MATCH 3 – Maryse vs Kelly Kelly for the WWE Diva’s Champion

… Sorry, just couldn’t watch this match.

WINNER – Maryse

MATCH 4 – Chavo Guerrero vs Santino Marella

Santino made sure to suck up to the crowd and get the cheap pop from the crowd. It was a great match, with I being one of the only people in my section to cheer on Chavito. Now, I’m not sure what this “Cobra” gimmick finisher is, but I swear it looks alot like the Vulcan Nerve Pinch.

WINNER (via Spock gimmick) – Santino Marella

MATCH 5 – Carlito & Alicia Fox vs Chris Masters & Eve

Ok, I’m just putting this out there, but I don’t care who you are, you’re biggest part of your gimmick should not be you making your floppy man breasts dance *shudders*! Anyways, most of this match was either Carlito keeping away from Masters, or just Eve and Alicia going at it. But, we did get the Masterlock from BOTH Masters and Eve. Enjoyed that very much!

WINNERS – Chris Masters & Eve

Intermission here, so on we go!

MATCH 6 – Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase vs Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston

This is when I was arguing with concessions on those cups, so yeah, didn’t get to see much here. Did see the great finish though, as Kofi hit the Boom Drop and Bourne hit a BEAUTIFUL Shooting Star Press! Marked totally out for Air Bourne!

WINNERS – Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston

After the match, Ted helped Cody up, only to take him out with Dream Street! Was it a good idea? If it means we will soon see a face Teddy D., I think it’s an amazing idea!

MATCH 7 – The Miz vs MVP for the WWE United States Championship

Ok, now this should have been the main event. It truly stole the show in my opinion! These two guys worked so well, and even if there were those occasional botches, they covered it up in an instant. I truly think, though, that MVP may need to freshen up a little before looking for that huge push. Miz, on the other hand, was on his game tonight! There were so many false finishes in this one, I ended up upsetting the little girl behind me just because I didn’t want view blocked from everyone (sorry little girl =] ). Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale and it was done!

WINNER – The Miz (Because he’s AAAAWESOOOOOME!!!)

MAIN EVENT – The Big Show & Randy Orton vs John Cena & Mark Henry

So many twists and turns here and there in this match. I mean, Cena hit Move of Death #1 (aka The Bulldog from the side) right off the bat, Orton basically looked like he as jobbing, and the match tried to put all it’s hot spots in early. The most weird part was the finish. Henry ends up taking Orton out of the match, leaving Show and Cena in, and when it looked like Show was going to hit the Chokeslam, none other than Hornswoggle, in all of his DX gear, came out, gave Big Show a Sweet Ankle Music (See what I did there?), and Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment for the win! My reaction: WTF just happened?!?!?

WINNERS (via Too Many Gimmicks) – John Cena & Mark Henry

FINAL THOUGHTS

So, you may be think, “Was it a good idea to watch this show?” Um… not really! I mean, besides the epic rematch between Swagger and Christian, Masters and Eve pulling off the Masertlocks together, seeing the greatest Shooting Star Press in the world, and The Miz and MVP’s fantastic match, there was nothing to this show. The only real build towards Mania was Miz and MVP. Now, if we could have seen something like Orton vs Rhodes or DiBiase, or have Batista just demolish Cena and cost him his match, then they may have had something.

Well, now we just have to wait until the end of the year, when (we think, but with how many changes this show had, who knows) SmackDown hits Amarillo. Until then, or if I post some results from indy feds here in Amarillo, stay golden WrestleView!
