Introduction (By: Mr. V student Ricky Langston)

**Side Note: If you want to come up with an intro to Mr. V’s column, please send me an e-mail. I think I can make this a weekly thing.**

*Before I begin this Introduction, I completely Deny all accusations of throwing spitballs and Paper Airplanes, I have nothing But respect for the Teacher and his Classroom*

Okay Children, Recess is over. CJ, Put the Paper Airplane away, and turn to Page 57…And get ready for Mr.V, The Educator, The 2009 WNL Football Champion, The Pittsburgh Examiner….and This, Is From the Desk of Mr.V.

Thank you Mr. Langston for the kind introduction. I welcome you all once again to my 57th class from the desk of Mr. V. Once again, I have a full slate to type about. We had some good moments and some bad. Some that got gold stars, and some that earned detentions (including one that got an all time record for detention requests). Also, I will post my Honor Roll, Gold Stars, Predictions Standings, and of course we will go over the Homework Assignment. So class, pencils down and clean off your desk. School is in session and I am the teacher for the next ?x? amount of minutes it takes you to read this material. School is in session.

Quote of the Week

?I?m getting my OWN show on WrestleView? ? Mr. V

YES! That is right students! Last weekend the powers that be on WrestleView had their Stonecutters-style meeting and both Dave Stephens (NEW RAW and NXT recapper) and I (ROH recapper) decided to throw a little sales pitch via Adam Martin’s e-mail account. I personally thought that David Stephens and I would create a great show for any site that took us in, but we really wanted to be on the WrestleView Radio Network.

So, within the next couple of weeks or so Professor Stephens and I will be taping a show and we will see if the editors enjoy the work. If so we plan on doing a show every week discussing various topics in wrestling and pop culture. If my sports fans have ever seen ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption, it will more than likely be that format.

The show will be called ?The Teacher’s Lounge?. I personally want David to get top billing since he will be producing it and for the fact that he is a tremendous writer and radio host. I am just honored to be along for the ride and I am looking forward to teaching my students on the airwaves as in this column. So, to Adam, Tom, Hunter, and Paul I would like to say thank you for giving us an opportunity.

Teacher Lecture

I don?t really have much of a lecture. I think by now the students know that I give decent takes under detentions and gold stars anyway, so let’s save all of us some time and just do it that way.

Detentions

ETS and the Praxis Series ? They are usually on this by default.

WWE Diva’s Division on RAW ? I know they can wrestle, but wow how bad was that match on 2/22?

Jerry Lawler ? For constantly chanting Jerry Springer’s first name. That is SO 15 years ago.

Scott Hall ? I know he is playing a role in TNA, but he just looked goofy taking bumps from Kevin Nash on the 2/18 edition of Impact.

Internet fans that are crying over Bryan Danielson’s instant ?tap out? to Jericho ? I would have been upset if it just happened, but let’s see?Jericho did a Codebreaker, then applied pressure on the neck while doing the Walls of Jericho. At least be happy that Danielson is getting built up on NXT rather than be buried on RAW’s mid-card purgatory with NO build up.

David Otunga ? Work on your finisher, please.

TNA’s treatment of Samoa Joe and Daniels ? The two men challenged for AJ’s Title the last few months and now look what happened. Daniels lost to Kurt Angle in ninety seconds and Samoa Joe lost clean to Orlando Jordan. Other than that, I had a great time watching Impact.

The TNA dude that had the ?Bring Back Bubba? signs ? TNA, just don?t do it.

The ?5-Hour Energy Guy? ? I find your comments offensive about running for the coffee. I do that and I not once had an energy crash from drinking coffee. Gold Star to anyone who punches him in the grill.

The WWE Pyro Technician ? On the job description, it should state ?Don?t burn wrestler, especially The Undertaker?. That person cannot blame the economy for his departure.

2010 U.S. Census Rap ? I am sorry, but I don?t need people to tell me to sign a paper that three people live in my place. Please stop promoting this. Besides, all the money will go to Philadelphia anyway haha.

Tiger Woods ? Sorry, I am not buying that apology. The wife should be the FIRST person you should apologize to. Here is what I wish actually should happen to Tiger Woods?

And also, this classic?

Why go to therapy, when you could have Courtney Taylor whack a 9-iron below the belt a few times, right?

Wait, Johnny Damon and IRS made it in my column, I am reaching the big time now!

Dunce Cap of Doom

Since many readers expressed their frustrations to this one man in WWE (Since NXT I got nine people all requesting this man be placed in detention), I decided to bring back the Dunce Cap of Doom. This man though improved on his commentary, he antics on NXT proved that over a decade of employment does not mean you know everything?

Michael ?Vintage-Vicious-Viper-Apex Predator-ONETWOWEHAVEANEWCHAMPNOKICKOUTATTWO-OH MY? Cole, congratulations on making my column once again in a bad way!

My new nickname for him pretty much covered everything he said at the Chamber Pay Per View, huh? Seriously though, I think he comments were fed to him by one Vince McMahon. Cole is worried about his job and will do anything. That is my take on that whole Cole bashing on Danielson. Kudos to Josh Mathews for coming back with some witty feedback. Cole felt as uncomfortable as Tiger Woods addressing select people last weekend.

Mister V’s Honor Roll for the Week of February 15 ? February 21, 2010

Here was Mr. V’s schedule in regards to grading these matches.

2/15 – Graded WWE Monday Night Raw matches
2/16 – Graded ECW Matches (next week it will be WWE NXT)
2/17 – Column Writing. After that, I watched ROH on YouTube and recapped it.
2/18 – Graded WWE Superstars and TNA Impact matches (usually called ?the grind?)
2/19 – Graded Smackdown Matches
2/20 – OFF DAY
2/21 – Graded FCW Matches

Overall, a pretty good past week of professional wrestling. I was pleased for the most part, as I thought most of them were C or above. There were a few that did not make the grade in which you will see in my grade book. Now, please let me show you all my top three matches of the week.

Distinguished Honors ? Kevin Steen vs. Delirious, ROH on HDNet, February 15.

Winner: Steen via the Crossface Submission Hold.

Grade: B+

I really was impressed with Steen’s in ring presence and psychology. I enjoyed this contest from top to bottom, as both men were able to connect various types of moves. There was a great flow, as no one really had total advantage until Kevin Steen made Delirious submit to the Crossface. Though Delirious lost his spot in the Pick 6 Contenders? Series, he really gave it his all in this show. Steen’s heel character just continued to get better. A great performance by both men and I look forward to more work from the two of them in the future.

High Honors ? Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox, WWE Superstars, February 18.

Winner: Mysterio via 619 and Top Rope Splash

Grade: B

Overall, the match showed the positives in Knox’s offense. He kept it slow-paced for the most part, but that was great if a guy like Knox constructed the match that way. I think honestly this was the best match Mike Knox was ever in since he appeared on Smackdown. Mysterio really needed to have a good showing here to lead into the Chamber match, and it was accomplished. Mysterio really took a lot of bumps and bruises that night, but it was nothing compared to how many times he took a beating last Sunday.

Honors ? Kaval vs. Alberto Banderas vs. Trent Barreta, FCW, February 21.

Winner: Kaval def. both men when he delivered the Warrior’s Way on Barreta

Grade: B-

Usually I am not one to grade three-way matches high, but this one was basic yet effective. In the future, Trent Barreta will be a star. His in-ring work in this contest was great. Each man featured a different style, and I really enjoyed that the most. Barreta showed some promise by hitting a textbook-looking suplex. Banderas showed great progress in this match, and I was very impressed when he landed a perfect moonsault on Kaval late in the battle. But it was Kaval coming out on top, and his leg strikes were absolutely flawless. Kaval earned a #1 Contenders Match for this and it will not surprise me if he defeats Justin Ang..I mean Gabriel in the near future to be the FCW Champion.

And now, for Mr. V’s Grade Book this week!

Mission FAILED!!!!

Remember last week when I poured my heart out to Dixie Carter and her friends at TNA to give the house show event to the CCBC Golden Dome in Monaca, PA. Well, after a couple of weeks of pleading and begging to Ms. Carter they picked a spot? The Chess-a-rena. Honestly, I am disappointed. I thought our location would be great. It must have been because I offered Prune Juice. I should have purchased some bandages after Flair’s altercation with his wife.

Commentator Report Card

Well, this is part three of three with my first batch of the commentator report card. This week, I analyzed briefly the commentary on Monday Night Raw (from 2/15) and TNA Impact (from 2/18).

Monday Night Raw

Michael Cole ? B-
Jerry Lawler ? C-

I can say this, since Cole received the Rotten Apple for Worst Commentary he has improved on his game. He even called Kelly Kelly a ?loose-lipped hussy?, and that to me improved his grade. But in all honestly, he called the matches much better and did not let Lawler get to him. Cole’s emotions were in check and he sounded more genuine than before. Cole’s flow was actually pretty good, as he had no lapses in his commentary. As for Lawler, it just seemed like he was reading off a script. He did not really explain anything, just the basic two cents. In 2010, we got some good commentary, and the Lawler I have seen that night makes him a leading candidate for Worst Commentator of 2010. So, in conclusion Cole actually improved from the past few months. He appears more relaxed and it is about time. As for Lawler, he is just really out of it since WWE went PG on him.

TNA Impact

Mike Tenay ? A-
Taz ? B

Tenay was near perfect on commentary last week. The card was a bit on the weak side, but Tenay knew how to call the matches by showing his emotions when the time was right. Though he went off topic for a bit, he accurately called almost every move in each contest. Taz is there for some humor. When no one is barking in his ear piece, Taz is actually a decent color commentator. However, he at times went off topic and just acted a bit crazy. If he acted crazy when the timing was right, it would be different. Still, both men told a good story before each match, called moves correctly during the contests, and were able to summarize each storyline well. This by far is the best announcing team TNA ever had.

There will be NO Grading of the commentators next week so I can take a short break. However I will be doing another Commentator Report Card on March 11, 2010.

Predictions From The Faculty ? The Results

Of course by now, the Elimination Chamber PPV is over and done. We got two new champions in Batista and Chris Jericho. Drew McIntyre defended his Intercontinental Championship, but Kane put on a clinic. The Miz and MVP got an impromptu US Title match in which I considered the best undercard match on the PPV. Mark Henry did his best Kool-Aid Man impression by crashing through a wall (I was hoping for an ?O YEAH? at the end of that). And the Diva’s Championship was scrapped so Vickie Guerrero could get some air time.

First off, The Faculty agreed that the Diva’s Title match be thrown out since there was not a match. Second, since Cena won the Chamber match for the WWE Championship (which seconds later lost it to Batista) we gave credit to those who picked Cena to win the Chamber.

As for the Student of the Week, TJ Patton posted a 3-0 record so he retains the honors to be the Student of the Week. However, Frank Contorno earned a 3-0 record as well and he will earn a deserving Gold Star for his efforts.

The students on average got a 1.8 ? 1.2 record among fifteen of them. Therefore by the Estimation Rule, the students got a 2-1 record.

And Yes, I am still in last place. So much for me being a wrestling expert. I feel like the Pittsburgh Pirates right now.

MISTER V?S GOLD STAR SEGMENT (As always it is sponsored by JR’s Family Bar-B-Q! Can?t decide on BBQ, Hot BBQ, or Chipotle Ketchup? I know I can?t. So Good Ol? JR solved my problem. JR’s 3 Sauce 12-Pack! All for $47.88 you can get four bottles of each sauce. WrestleMania is only 31 days away folks, so stock up on some great JR’s Products).

No further delay, here are the Gold Star recipients.

TJ Patton and Frank Contorno ? Each recording a 3-0 record in the Predictions from the Faculty column. Congrats to the both of you. You both did better than all of us again.

ALL the Professors ? We all got 2-1 records, so we all get a Gold Star.

John Cena ? Your NEW WWE Champion for a mere few minutes.

Batista ? Your NEW WWE Champion

The Undertaker ? You earned yourself a month’s worth of Gold Stars for toughing it out and competing in front of the fans even though you were burnt from a flame. It tells the students that The Deadman is more manly than any member of Metallica, sorry.

CM Punk ? For your ability to cut a promo inside the Elimination Chamber. One of the best moments since I started watching wrestling again. Also, for winning the 2009 Dream Tournament (more on that later)

Chris Jericho ? Your NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion

Maryse ? Your NEW Diva’s Champion

Josh Mathews ? He earned one for his witty comments at Michael Cole during NXT.

The Miz and Bryan Daniel ? I graded this pairing as an ?A? last week. Look it up and please allow me to pat myself on the back.

WWE NXT ? What a GREAT debut show! Daniel vs. Jericho is my top match of the week so far (but I STILL have TNA, ROH, SD, Superstars, AND FCW to go!). The show exceeded my expectations and I am looking forward to a helping of that next week.

To all that did their homework assignment ? I did not forget any of you and we will discuss everything later.

Wendi Richter ? The 3rd member of the WWE Hall of Fame 2010.

TNA ? for having some great storylines on Impact (not all, but most).

Kevin Steen and Steve Corino ? They are a great little team in Ring of Honor right now.

Dave Stephens ? This week it was announced that he is the NEW recapper for Monday Night Raw. It now allows me to have a dream show one of these days called ?Recap Roundtable? along with Josh Boutwell and Mike Tedesco.

Tiffany ? For delivering a spear that even Ancient Gladiators would be proud of.

Charlie Daniels ? For playing a mean fiddle.

Homework Assignment Analysis

Well, let’s answer the first question out of the way.

Finals of the 2009 Dream Tournament are as follows:

(13) CM Punk defeated (7) Randy Orton 17-3!

That is right, class! The tournament started with Jericho defeating Juventud Guerrera 32-0 and we ended it with ?The Straightedge Superstar? almost shutting out Orton. Thanks to the hundreds of votes overall. I hope we can do it again next year.

Now the second question was who will breakthrough for their respective companies in 2010. I got a few responses to this and now I shall present them to the entire class of WrestleView.

Those who participated in answering the question: Antonio DeGaetano; Rick Jackson; Greg Walek; Robert Tochterman; Richard Misfeldt; Suzanne Abshire; Jeremy Samples; Moiz; Rocky Jr.; Michael Pinion; TJ Patton; and Pat Lorang.

Many of you provided your reasons for these and I say thank you. Let me post some of them on here so future students know that I do read my students e-mails. And to those that consistently enjoy my work weekly all I can say is thank you for reading them all.

WWE:

From Rick Jackson ?I think Ted DiBiase Jr. will break away from Legacy in much the same way Orton broke away from Evolution all those years ago. I’d imagine Orton’s reaction will be akin to Triple-H’s then.?

From Michael Pinion ?In WWE, I stand behind The Hart Dynasty on Smackdown. Right now, they are hitting the glass ceiling. I feel when they break it by beating the Tag Team Champions (whoever it is at the time); they will breakthrough in a big way and revitalize the tag team scene. If Vince was smart, he would put the belts on this young team and go along for the ride. The combination of Smith and Kidd remind me the mixture of Hart Foundation and the British Bulldogs is the way how they mixed the style together. I remember when the Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation started out against each other back in the 80’s, and then they both finally broke through in a big way. I see big things from this tag team in the future.?

From TJ Patton ?The Miz is just position for bigger things this year after a great rise last year.?

TNA:

From Moiz ?The Pope: My god is he over with the crowd not to mention a solid performer WWE dropped the ball with Burke.?

ROH:

From Jeremy Samples ?Breakout superstar is Tyler Black. I know this will upset my teacher, but I have to truly believe that this kid will only get better as the year comes along. He already has the skills, now he just needs the confidence.?

The final students tallies for Breakout Superstar of 2010

For the WWE:

1) (tie) Ted DiBiase Jr. and The Miz with five votes each
2) (tie) Daniel Bryan and Christian with three votes each
3) Ezekiel Jackson received two votes.
The names with one vote are as follows: Vance Archer, Gail Kim, John Morrison, Zack Ryder, Yoshi Tatsu, Tyson Kidd, DH Smith, Jack Swagger, and R-Truth.

Mr. V’s Take: For the most part, the students did a tremendous job on picking a breakout superstar for the largest in the pro wrestling industry. I was very surprised to see Ezekiel Jackson earn more than a vote, as I do see him as a brute force. However, Jackson needs to prove a little bit more in order to be a Champion in the Intercontinental or U.S. level. I was very surprised to only see Daniel Bryan get three votes. I for one see great things with him on NXT. As a whole, I am impressed.

Mr. V’s Breakout Stars of 2010 for the WWE:

The Miz ? It is obvious that they are booking him the right way on RAW. It failed over the summer, but he really built up his character and now is a focal point on RAW and now NXT. Get used to his face, class. He is going to be on television for a while. I see him earning a WWE Title shot (or World Heavyweight if he is drafted to Smackdown), but as for winning a world title I can?t see it at that moment. Still, he will be a top heel and he is more than ready to accept that.

Ted DiBiase Jr. ? Over a year we all have been waiting for that face turn. Well, they are still in teasing mode, but it is obvious that he will be a face in the near future. Technically, I think DiBiase is almost ready to be higher on the RAW card. If Orton was able to make Kofi Kingston a household name in 2009, he will do the same for DiBiase in 2010. I expect once DiBiase is done feuding with Orton he will be in line for the United States (or IC) Championship and will earn a title sometime in 2010.

Daniel Bryan ? When a student asks ?Mr. V, why are they burying him on NXT?, I simply answer that question by saying this. Would a Danielson fan want to see him as a top man on NXT and build him up the right way with the arrogant Miz or do you want him to get no build up and be on the mid-to-low card on a RAW or Smackdown. After what I saw on NXT, I am making a safe bet by the end of 2010 Bryan will win the United States Championship.

Also, keep an eye on:

Christian ? My Money in the Bank favorite and could finally win an elusive World Title.

Eve Torres ? She has the tools to be a Diva’s Champion, but she needs to be more consistent.

John Morrison ? With a DVD out and building up more fan support, expect him to be closing in on the World Title.

Joe Hennig ? If they replace Ted in Legacy (I expect Cody Rhodes to still team with Orton), I think Hennig is the favorite.

Kaval ? Once this feud between Rey Mysterio and CM Punk is over, Kaval may either feud with Mysterio or help Mysterio feud with the Straightedge Society.

AJ Lee ? The current Queen of FCW easily reminds me of Melina. She is doing pretty well right now in FCW and a call-up is real close to happening.

Some of the NXT ?rookies? ? Keep an eye out on Health Slater (for charisma), Michael Tarver (for his punches), Wade Barrett (for his power), and Justin Gabriel (his overall ability). I think they are almost ready and NXT will really help these guys out.

For TNA:

1) Desmond Wolfe with five votes.
2) D?Angelo Dinero with four votes.
3) Generation Me and Mr. Anderson with three votes each.
4) Matt Morgan with two votes.

The names with one vote are as follows: Daffney, Jesse Neal, Sarita, AJ Styles, The Nasty Boys, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair

My Take: I think those that received more than one vote are in the cusp of breaking out. Morgan was my choice for 2009, but his push has been stalled. At least Morgan is holding the Tag Title. Generation Me can really go and would have been a great fit for TNA’s X Division two years ago. However, with the new Hogan/Bischoff regime it looks unlikely that ?Me? will fight for the tag titles (hope I am wrong). Dinero and Wolfe are both good choices to reach that top card. Dinero already accomplished that and will be in the main event come Lockdown. As for Wolfe, he showed that he could go with anyone when he almost beat Kurt Angle at Turning Point. Though nothing is in store for the former Nigel McGuinness, I think Wolfe could be a main event player come the middle part of the year.

Mr. V’s Breakout Stars of 2010 for TNA:

This one is actually pretty difficult because the roster is amazingly thin on up-and-coming talent, but here we go.

D?Angelo Dinero ? He work in TNA is almost making me forget about his run in WWE. Vince McMahon really overlooked Dinero and now he is already fighting for the top prize in TNA. He may need to improve in the ring a bit, but his charisma will take him very far in TNA.

Desmond Wolfe ? I agree with the students here. Wolfe showed us that he is more than ready based on the work we saw with him against Kurt Angle. I am mainly picking him in this category because of the future. I really do see him as a top guy in the middle part of 2010, when TNA finally gets everything in order. Besides, as long as AJ Styles is the TNA World Champion I don?t see Wolfe sniffing a shot.

Abyss ? I know he already won the championship a few years ago. Since then, what has he done? Become the ?Anti-Monster. Here is hoping this ?pep talk? from the Hulkster gives him that kick in the @$$ that he really needed.

Eric Young ? This is a darkhorse for me, but I think TNA is going to use him better. He was great in the World Elite faction as the leader (though I first did not like it). If he has a strong showing teaming up with Kevin Nash, I could see him winning back the Global Title or at least a Tag Title.

Keep an eye on:

Generation Me ? The former ?Young Bucks? are the best young tag team in professional wrestling today. However in the slower-paced product, Generation Me is a bit limited on television time. I hope I am wrong.

Jay Lethal ? ?If? the drop the Macho Madness and Consequences Creed, I could see him breaking out and maybe having a feud with a Homicide or someone in that X Division.

Kaz ? Now that he is no longer a video game character, he can go back to being himself in the ring. An X Division Title is not out of the picture.

Madison Rayne ? I saw her work on SHIMMER, she is not bad. Among The Beautiful People, she is the most gifted in the ring.

Awesome Kong ? If TNA wants to do something totally different, put her up against the guys and see what happens. Who knows, maybe a Global Title is not out of the picture (remember, anything can happen at TNA).

For ROH:

1) Roderick Strong and Tyler Black with two votes each.
2) Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli, Erick Stevens, and Kenny King with one vote each.

My Take: I completely understand the underwhelming response with it comes to Ring of Honor. However, the students that voted on this chose wisely. I think all of them have a legitimate shot at a title of some sort.

Mr. V’s Breakout Stars of 2010 for Ring of Honor:

Tyler Black ? Well, he already broke out as he became the youngest ROH Champion at 23. Though I still think he needs to work a bit better on the mic, ROH may know something that I don?t.

Kenny King ? I see a star in this guy. He reminds me of a younger, quicker version of Shelton Benjamin. The ROH TV Title is a good bet for him in the near future.

Erick Stevens ? Another guy that really needs to build up a character, and what better way to do it than to put him in The Embassy faction.

Davey Richards ? Now that he has signed a deal to stay with ROH I can see him seriously winning the ROH Title. He is one of the best pound-for-pound and is a good fit in ROH (in TNA or WWE, he would not nearly be as successful at this time).

Kevin Steen ? Now with a new gimmick and a manager/wrestler in Steve Corino, Steen may soon have his sights set on the ROH World Title

Keep an eye on:

Roderick Strong ? With the way he kicks the competition and by destroying his opponents back, I could seriously see him as the ROH World Champ in the future. However, not in 2010.

Rhett Titus ? He is getting over by some crowds now, and he is one of the best storytellers in the ring for ROH. He may have the best ?gimmick? on the roster.

Kings of Wrestling ? Castagnoli and Hero are a great tag team. If they stay together, they will reign supreme as Tag Team Champions.

Colt Cabana ? He is a top guy already for ROH after a failed run in the WWE as Scotty Goldman. He fits much better in ROH. However, with Black as the champ Cabana’s chances are slim.

Delirious ? For some reason, I could see him with the TV Title in 2010. He is another one of those fundamentally sound wrestlers.
