Jonathan Coachman claims one aspect of Lesnar/Cormier confrontation wasn’t planned

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio on SiriusXM satellite radio, host Dave LaGreca was joined by WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman and comedian Dan Soder to discuss Brock Lesnar’s confrontation with Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 recently.

Immediately following the confrontation, many in the sports media and MMA media criticized the UFC for the back-and-forth between Lesnar and Cormier, feeling that it felt too much like a scripted pro wrestling situation instead of a genuine moment.

Coachman brought up speaking with a source in the UFC who was in attendance the night of the PPV and having backstage knowledge on the confrontation between the two.

“I got this from a direct source. This is 100% fact, that when Brock Lesnar came into the octagon, he shoved Daniel Cormier. I said to my source, when I was talking to him, who was there and was backstage, I said, ‘Man, they had to have talked about that.’ He was so pissed because Cormier made it so WWE…that Brock was mad that Cormier did it that way, that, that shove was real. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t talked about. Him coming in was. But the shove that everyone said was ‘so WWE’ – Brock didn’t want it that way. Brock wanted it just on that fine line.”

Comedian Dan Soder, who is also a big wrestling fan, was also in studio during the segment and said it came off like Lesnar saw Cormier going for the “WWE type promo” and quickly squashed that from continuing by shoving Cormier inside the cage.

You can check out the show above, with the Lesnar/Cormier talk starting at 2:45 mark.
