Don Muraco has a history of being one of the most intense stars in wrestling history. The former WWF Intercontinental Champion’s promos were some of the most memorable in history. During the interview, James Guttman cites a particular promo he had just seen where Don seemed to almost spit out his anger about Tito Santana. Muraco says he’s always believed in keeping things as real as possible and reveals a recent suggestion he made to someone at WWE in an effort to play off reality today…

“I was talking to Howard Finkel several weeks ago when the Tiger Woods thing was going down. I said Vince really missed the boat on that. He should have been running around (like that). That’s how millionaires and billionaires live. Howard said (Vince) didn’t want to muddy the waters of the senatorial race his wife was in, so he didn’t push it too far. But that would have been my call if I was Vince there. That would have been funny. That would have been apropos.”

Don goes on to discuss rumors of Woods hosting Raw, his relationship with Vince McMahon, the TNT skit where McMahon purposely messed with his teleprompter, his history with Roddy Piper and Adrian Adonis, the groundbreaking TV they were all doing long before their WWF days, and more.

Don expressed the respect he has for what the McMahon family did for the wrestling business. The company expanded by leaps and bounds when Muraco was there and the travel schedule could sometimes be horrendous. They took all sorts of transportation to the next show rather ththan flying. Don then tells ClubWWI.com members about a very recent newsbit he heard that couldn’t help but make him smile:

“Yeah. That organization Vince put together really turned into an international thing. I just read yesterday that the guys were having problems getting around because of the volcano in Iceland. They’re going by boat and ferry and plane and car to get to the next town or something. Welcome to our world, guys! (laughs)”

The difference in travel isn’t just limited to today. Back in the ’80s, WWF had a schedule unlike any other. Muraco tells the story of a big NWA star who was shocked by it when he jumped to WWF. That’s when James points out that Don never jumped to WCW. Muraco says he was in the NWA, but never in WCW after Ted Turner bought it. The reason:

“No. I kind of stepped out of the business after ’88. I was still connected, you know, overseas and doing stuff with individual promotions but I didn’t (go to WCW). I went to ECW, for a little while, because of Bob Artese. That was just a starting up thing at the time. But other than that, I pretty much got out of the business after ’88.”

The Magnificent Muraco’s 35 minute interview goes on from there and for any fan of classic wrestling, this is an interview that’s on the can’t miss list.
