Predictions: WWE Money in the Bank PPV

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Money in the Bank 2010 Edition
July 18, 2010
Introduction and Closure by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com
Predictions by: WrestleView Columnists and Recappers

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty”. This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV.

The card features seven matches (including TWO Money in the Bank Ladder Matches).

As for the columnists, last week David Stephens had a very strong showing at 7-1 for the TNA Victory Road Pay-Per-View. Unfortunately, Josh Boutwell and Jose Marrero both decided last week was the best time to go 8-0. So, overall, there are three professors sharing the Dean’s Chair this week.f

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they thing will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case it will be Royal Rumble 2011).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings. We all thank you for your participation.

Before I show the class our selections, here are the rankings as of TNA’s Victory Road.

2010-2011 Season (As of TNA’s Victory Road 2010)

1) David Stephens (That’s a Wrap and RAW Recapper)………….53-29 (7-1)
2) Josh Boutwell (Viva La Raza and TNA Recapper)……………….53-29 (8-0)
3) Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings)……………………………………53-29 (8-0)
4) Students of the Week (The Best from Prev. PPV)………………49-33 (6-2)*
5) Daniel Browne (For Queen and Country)……………………………..49-33 (7-1)
6) Matt O’Brien (Notes From The Nosebleeds)…………………………48-34 (7-1)
7) WrestleView Students (The Loyal Readers)………………………..47-35 (6-2)
8) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V/ROH Recaps)……….47-35 (6-2)
9) Doug Lackey (Reality From Ringside)…………………………………..45-37 (6-2)
10) Mike Tedesco (Smackdown and NXT Recapper)…………………39-28 (NR)
11) Jeff Springer (WWE Superstars Recapper)……………………………35-27 (4-4)
12) Sean Hurley (The Sharpshooter)………………………………………..28-32 (NR)
13) Joe Baiamonte (Baiamonte’s Casa/2009 WV Champ)………24-20 (NR)

We will have three students of the week this time around. Bryan Czygan, Paul Meade, and Austen Allen all scored a perfect 8-0 record for Victory Road.

Absent from this Week: (if they send their picks before the PPV, I will count it.) Student of the Week Brian Czygan, Sean Hurley, and Joe Baiamonte.

In order to be the Student of the Week, the WrestleView Student must get a better single PPV record than the other WV Students as well as the Student of the Week. If the Student of the Week ties a WV Student, then the Student of the Week will retain.

Without further adieu, here are our predictions.

Non-Title Matches

Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Ted DiBiase, Jr. vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge vs. The Miz vs. Evan Bourne vs. John Morrison vs. Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry

David S. – I have to go with RANDY ORTON on this one, mainly because I need to play it smart. In order to hold on to my dean’s chair (even if it is co), I have to be smart this PPV. I took a risk last week on Abyss knowing that even if I lost that match, I would still be in a co-holder position. They have built this match up as Edge’s, with Randy Orton being the man to deny him the case. I have to go with RAW’s booking on this one.

Josh B. – ORTON.

Jose M. – EVAN BOURNE, what better way to keep Evan’s push going and to make up for the last couple of weeks than letting him get this big win. Besides someone has to eventually cash in and lose MITB.

Austen A. – RANDY ORTON.

Paul M. – Randy Orton has been on fire lately, and has had the upper hand, but it seems like Evan Bourne is in line for a big push. Edge and Jericho probably will be feuding again, and no one else has a chance of winning, so I’ll have to go with EVAN BOURNE.

Daniel B. – THE MIZ.

Matt O. – CHRIS JERICHO.

Anthony V. – I think out of these eight six of them have a great chance of winning the case. DiBiase and Henry have no chance. Bourne I can see coming very close, but will miss out. Morrison I think is slowly going down a good bit. So that leaves Miz, Edge, Jericho, and Orton. You know what, I am going to take a risk and go with THE MIZ. I am a fan of his work recently and if he wins he will take both the US Title and the Case everywhere (including NXT). My next in line pick would be Jericho.

Doug L. – THE MIZ via ‘the only performer without a presently-running program’ logic. Edge-Orton, Jericho-Bourne, JoMo-Ted Jr., Henry in due to R-Truth’s naughty area injury… ’nuff said.

Mike T. – EDGE.

Jeff S. – EVAN BOURNE.

Consensus: There were eleven of the WrestleView’s finest columnists and students and we could not pick a solid winner. If you were the betting type, do not put money on DiBiase, Morrison, or Henry. And even though Edge and Jericho earned one vote there is a three-way tie to win the Raw MITB Ladder Match. So as of now it is safe to either go with THE MIZ, RANDY ORTON, or even EVAN BOURNE.

Randy Orton, Evan Bourne, and The Miz got 3 votes each. Chris Jericho and Edge got 1 vote each.

Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match
The Big Show vs. Matt Hardy vs. Christian vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Kane vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler

David S. – I really want to see Christian hold the World Belt. Like, I REALLY want to see CHRISTIAN win it, so I am going with my heart on this one.

Josh B. – CHRISITAN.

Jose M. – DREW MCINTYRE because I predicted him incorrectly at WrestleMania.

Austen A. – KANE.

Paul M. – I’ve read that KANE is in line to get a big push, so I think he’ll win this match and finally win another world title.

Daniel B. – DREW MCINTYRE.

Matt O. – DREW MCINTYRE.

Anthony V. – I have no idea is going to win this match. Matt Hardy, “Dashing”, and Kane should not win this. The Big Show is fine where he is at and looks like he will feud with the S.E.S. now that CM Punk was unmasked. Kingston will have amazing spots, but since he is the IC Champ right now that is his ceiling. So that leaves Drew, Christian, and Dolph. Drew may still be in the doghouse, Christian, thought popular, is going nowhere, and Dolph has Vickie. It will go down to Christian and Ziggler and I think due to a distraction from a Cougar CHRISTIAN will win the case and I hope he gets the world title shot he deserves.

Doug L. – KANE via the most convoluted fantasy booking scenario of all time. For some reason… I just see this happening only to set up an inevitable title match in the future between himself and Undertaker after he wakes up. Weird…

Mike T. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Jeff S. – CHRISTIAN.

Consensus: Well if there was one thing the finest at WrestleView can agree on, it is that Matt Hardy, Big Show, Kofi Kingston, and “Dashing” Rhodes will not win this match. One decided to go with Vickie’s “associate” Dolph Ziggler and a few went with the veteran Kane as well as “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre. However, we finally have one wrestler that some of us gave the edge too. Thought we think four wrestlers have a shot at it most went with CHRISTIAN to earn that big win in his career (and possibly a future world championship).

CHRISITAN 4, Drew McIntyre and Kane 3, Dolph Ziggler 1.

For the WWE Divas Championship
Alicia Fox (c) vs. Eve Torres

David S. – I f’ing hate ALICIA FOX. But, I think she is going to win it. F me.

Josh B. – ALICIA FOX.

Jose M. – ALICIA FOX because it’s too soon to take the title off of her and Melina is on her way back soon.

Austen A. – ALICIA FOX.

Paul M. – I wish this would title reign would end, but WWE management is high on ALICIA FOX right now and they’re not going to end her reign after one month.

Daniel B. – ALICIA FOX.

Matt O. – ALICIA FOX.

Anthony V. – Though I am a fan of Eve Torres no matter what anyone says, I have to say that ALICIA FOX will botch her way to another win.

Doug L. – FOX via Eve’s horrendous mic work last week. Because of Eve’s horrible job behind the announcers’ desk last week, she has set her character back at least 3 months.

Mike T. – EVE TORRES.

Jeff S. – ALICIA FOX.

Consensus: Only Professor Tedesco has faith that Eve Torres could win her second Divas Championship. Though we don’t want to see this happening, ALICIA FOX should retain her championship according to this group of individuals.

ALICIA FOX 10, Eve Torres 1.

For the WWE Women’s Championship
Layla (c) vs. Kelly Kelly

David S. – LAYLA! I’m a big Kelly Kelly fan, but I just don’t see the belt leaving team LayCool. Net yet at least.

Josh B. – LAYLA.

Jose M. – LAYLA because I think it helps NXT to have Laycool as champions.

Austen A. – KELLY KELLY.

Paul M. – I don’t think Layla or McCool would lose the title unless it resulted in them being broken up, and I don’t see that happening when they are pros for NXT. I’m going with LAYLA here.

Daniel B. – LAYLA.

Matt O. – LAYLA.

Anthony V. – Kelly is getting a nice push, but with the help of Michelle McCool it is clear that LAYLA will retain her title. I am banking on Beth Phoenix being the next Women’s Champion.

Doug L. – LAYLA via ‘not yet’ mentality. No changes in this one yet either. It’s time to ride the “Layla as Champion” bus until it stops at Stable Breakup Blvd.

Mike T. – KELLY KELLY.

Jeff S. – KELLY KELLY.

Consensus: Though more people are confident in Kelly’s chances than Eve’s, The WrestleView Faculty predicts that LAYLA will retain her Women’s Championship over the spunky challenger. LayCool will reign supreme on Smackdown.

LAYLA 8, Kelly Kelly 3.

For the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship
The Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith) (c’s) vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)

David S. – THE HART DYNASTY, because The Usos have yet to impress me.

Josh B. – THE HART DYNASTY.

Jose M. – USO’s because the feud will continue.

Austen A. – THE HART DYNASTY.

Paul M. – This one could go either way, but I’m going to go with the HART DYNASTY and see the Usos chase the titles a little longer.

Daniel B. – THE USOS.

Matt O. – DYNASTY.

Anthony V. – I was considering going with the Usos, but what have they won? I don’t even think I can could the number of WWE matches they won on my hand. The Hart Dyansty’s momentum has went downhill since Bret Hart left. I think THE HART DYNASTY will win this match, but the Usos will win it within the next three or four weeks, possibly on Raw.

Doug L. – HART DYNASTY cuz I really just don’t give a good goddam…

Mike T. – THE HART DYNASTY.

Jeff S. – THE HART DYNASTY.

Consensus: The Usos have been getting the advantage on The Hart Dynasty as of late. Did that persuade this group for predicting the challengers? Only for two of them. The majority expect THE HART DYNASTY to retain the Unified Tag straps.

THE HART DYNASTY 9, The Usos 2.

For the World Heavyweight Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Jack Swagger

David S. – REY REY, because I’ve never bought Swagger as a Champion. Sorry.

Josh B. – REY REY.

Jose M. – REY MYSTERIO because Jack Swagger has lost his swagger.

Austen A. – REY MYSTERIO.

Paul M. – REY just won the title, so I don’t see him losing it so quickly.

Daniel B. – JACK SWAGGER.

Matt O. – MYSTERIO.

Anthony V. – I was very entertained with the way Swagger just destroyed Mysterio last week. This week, I liked the story both continued on. Expect Rey to be limping and Swagger to be aggressive. Here is where I think Swagger will be “too” aggressive. REY MYSTERIO retains, but it will either be by a reversal pin move or DQ.

Doug L. – SWAGGER via Rey needing his time off. Rey’s been grabbing his ankle like MCMG grabs the air from hitting spot #248. Swagger snaps the poor little guy’s ankle, everyone happys! Rey gets vacay, Swags gets strap.

Mike T. – REY MYSTERIO.

Jeff S. – REY MYSTERIO.

Consensus: Though Swagger may have crippled Mysterio and did an extremely amount of damage to the knee, the faculty will not bet against REY MYSTERIO. Expect Swagger’s daddy to be disappointed this weekend. The majority predict that Mysterio will keep the Big Gold Belt for another few weeks.

REY MYSTERIO 9, Jack Swagger 2.

For the WWE World Championship
Steel Cage Match
Sheamus (c) vs. John Cena

David S. – I never pick against CENA. Ever.

Josh B. – CENA.

Jose M. – SHEAMUS because Nexus will somehow interfere.

Austen A. – SHEAMUS.

Paul M. – After Triple H had surgery, my pick for this match changed. SHEAMUS will win here and lose to Cena at Summerslam. Then, Sheamus will feud with HHH and Cena will feud with Barrett.

Daniel B. – SHEAMUS.

Matt O. – SHEAMUS.

Anthony V. – It is a steel cage match, but does one think Nexus will in fact interfere? It is more than likely. Cena was right to say Sheamus’ title wins were by table and by picking up the scraps. Also, this “is” a PPV and Cena rarely loses PPV contests. So I am going to go ahead and pick CENA to win the WWE Championship. If Jericho does in fact win MITB, I do expect Nexus to attack Cena and Jericho cashing it in right away to become the WWE World Champ.

Doug L. – SHEAMUS via the unnecessary burden of a belt on Cena in the continuing Nexus angle. Cena-Nexus does not need to involve a title to make it feel important… Sheamus-HHH @ Summerslam? That may need a strap….

Mike T. – SHEAMUS.

Jeff S. – JOHN CENA.

Consensus: Usually the faculty does not go against John Cena, but thanks in part to some future storylines and a possible Nexus distraction most of us selected SHEAMUS to escape the cage and retain the World Title.

SHEAMUS 7, John Cena 4
