Predictions from the Faculty
WWE SummerSlam Edition

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty”. This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming SummerSlam PPV.

The card features six matches. I did post on the e-mail from the columnists and Student of the Week that there would be a match with Laycool and Tiffany/Kelly Kelly. However, because of Tiffany’s recent suspension that match will more than likely not happen and we will not count that. That is why there will only be six matches to pick.

As for the columnists, David Stephens, Josh Boutwell, and Jose Marrero continue to be in a deadlocked tie as we approach the half-way point. All three co-Deans posted a 4-3 prediction in the last PPV we predicted, which was WWE’s Money in the Bank.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they thing will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case it will be Royal Rumble 2011).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings. We all thank you for your participation.

**NOTE: If you are looking hard for TNA’s Hardcore Justice picks, we did not a piece on that since only one match was officially booked beforehand.**

Before I show the class our selections, here are the rankings as of WWE’s Money in the Bank.

For more on David Stephens’ predictions, you can check out The Teacher’s Lounge.

Absent (and excused) for this weekend’s picks are: Daniel Browne, Mike Tedesco, Jeff Springer, Sean Hurley, and Joe Baiamonte.

Frank Contorno is our “Student of the Week” this week. On the last editions of Predictions from the Faculty, Frank represented the “WrestleView Students” well and stood out as the only person to go UNDEFEATED on the predictions for Money in the Bank. You will see his predictions this weekend.

Without further adieu, here are our predictions. Again, we are going to skip Kelly Kelly/Tiffany vs. LayCool due to Tiffany’s suspension.

Non-Championship Matches

3-on-1 Handicap Match
The Big Show vs. The Straight Edge Society (CM Punk, Luke Gallows, and Joey Mercury)

David S. – STRAIGHT EDGE SOCIETY ’cause seriously CM Punk should quit if he loses a three on one match against guys of that caliber.

Josh B. – SES.

Jose M. – SES.

Frank C. – SES.

Matt O. – THE BIG SHOW.

Anthony V. – I had a hard time predicting this match on The Teacher’s Lounge. On one end the S.E.S. are falling apart but also The Big Show is one of the top faces on the Smackdown roster. I gave the slight edge to THE BIG SHOW and CM Punk will take the loss out on his minions.

Doug L. – BIG SHOW via a slow deteriation within SES. This has been a great program/angle. Someone walking away from SES? Maybe. The only reason I don’t have them winning is because I don’t know how you build on this angle if they did. This program should go for another solid month.

Mike T. – The S.E.S.!

Consensus: THE SES 5; The Big Show 3.

7-on-7 Elimination Match (or 7-on-6, we don’t know)
Team Nexus (Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Darren Young, Skip Sheffield, and Michael Tarver)

Vs.

Team WWE (John Cena, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, R-Truth, Edge, and Bret Hart)

**The Great Khali was the 7th man, but was taken out on Monday Night Raw**

David S. – NEXUS in an effort to keep this storyline going. One fan suggested it get down to Cena and three guys with just not quite able to pull it off. Sounds good to me. Look for Wade v Cena coming to a PPV near you.

Josh B. – TEAM NEXUS.

Jose M. – TEAM NEXUS.

Frank C. – The angle still has juice, and can possibly go until Hell in a Cell. But, John Cena is in the match, and is never wise to pick against him…CENA/WWE.

Matt O. – NEXUS.

Anthony V. – If Cena’s team wins this match, then Nexus would fall apart easily. Cena’s team has nothing to neither lose nor gain. Nexus has A TON to gain and also A TON to lose as well. Cena always wins PPV’s, but I am going to pick NEXUS because they need it more.

Doug L. – TEAM NEXUS via the beginning of the longest WWE program since Orton-Cena ’09. Barrett-Cena is a no-brainer, but how about the others? Firebird rules for the tag titles when they come their way? Absolutely!

Mike T. – TEAM NEXUS – John Cena turns heel (wishful thinking)!

Consensus: TEAM NEXUS 7; Team WWE 1.

Championship Matches

For the WWE Divas Championship
Alicia Fox (c) vs. Melina

David S. – MELINA cause I despise Fox beyond description.

Josh B. – MELINA.

Jose M. – ALICIA FOX.

Frank C. – Hopefully, the big wrestling fan up in the sky gives MELINA the victory. I really hate Alicia Fox.

Matt O. – I’m going for David Stephen’s favorite…FOX!

Anthony V. – I think Alicia Fox kept the title warm for MELINA until Melina was healthy again. I expect a new champion after Sunday is over.

Doug L. – FOX via not now… not ever. I don’t care how much Melina smiles. I don’t care how happy she may make the Cheetoh-munchers with her flexibility and then some. She is injured every 3rd Thursday… do you really want to rest the entire Raw Diva division on her heel, shoulder, ankle, or knee again?

Mike T. – MELINA.

Consensus: MELINA 5; Alicia Fox 3.

For the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Kofi Kingston

David S. – ZIGGLER since there is no reason to take the belt back this quick.

Josh B. – DOLPH LUNDREN lol ZIGGLER.

Jose M. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Frank C. – ZIGGLER wins with the help of Vickie, plus Kofi’s knee may not be full strength after SD.

Matt O. – ZIGGLER.

Anthony V. – I am digging Kofi’s mean streak and his once-again found intensity, but I think Vickie will have another card (and I can bet she can hold a lot of cards) under her sleeve and DOLPH ZIGGLER will retain the title. Might as well give Ziggler a good run with it.

Doug L. – ZIGGLER via Kofi’s tremendously painful swerve into heeldom. This is going to be very traumatic for the kids, I’m sure. For 3 weeks we have been seeing the mean streak, this will initiate the turn and toss Kofi into an abyss that MVP knows all to well.

Mike T. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Consensus: DOLPH ZIGGLER 8; Kofi Kingston 0.

For the World Heavyweight Championship
Kane (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

David S. – KANE eh, it is just a guess. Taker will probably return to give Mysterio the win and screw me here but whatever.

Josh B. – KANE.

Jose M. – KANE.

Frank C. – KANE.

Matt O. – KANE.

Anthony V. – I think Rey Mysterio needs a break. He has been very impressive in his feuds with Punk and Swagger and his body must be tired. So I think KANE will win this match and stuff Rey in the coffin. I expect The Undertaker to be back and feud with Kane very soon.

Doug L. – REY via not needing an accessory to get in the way of fraternal warfare. Taker is gonna make an appearance… no sh!t… we don’t need a belt to get in the way of the carnage. I would much rather see a Rey program involving a strap than a Kane or Taker program involving one.

Mike T. – KANE.

Consensus: KANE 7; Rey Mysterio 1.

For the WWE World Championship
Stipulation: If anyone interferes, they will be suspended indefinitely. If Randy Orton loses, Orton will not get a rematch.
Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton

David S. – ORTON. I really thought I was going to pick Sheamus but changed my mind after a quick moment of whimsical thought. It`s freaking SummerSlam! This should main event and have the night end with the crazy over face holding the belt high in the air as a throwback to his original Title win and set the tone for the era of Orton.

Josh B. – RANDAL K. ORTON.

Jose M. – SHEAMUS.

Frank C. – ORTON.

Matt O. – SHEAMUS.

Anthony V. – Randy Orton is the most “over” wrestling the WWE has today. I originally thought putting the title on Orton would be best. Sheamus has not been a good champion this time around, but a guy like SHEAMUS needs another clean win to be a threat again. It is a tough match to call, but I will say The Celtic Warrior retains.

Doug L. – SHEAMUS via same logic involved in Rey-Kane. If HHH were returning, I would easily select Orton. Since he isn’t, I won’t. So what do you do after that? Night of Champions… Triple Threat? Four Way? I hear someone amassed in ginger hair groaning…

Mike T. – SHEAMUS.

Consensus: SHEAMUS 5; Randy Orton 3.
