12/30 WWE Results: East Rutherford, New Jersey

Wrestleview’s own Mike Tedesco sent this report in:

Just wanted to send you a quick report on the Smackdown House Show at the Izod Center from tonight. I’ll have the Superstars recap up soon.

I got in a little late so I missed the beginning of the Intercontinental Title shot Battle Royal. Kofi Kingston won it. Ezekiel Jackson had a good showing in the match. Drew McIntyre spent a lot of time outside, picking his spots. Pretty entertaining.

Beth Phoenix and Natalya def. Naomi and Layla when Beth hit the Glam Slam. This match went on forever and they lost the crowd halfway through. The little kid behind me (they were all around) said he could care less about the match and who wins. Even the kids could care less about WWE’s women division!

Nixon Rand (sp?) def. Chavo Guerrero with a spinning sidewalk slam. This was also another lackluster match. Vince McMahon’s muscle fetish is alive and well with Rand.

Drew McIntyre and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes def. JTG and Trent Barreta. OK match. McIntyre got no heat until he insulted some soldiers sitting ringside. Rhodes got some decent heat.

Rey Mysterio def. Alberto Del Rio with the 619. Del Rio got some nice heat talking about how New Jersey sucks. I had a hard time disagreeing with him… Del Rio also tore a kid’s sign up so Mysterio gave the kid his shirt. This was a good match.

After the short intermission Chris Masters beat Jack Swagger in like three seconds.

Dolph Ziggler def. Kofi Kingston to retain the Intercontinental Championship. They gave them some time and they produced a very decent match.

Edge def. CM Punk and Kane in a Cage Match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Nothing too big happened. It was a good match. CM Punk was absolutely hilarious in this match.

After the show me and my girlfriend got to take some pictures with referee extraordinaire Charles Robinson. He’s the man.

John Bertollo sent this report in:

Smackdown ring announcer Tony Chimel welcomes everyone to the show. Most of the upper deck was either tarped off or empty. A sad turnout for the Izod Center. Chimel announces that the main event will be a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship contested in a steel cage. The participants will be CM Punk, Kane, and the World Heavyweight Champion Edge!

First Match: Battle Royal with the winner facing Dolph Ziggler for Intercontinental Championship later in the night

12 Participants: Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, Chris Masters, Ezekiel Jackson, Percy Watson fron NXT Season 2, Trent Barretta, JTG, Mason Ryan, Chavo Guerrero, and Tyler Rekks.

The final 3 participants were Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, and Drew McIntyre. Kofi eliminates both men to win the match!

Kelly Kelly is introduced as the guest host and picks a kid from the crowd to be the guest bell ringer.

Second Match:
Natalya and Beth Phoenix def Layla and Naomi via Glam-Slam. Kelly Kelly also got involved in the finish.

Third Match:
Mason Ryan def Chavo Guerrero after a black hole slam type finisher.

Fourth Match:
Before the match, Cody does a great promo on the New Jersey crowd. He finds someone wearing a Cody Rhodes shirt and rips on him, along with New Jersey. Drew McIntyre kept saying Trent Barretta was New Jersey’s own. JTG finally took the mic and said Rhodes looks like Stewie from Family Guy.
Dashing Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre defeat JTG and Trent Barretta via Future Shock DDT.

Fifth Match:
Alberto Del Rio cuts a promo on how he is portrayed as such a bad guy on TV but he really is a nice guy. He also wants to know why there are so many 619 posters. Mysterio comes out. Del Rio takes a kid’s Mysterio poster and rips it up. Mysterio takes his shirt and gives it to the kid.
Rey Mysterio defeats Alberto Del Rio via 619

Sixth Match:
Chris Masters defeats Jack Swagger via a roll-up in a match that lasted about 30 seconds. Swagger went right into the ankle lock, Masters reversed it and rolled Swagger up for the quick pinfall. This match took place immediately after intermission, so half the crowd was not in their seat for this match.

Seventh Match: Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler defeats Kofi Kingston via Zig-Zag

Eighth Match: World Heavyweight Championship
Edge defeats CM Punk and Kane via escaping the top of the cage. About 5 minutes into the match, Kane chokeslammed Punk and the cage came apart. Referee Charles Robinson tried to put it back together, but was unsuccessful. For the rest of the match, he stood outside the ring and held the cage together on that side. All 3 men are on the top of the cage. Punk falls off first, then Edge knocks Kane off to escape from the cage.

Overall, it was an enjoyable show for a small crowd.
