Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE’s Elimination Chamber 2011. The show will be held in Oakland, California.

The card currently will have five matches. More than likely, those are the only matches we will predict.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings (if they outright defeat the Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

New: Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There are three championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be three points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right, we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

The Prizes will vary, but here is what the winners will receive.

The first place Student will receive a DVD. Don’t know what the DVD will be, but it will either be a WWE, TNA, or ROH DVD.

The second place Student will receive a T-Shirt. Again, don’t know what the shirt will look like but I am sure it is something one will cherish for being a runner-up in predicting wrestling matches.

The third place Student will win a coffee mug. As one knows, coffee keeps many teachers alert and awake. Consider this prize one step closer into feeling like a “teacher” (but if you are a teacher, then add this prize to your collection of coffee mugs and/or thermos).

Also, the will be a prize for the Student that finishes in Dead Last (aka the most losses throughout the year). For your luck, the “winner” will receive a Used Copy of the 2009 TNA Victory Road DVD. When used, it was only in a DVD player once, as it was declared “The Worst PPV of 2009”. And who could argue with such a great contest as Jenna Morasca vs. Sharmell?

The WrestleView Staff Standings

After the first round of our predictions, the reigning champion Dave Stephens had a successful predictions score of 4-3. However, two men are providing Stephens with some early competition. Thanks to predicting Jeff Hardy as the new TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Mike Tedesco is the currently in the second position. However, it is a Canadian that leads the standings, as Greg McNeish was almost perfect.

1) Greg McNeish (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………..6-1 (6-1)
2) Mike Tedesco (WWE Smackdown and WWE Superstar Recaps)……….5-2 (5-2)
3) Dave Stephens (Raw Recaps/That’s a Wrap/Teachers Lounge)……….4-3 (4-3)*
4) Josh Boutwell (TNA Impact Recaps/Viva La Raza)……………………………4-3 (4-3)
5) Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds)…………………………………………4-3 (4-3)
6) Ryan Rivera (ROH on HDNet Recaps)…………………………………………………4-3 (4-3)
7) Nicholas Gray (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………….4-3 (4-3)
8) Evan O’Brien (WV International Desk)………………………………………………..4-3 (4-3)
9) WrestleView Students (The Readers of the article)……………………………..4-3 (4-3)
10) Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings/The Eye Gouge)………………………….3-4 (3-4)
11) Darraugh O’Connor (WV International Desk)……………………………………..3-4 (3-4)
12) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V/Teacher’s Lounge)……………….2-5 (2-5)
13) Clinton Bowman (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………2-5 (2-5)

Darraugh O’Connor will provide predictions later. There is a time difference from Ireland to the home office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You will see his under the comments at the end of the column.

* Dave Stephens now wants a star next to his standing to remind everyone that he is the reigning Dean of WrestleView. Ugh, now he is reaching “diva” demands.

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct (out of 2)

2: Mike Tedesco
1: Nicholas Gray and Greg McNeish
0: Dave Stephens; Josh Boutwell; Matt O’Brien; Ryan Rivera; Evan O’Brien; Jose Marrero; Darraugh O’Connor; Anthony Valvo; and Clinton Bowman.

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

Ken Konarzewski is the current Student of the Week. Konarzewski will remain the Student of the Week until someone defeats his PPV record during the Elimination Chamber.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

1) Brandon Ewing………………………………5-2 (5-2) (1)
2) Steven Horsecroft…………………………..5-2 (5-2) (1)
3) Jason Namako……………………………….5-2 (5-2) (1)
4) Jesse Grams……………………………………5-2 (5-2) (1)
5) Travis Thomas…………………………………5-2 (5-2) (1)
6) Ken Konarzewski…………………………..5-2 (5-2) (0)
7) Paul Meade……………………………………5-2 (5-2) (0)
8) Rick Jackson……………………………………5-2 (5-2) (0)
9) Michael Fox……………………………………5-2 (5-2) (0)
10) Jordan Benterman………………………….5-2 (5-2) (0)

I will let the ones that scores the Worst know via e-mail. I don’t want to embarrass the students.

Also to those that have participated last week, keep it up. This by all means is nowhere close to being over! Don’t give up!

Predictions for WWE’s Elimination Chamber 2011

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Singles Match (non-title)
Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston

Dave S. – Kofi has the athletic dexterity advantage in this match, but it’s not going to make a difference. Far too many people get caught up in ALBERTO DEL RIO’s cockiness and forget his actual skill. The guy fought Mirko “Cro Crop” Filopovic for crying out loud, WITH A MASK ON. But… he lost. Not tonight thought!

Greg M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Mike T. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Josh B. – DEL RIO.

Matt O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Ryan R. – DEL RIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOO!

Nicholas G. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Evan O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Jose M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO but you already knew that.

Darraugh O. – N/A

Anthony V. – There is really nothing much to discuss on this contest. This is a tune-up for ALBERTO DEL RIO as he gets a victory before his World Title Match at WrestleMania XXVII.

Clinton B. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Ken K. – KOFI KINGSTON — Look for Kofi Kingston to be getting a win. I don’t see the win being very clean just to keep Del Rio over. I’m guessing some type of interference (maybe Christian or Rey or Edge).

CONSENSUS: ALBERTO DEL RIO 11-1. The WrestleView Faculty all went for Alberto Del Rio to earn a big win as his destiny to the World Championship continues. Only Student of the Week Ken Konarzewski chose a different route, thinking that Kingston may win via the help from someone in the back.

Elimination Chamber Match

Winner goes on to face the WWE World Champion at WrestleMania

R-Truth vs. John Morrison vs. Randy Orton vs. CM Punk vs. King Sheamus vs. John Cena

Dave S. – I didn’t become the reigning Dean of WrestleView by picking against JOHN CENA, and I’m not going to stop now.

Greg M. – JOHN CENA.

Mike T. – JOHN CENA.

Josh B. – CENA.

Matt O. – JOHN CENA.

Ryan R. – Stupid Fruity Pebble JOHN CENA.

Nicholas G. – JOHN CENA.

Evan O. – JOHN CENA.

Jose M. – JOHN CENA although I do want to point out that I wouldn’t be surprised if somehow R Truth didn’t make his way inside the chamber.

Darraugh O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – Trust me, R-Truth won’t win. Orton is feuding with Punk, so they are out. Morrison will have at least one move that will wow the crowd and may surprise. Sheamus is just there, I don’t think he wins. The best bet is JOHN CENA, as like I said on The Teacher’s Lounge I think it will be Miz vs. Cena with Rock as some special enforcer.

Clinton B. – JOHN CENA.

Ken K. – JOHN CENA — Sadly I have to be a homer here. You can knock out the two heels, R Truth, and Randy Orton, which leaves JoMo and Cena. Both can be a formidable opponent for Miz, but to be honest, when you have your top guy out of the picture for so long, you need to get him back in, so I’m going to pick John Cena.

CONSENSUS: JOHN CENA gets all 12 votes. Though the Raw side of the Chamber match looks great on paper, we all agreed on the winner and he will either face The Miz or Jerry Lawler for the WWE World Championship (more on who wins the title later).

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella (c’s) vs. The Corre (Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel)

Dave S. – Honest to God, I didn’t even realize that SANTINO & KOZLOV were the Champions.

Greg M. – KOZLOV AND MARELLA.

Mike T. – SLATER AND GABRIEL

Josh B. – SLATER AND GABRIEL.

Matt O. – SLATER AND GABRIEL.

Ryan R. – SANTINO AND KOZLOV.

Nicholas G. – SLATER AND GABRIEL.

Evan O. – SANTINO AND KOZLOV.

Jose M. – SANTINO and KOSLOV the past few weeks I’ve heard a lot of noise about some sort of Nexus vs Corre match at Wrestlemania. With plans changing all the time it wouldn’t surprise me to see the tag titles get defended in some sort of triple threat match involving Nexus and Corre.

Darraugh O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – I think this is the only match that is not predictable. The last time these two teams wrestled on a PPV it was in TLC and Kozlov and Santino won via DQ. I feel that Ezekiel Jackson is going to make a splash in this match. I am going to predict SLATER AND GABRIEL as the new Tag Champions.

Clinton B. – SLATER AND GABRIEL.

Ken K. – SLATER/GABRIEL — How long can Koztino keep the titles for? They actually won the titles from Slater/Gabriel in October. Here’s the hard question. What can WWE do to keep Koztino and around. They get a good pop wherever they go, but in the end they will have to lose the titles. Now Friday night they basically won cleanly after a powerful cobra, so I’m going to stick with my gut and say they’re dropping the titles to Health Slater/Justin Gabriel.

CONSENSUS: JUSTIN GABRIEL AND HEATH SLATER 7-5. The card appeared to be very predictable until the WWE threw this match in our faces. The 2010 Champion (Stephens) and the 2011 leader (McNeish) state that the champs retain. However, most of the members predict that the Koztino tag team championship has run its course. Look for the Corre to score some gold tonight (or is it copper).

Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Edge (c) vs. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Wade Barrett vs. ????

(We will not predict who the mystery opponent will be and if the mystery wins, then we will throw the match out.)

Dave S. – I’ve no idea why you would take the Title off of EDGE. Maybe Mysterio? The WWE has been pulling Title switches the month before ‘mania the past couple years, so who knows?

Greg M. – EDGE.

Mike T. – EDGE.

Josh B. – EDGE.

Matt O. – EDGE.

Ryan R. – EDGE.

Nicholas G. – EDGE.

Evan O. – EDGE.

Jose M. – EDGE gets the win and assuming that somehow Dolph doesn’t make his way back into this match I am going to say that the mystery entrant winds up being Christian who somehow gets involved in the Edge vs. Del Rio main event angle at WrestleMania.

Darraugh O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – I am actually going to miss Ziggler in this equation. Actually, I won’t be surprised if Dolph is in the Raw Chamber match. However, this is Smackdown’s Chamber and I don’t see anyone winning other than Edge or Mysterio. Since Mysterio has a potential feud with Cody Rhodes coming up, I only see EDGE retaining his championship over the other five opponents.

Clinton B. – EDGE.

Ken K. – REY MISTERIO JR. — Somebody else brought up a good thought that Christian may be the missing person, which would even it to 3/3 for heels/faces, and make for pretty interesting back and forth match. I don’t see Drew or Kane winning. With me picking Slater/Gabriel, what would make Corre more powerful than the #1 contendership, but alas I don’t see a good Barrett/Del Rio program. That leaves Edge and Misterio. In the end, I think Edge’s time at the top has come to the end. With the return of Christian, they may have him win one last tag titles, but that just proves for me to have Slater/Gabriel have the titles at that time.

CONSENSUS: EDGE gets 11 votes, Mysterio gets 1 vote. Once again, our Student of the Week goes a different route and selected Mysterio as the winner. However, with WrestleMania just 42 days away many of us believe that Edge will be holding the big gold belt heading into a match with Alberto Del Rio.

Singles Match for the WWE World Championship

The Miz (c) vs. Jerry “The King” Lawler

Dave S. – I’d love to see Lawler win, just for the awesomeness, but I doubt it. THE MIZ.

Greg M. – JERRY LAWLER.

Mike T. – THE MIZ.

Josh B. – THE MIZ.

Matt O. – THE MIZ.

Ryan R. – THE MIZ.

Nicholas G. – JERRY LAWLER.

Evan O. – THE MIZ.

Jose M. – THE MIZ.

Darraugh O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – THE MIZ wins, hands down. I do like Lawler and I wish him well (and maybe a spin-off show where he punches random people/objects), I just think it would be bad for The Miz if he lost. Besides, I want Miz vs. Cena with Rock as special referee or enforcer at WrestleMania.

Clinton B. – JERRY LAWLER.

Ken K. – THE MIZ — Although I do enjoy the storyline of King winning and losing it the next night, I just don’t really see it happening. I really want to pick it, but in the end I see The Miz winning the belt.

CONSENSUS: THE MIZ 9-3. Look, we are all fans of “The Lawler Punch”, but the majority of the faculty predicts an “awesome” victory for the champion. The only ones who picked Lawler happen to all share a particular show on The WrestleView Radio Network.
