Predictions: WWE Capitol Punishment 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Capitol Punishment PPV Edition
June 19, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE’s Capitol Punishment PPV. The show will be held in Washington, DC.

The card currently will have seven matches. As of now, I am not expecting to make any changes.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There are four championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be four points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

There is a new member of the WrestleView staff that I have added to the standings. His name is Andrew Hayman and he is our WWE Superstars recapper. He has been participating as a student throughout the season and his totals are calculated.

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

This weekend, our Students of the Week will be Jason Namako and Tim Kaminski. They both earned this standing in part to the 8-0 record each posted for TNA’s Slammiversary last week.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing.

There are so many still in contention, so if you would like to know your standing send me an e-mail and I will be more than happy to let you know where you stand.

The Worst Student so far is 37-29.

Also to those that have participated in all PPVs, keep it up. This by all means is nowhere close to being over! Don’t give up!

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for WWE’s Capitol Punishment

Jose M. – CM PUNK.

Nick G. – REY MYSTERIO.

Dave S. – CM PUNK.

Josh B. – PUNK.

Ryan R. – PUNK.

Greg W. – REY MYSTERIO.

Mike T. – CM PUNK.

Greg M. – CM PUNK.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Anthony V. – CM PUNK. I am thinking they will keep this storyline going for a few more months (maybe until SummerSlam), so I am going to say Punk wins today.

Evan O. – CM PUNK.

Matt O. – CM PUNK.

Andrew H. – REY MYSTERIO.

Clinton B. – CM PUNK.

Jason N. – CM PUNK.

Tim K. – CM PUNK.

CONSENSUS: CM PUNK. The WrestleView staff believes that now is the time for CM Punk to get that monkey off his back when it comes to the lack of winning on Pay-Per-Views. Expect CM Punk to be victorious tonight.

CM PUNK 13; Rey Mysterio 3.

Singles Match
Alberto Del Rio vs. The Big Show

Jose M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Nick G. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Dave S. – THE BIG SHOW.

Josh B. – SHOW.

Ryan R. – BIG SHOW.

Greg W. – THE BIG SHOW.

Mike T. – THE BIG SHOW.

Greg M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Darragh O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Anthony V. – ALBERTO DEL RIO. I think the Big Show is totally going to slaughter Del Rio, however when it is time to break I think Show ignores the ref. Therefore, look for Del Rio via DQ.

Evan O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Matt O. – DEL RIO. I can see him getting a DQ win. I just don’t see Show getting the win this time.

Andrew H. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Clinton B. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Jason N. – THE BIG SHOW.

Tim K. – ALBERTO.

CONSENSUS: DEL RIO. Whether it be by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification the staff predicts that Del Rio will win this match over The Big Show.

ALBERTO DEL RIO 10; Big Show 6.

Singles Match
Alex Riley vs. The Miz

Jose M. – THE MIZ.

Nick G. – THE MIZ.

Dave S. – THE MIZ.

Josh B. – MIZ.

Ryan R. – MIZ.

Greg W. – ALEX RILEY.

Mike T. – THE MIZ.

Greg M. – THE MIZ.

Darragh O. – THE MIZ.

Anthony V. – THE MIZ. It would be amazing if Riley won, but hometown guys give a big effort but come short. Look for a huge pop for Alex Riley in what could be a solid match.

Evan O. – THE MIZ.

Matt O. – MIZ in what could be the best match of the night.

Andrew H. – ALEX RILEY.

Clinton B. – THE MIZ.

Jason N. – THE MIZ.

Tim K. – MIZ.

CONSENSUS: THE MIZ. Even though Alex Riley won the previous battles on RAW, the staff predicts that The Miz will go back to his awesome ways and get a victory over his newest rival.

THE MIZ 14; Alex Riley 2.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Jose M. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Nick G. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Dave S. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Josh B. – KOFI.

Ryan R. – ZIGGLER.

Greg W. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Mike T. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Greg M. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Darragh O. – ZIGGLER.

Anthony V. – DOLPH ZIGGLER. It’s time to drop the title. Kofi is just not showing much flash. Ziggler can only be held down for so long, and I think we can have some fun feuds over the summer if Ziggler is champ.

Evan O. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Matt O. – DOLPH!

Andrew H. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Clinton B. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Jason N. – KOFI KINGSTON.

Tim K. – KOFI.

CONSENSUS: KINGSTON. In the closest set of predictions on this card, the slight majority went with the champion. However, do not be surprised if Ziggler comes out with the title in a rivalry renewed.

Kofi Kingston 9; Dolph Ziggler 7

Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Wade Barrett (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Jose M. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Nick G. – WADE BARRETT.

Dave S. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Josh B. – ZEKE.

Ryan R. – JACKSON.

Greg W. – WADE BARRETT.

Mike T. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Greg M. – WADE BARRETT.

Darragh O. – BARRETT.

Anthony V. – EZEKIEL JACKSON. Big Zeke wins this because Barrett walks out of the ring with belt in hand. So though I think Jackson wins, Barrett keeps the title.

Evan O. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Matt O. – JACKSON.

Andrew H. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Clinton B. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Jason N. – WADE BARRETT.

Tim K. – ZEKE.

CONSENSUS: JACKSON. The WWE have been teasing the title change for weeks right now. Without Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, is Wade Barrett vulnerable? The majority of the staff think so. Expect a new Intercontinental Champion when the night is over.

EZEKIEL JACKSON 11; Wade Barrett 5.

Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs. Christian

Jose M. – CHRISTIAN.

Nick G. – RANDY ORTON.

Ryan R. – ORTON.

Greg W. – RANDY ORTON.

Mike T. – CHRISTIAN.

Greg M. – RANDY ORTON.

Darragh O. – ORTON.

Anthony V. – RANDY ORTON. I think Christian as the heel that whines is terrific. Besides, it won’t hurt, but help if Christian loses. Next month is Money in the Bank, so I am thinking Christian will win that case and wait for his moment.

Evan O. – RANDY ORTON.

Matt O. – CHRISTIAN. He has to, right? Right?

Andrew H. – RANDY ORTON.

Clinton B. – RANDY ORTON.

Jason N. – CHRISTIAN.

Tim K. – CHRISTIAN.

CONSENSUS: ORTON. Orton’s is cleared to compete in this match, which is a relief for the company. Most of the WrestleView staff believe that Orton will retain the championship.

RANDY ORTON 11; Christian 5.

John Cena (c) vs. R-Truth

Jose M. – R-TRUTH.

Nick G. – JOHN CENA.

Ryan R. – CENA.

Greg W. – JOHN CENA.

Mike T. – JOHN CENA.

Greg M. – JOHN CENA.

Darragh O. – CENA.

Anthony V. – JOHN CENA. I don’t think Cena will lose the title anytime soon, especially to R-Truth.

Evan O. – JOHN CENA.

Matt O. – JOHNATHAN CENA.

Andrew H. – R-TRUTH via DQ or countout.

Clinton B. – JOHN CENA.

Jason N. – JOHN CENA.

Tim K. – CENA.

CONSENSUS: CENA. Though a couple members of the WrestleView staff chose The Truth, Cena will not be setting him free. Most predict Cena retains as we head to the next weeks of programming.

JOHN CENA 14; R-Truth 2.
