Edge on the events leading up to his retirement

According to a report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Adam “Edge” Copeland revealed the time line of events from last year around Wrestlemania 27 to his decision to retire. Copeland noted that his neck had been bothering him and that the plan was for him to retain at Wrestlemania, drop the title to Alberto Del Rio in a blow-off match and then take several months off. However, Copeland was told on the Monday morning after Wrestlemania that his career was over based on the results of an MRI. He noted that the doctor told him he had the “worst looking neck X-ray of any athlete still competing” and was told he needed to stop immediately. Copeland said he couldn’t pinpoint an exact moment where the problems started and simply said it was a “gradual process” of it getting worse since his original injury in 2003.
