Longtime WWE announcer Josh Mathews was released by the company over the last 24 hours according to a report by Mike Johnson. Mathews had been with WWE as an announcer since right after the first season of WWE Tough Enough, which Mathews took part in, ended in 2001.

Mathews was mostly used a backstage interviewer, but was used on commentary for Smackdown, ECW on SyFy, NXT, Superstars, Velocity and guest spots on RAW during his tenure with the company. Mathews recently hosted the pre and post-game shows for the WWE Network prior to RAW, Smackdown and all PPVs. WWE has removed Mathews’ profile from WWE.com and added it to their Alumni section earlier today, but have yet to confirm his release from the company as of Wednesday afternoon.
